To think female athletes don't need to be kissed by those presenting them with their medals?

Watching some of the women's medal ceremonies I wonder if any of them enjoy beong kissed by the (old) men handing over their medals?
All of the women on the podium looked really awkward and it was obviously done out of politeness (on their part).
Years and years of hard work and that's their reward? Yuck!

Actually I wouldn't kiss any of the royals. Even I have my limits.

SkydivingFerret · 21/08/2016 17:08

There's no limit to the ridiculous things mners will get offended by is there? Even managed to throw in a few buzzwords like "consent" and "gendered" along the way

lljkk · 21/08/2016 17:14

Vive La Différence!

NameChange30 · 21/08/2016 17:16

Skydiving If you think that "consent" and "gendered" are just meaningless buzzwords, I pity you. And I hope you never get raped or subjected to sexism.

I'm offended by sexism all the time SkydivingFerret, it's just that this particular issue doesn't strike me as such. But other women may disagree, and that's fine by me.

Now if you want to talk about the commentary of female athletes at Rio 2016...

What do you have to say about that?

SkydivingFerret · 21/08/2016 18:24

I haven't been paying much attention to the commentary so it would be wrong of me to comment.

And I don't think they're meaningless buzzwords as such except used in a context like this devalues them. Consent for a polite kiss on each cheek? I've greeted a lot of distant family this weekend with a polite kiss and definitely didn't seek consent.

For you to even equate this with rape or sexual assault is quite offensive really

SkydivingFerret · 21/08/2016 18:25

Oops just saw you posted a link...I don't have time now but will certainly have a look later

WankingZooMonkeyyyy · 21/08/2016 18:26

Leave the bastard

MistressoftheYoniverse · 21/08/2016 18:43

WZM you bad...Grin

I would kiss the queen ..she's a sweet lovely older lady I'd give her a squeeze too Wink

The words 'consent' and ''gendered' can actually be buzz words if used out of context and randomly to make people second guess their opinion or back off...

WardrobeMalfunction · 21/08/2016 19:50

While having to endure kisses may not be the most severe form of sexism experienced by Olympic athletes (or women in general), it is part of the spectrum of sexism, and deserves to be called out as such. Just because it is thoughtless and everyday doesn't mean it shouldn't be queried.

And consent is not a buzzword. Any physical contact requires my consent. You don't get to tell me what I can and can't consent to. That's exactly the opposite of how consent works Hmm

originalmavis · 21/08/2016 20:13

I'd hug them all. I'm quite huggy too.

Shizzlestix · 21/08/2016 20:24

I loathe being touched by strangers, but having lived abroad, the whole kissing thing just became normal, long winded if you're meeting a group of mates!

limitedperiodonly · 21/08/2016 20:43

That's very interesting Dizzy but I'm not sure what the thingy is made from. Can you put it in the recycling? I wouldn't. I'd keep it. But I keep all kinds of crap because I'm a hoarder.

limitedperiodonly · 21/08/2016 20:47

It is very clever. It says Rio and is better than the Lisa Simpson giving a blow job logo of London 2012.
