Just that really.. Struggling to keep much down and currently about 8 weeks, been prescribed anti sickness tablets, but they're not helping.

Tried ginger biscuits/toast/crackers and so on.

Help! Sad

And plain cream crackers. Eat one before you get out of bed in the morning - keep one by your bed. Helps with the first thing vom.

I lived on ice pops, sugary tea and fizzy sweets. I remember sitting at a wedding reception around 8 weeks scoffing fizzy cola bottles from my handbag! Hope it passes soon.

Ranitidine worked wonders for my wife.

Also ice cream and milkshakes (or the ultimate, a milkshake made from ice cream) seemed to work as a neutraliser

When I had hyperemesis with my son I swore I'd deck the next person who mentioned ginger...

A few things :

If you're seriously dehydrated seek attention - you may need a drip
Go back to your doc. Insist on trying different meds. Do not be fobbed off with them saying there's nothing they can give you.
Rest as much as you can
Full sugar coke. Cold. Get a teaspoon and drink a teaspoon of it every couple of mins until you've had a pint of it.
I also found apples very very thinly sliced manageable

There's a great hyperemesis thread on the pregnancy board - very supportive.

It is shit Flowers I'm ten months postpartum and still struggling with smells and nausea.

The only thing that cured mine was giving birth. Terrible sickness all the way through each pregnancy, HG and hospital admission + drip etc. None of the prescribed medication worked for me, nor the travel sickness bands or anything else. The drip and anti-sickness IV rehydrated me but didn't cure the sickness. I often kept a lightweight scarf to hand to cover my mouth and breathe through when feeling nauseous on the tube etc and I'm sure that saved me from public vomiting a fair few times. I hope you find something that helps you.

Thank you everyone! Really appreciate all your replies, and it's great to have some ideas about what works.

Lemonade is a life saver at the moment, but frustrating because even water is making me feel sick, so not sure I can live off lemonade for the next few weeks. Got some dry cereal with me today, thought it might be good to snack on so I'll see how that goes.

As PPs have mentioned, travel bands worked for me sometimes in both pregnancies but only if positioned carefully and I needed to have put them on before the nausea hit me or they did nothing!

I was 'lucky' with DD1 that it was mostly evening sickness. I also found it was mainly strong smells that made it worse so tried to eliminate them where possible- eg fabric softener, toilet discs etc. Although 4 years on I still can't smell 'yellow' fabric softener without feeling ill.

With DD2 I had nausea and sickness almost constantly until about 20 weeks . I found the only things that helped were extra strong mints and strawberry nesquik.

Also, I found hunger made me feel even worse so tried to eat little and often. Not easy I know when you feel awful though.

Flowers for you, hope you are soon feeling better!

The only thing that completely stopped mine was labour.
Eating little and often helps, also avoid smells if possible, I had to stop wearing make up as that set me off and I switched to baking soda toothpaste as mint made me gag.

blueturtle6 · 24/08/2016 09:19

Also travelling on the bus was a problem.

Jayfee · 24/08/2016 17:30

I couldn't bear the smell of tea or coffee and couldn't cook either. Hope yours ends soon.

thatsforsure · 24/08/2016 17:36

really bad sickness for all 3 kids - only thing that gave me respite was drinking marmite dissolved in hot water - I have no idea why i tried it as i had never drunk it before (and will never drink it again) but it was magic!

Witchend · 24/08/2016 17:40

The best remedy for me was giving birth. I recovered each time about 2 hours afterwards.

The best I found was to eat when I wanted, what I wanted. Which in my case was not a lot.
Good:
Coke (bubbles seemed to help)
Salty things
Plain biscuits
Ice cubes
Sucking sweets

Bad:
Ginger (burns on the way up)
Milk (curdles)
Acidic things like orange juice
Bread (that's me though)
Chocolate (even the smell got me retching)

xxxeasterbunnyxxx · 24/08/2016 17:42

I had the worst HG and the only thing that worked was vitamin b6. It literally cured it with my second pregnancy.

Corabell · 24/08/2016 17:57

Take the full dose of cyclizine- your GP is talking pish "one should do it" indeed.

I found stemitil ( prochloroperzine - I think!!) significantly cut the naseau while cyclizine reduced the vomiting. I went on to need ondansatron for my entire pregnancy because my sickness was so severe.

If you are already at the stage of needing medication You might as well shove ginger up your arse for all the good it does you!
