summerskittles91 · 23/08/2016 10:45

Just that really.. Struggling to keep much down and currently about 8 weeks, been prescribed anti sickness tablets, but they're not helping.

Tried ginger biscuits/toast/crackers and so on.

Help! Sad

I really sympathise, it's awful isn't it? My morning sickness was so horrible for DD2 that my husband got the snip as soon as she was born! I found white bread and flat coke offered some relief. The best thing though was sleep - this was the only time I didn't feel sick. Are you able to work from home at all? If so, maybe you could fit in some cat naps whenever you're feeling at your worst. This is what I did. And tell your boss how bad you're feeling so they'll cut you some slack. Morning sickness can be completely debilitating.

NeedACleverNN · 23/08/2016 11:25

Try taking it 3 times a day. If it doesn't work go back to the doctor and try something else

I went off tea with both of my pregnancies. If I tried to drink it, I felt sick. Maybe try ditching the tea a couple of days and see if that helps

Dexterjamesmummy · 23/08/2016 11:30

I ate bags and bags of salt and vinegar Squares! My sickness never went away the whole pregnancy, it's awful. I also ate strawberries, they didn't stop me feeling sick but when they come back up they taste the same as when they went down!

WellErrr · 23/08/2016 11:38

Doctor prescribed cyclizine but It really hasn't done anything. The recommended dose is 3 a day but she said 1 should sort it. So not sure whether I should be taking more?

Cyclizine just might not suit you. There are other things they can give. Promethazine is often prescribed first, like cyclizine, and worked really well for me.

There are other meds too - go back to the GP. You don't have to suffer this Flowers

KayTee87 · 23/08/2016 11:40

Sipping freezing cold Diet Coke and eating ready salted crisps.
I feel for you, I had my baby 3 weeks ago and remember the first 14 weeks of pregnancy very clearly, the sickness was horrible.

brambly · 23/08/2016 11:40

About all I could stomach was ice lollies and salt and vinegar crisps.

Hope you're feeling in better shape soon. Flowers

PeppaAteMySoul · 23/08/2016 11:40

I'm still having horrific sickness at 27 weeks so I share your pain Flowers. What has helped me is small sips of water, eating much smaller more frequent meals, sucking on mints and remembering it will all be over soon!

KayTee87 · 23/08/2016 11:41

And as a pp said sleep as much as possible, if you're anything like me you will struggle with sleeping towards the end so try to make the most of it just now Flowers

insan1tyscartching · 23/08/2016 11:42

I've had HG and awful morning sickness in other pregnancies. For me it was finding anything I could eat and sticking to it no matter how unhealthy. Strong flavours seemed better than bland foods so I lived on pickled onion crisps at one point and sweets helped too so with another I ate my body weight in midget gems.
It sounds like the boiled sweets might be helping so eat as many as you need and don't worry about getting the healthy diet for now you need to do what it takes to get through IME.

flumpybear · 23/08/2016 11:43

I ate sweets!! Refreshers and chew it's were the best!!

wigglesrock · 23/08/2016 11:45

Fanta orange
Anything with nuts especially Snicker bars
Noodles, noodles and more noodles

They were the only things I could keep down over all three of my pregnancies. Anything with fruit - desserts, sauces, actual fruit made me sicker as did anything milky - tea and toast was just awful - even now and my dd3 is 5 the sight of tea and toast makes me queasy. I stopped taking tea completely during my 3rd pregnancy and never really went back to it.

peneleope82 · 23/08/2016 11:45

I took 3 a day of the cyclizine - if I missed a dose I felt awful so I would try increasing.

kimann · 23/08/2016 11:49

What about metacloprimide? I was prescribed this to take alongside the cyclizine. And if nothing else works - you could ask for odensetron (that is the last thing they'll give you as its really strong stuff) there is another one but that made me really sleepy - forgot the name. Good luck - hang in there! X

MuffinTip · 23/08/2016 11:50

If I were you I would up the dose of cyclizine to 3 times a day. I took it 3 times a day throughout both my pregnancies and it was the only thing that kept me going. Unfortunately I did also have a number of hospital admissions for IV fluids and anti emetics so it definitely wasn't a miracle cure. It certainly kept me from becoming severely ill though. So sorry you are suffering

hellsbellsmelons · 23/08/2016 12:04

Well it seems tea won't work for you.
Sugary tea and orange juice ice lollies got me through the first 24 weeks.
They were the only things I could keep down.
I bought ice lolly molds and made my own pure OJ lollies.
I lost loads of weight during the first 5 months.
But I was fine and so was my DD.
It's really horrible and I hope it stops for you soon.

summerskittles91 · 23/08/2016 12:33

Going to up the dose I think and see how that goes.

I thought maybe my multivitamins were causing it, taking the sanatogen mum to be ones, but I didn't take them for 3 days and the sickness was still there.

Going to keep a stock of boiled sweets for sure. I might try cutting out tea - or maybe adding sugar to it. I don't normally mind it without sugar but it has been tasting horrendous.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

I empathise with you. I had HG for all 3 of my pregnancies and it was an awful time. The meds I was prescribed didn't work for me. I was told to double up on them but was still really sick. The only help was getting family members to support at home and with the children. I kept going into hospital when my ketones were too high (urine test at hospital identified this) to be hydrated via a IV drip. I was averaging 3 hospital visits a weeks just to keep hydrated. Still tried to eat but kept bringing everything up. Please monitor your situation and keep going to your GP for support and/or local hospital. Hugs. Flowers

MLGs · 23/08/2016 17:41

Anything you can stomach to eat. If you feel you fancy it, eat it (unless it might give you food poisoning etc)

Rest. Rest is the only thing that properly heloed in my opinion. If you have to work then obviously this is hard but rest when you can. Anything that your dp (if you have one) can do for you to give you more rest needs to be done.

Jayfee · 23/08/2016 17:49

I can't give remedies but mine stopped at 14 weeks. I was told it was a sign of a healthy pregnancy and had it for the first 2 children. My third pregnancy was relatively sickness free and the baby was not growing properly and I lost it. So, hang on in there and look forward to the joy of holding your new baby.

pointythings · 23/08/2016 18:03

I couldn't stand tea in pregnancy. It was so bad I have not touched the stuff again since, and my DDs are now 13 and 15 - I only drink herbal stuff now. The smell alone used to make me heave.

mirime · 23/08/2016 18:15

I found it almost impossible to drink (and had a rather rude unhelpful GP), but fortunately often could manage melon and oranges - I'm convinced they saved me from dehydration. Also timing - I had a better chance of keeping food down if I ate then didn't move around for a couple of hours.

And rest as much as you can.

I started feeling sick the day I did the test and it escalated from there and carried on past 20 weeks. I suspect I had HG, but wasn't diagnosed due to my bloody awful GP.

WoburnSands · 23/08/2016 18:16

Ginger biscuits - ginger anything tbh is a good panacea.

Onprozacandmyhighhorse · 23/08/2016 18:26

Another vote for Seabands and flat coke. The bands really brought it down from constant vomiting to manageable nausea. I really feel for you. It's a horrible feeling. Flowers

WeirdButTrue · 23/08/2016 18:30

No offence to those who mention ginger, but for ladies with HG the reality is it doesn't help at all - with both my pregnancies I wanted to lamp anyone that said it & if I'd been able to actually lift my head let alone move hell might have broken loose Grin

I feel for you OP, I think as others have said up your dose and if that fails try a different type. Being in hospital for HG is miserable. I was lucky in so much as my sickness only lasted til approx wk 24, and the drugs also enabled me to function quite well I.e only being sick 3-4 times per day instead of upwards of 20. Up to wk 24 I survived on Muller corners with DD and then plain Greek yoghurt & plain jacket spuds with DS. Good luck finding what works for you Flowers oh and a group here on MN was also a lifesaver to chat with ladies in the same boat, I forget what section it was under but recommend searching for it

Fourfifthsof · 23/08/2016 18:32

Salted pop chips, bread and butter (french bread) and orange calippos.

Hope you are soon feeling better!
