As the title says really, 42 weeks pregnant now, been being induced for what feels like forever. Hospital are short staffed, delivery suite is rammed so I've been shoved in a side room and told they'll do nothing more until tomorrow.

Really not happy about this. I have a 2.8 year old who I'm missing terribly, I'm concerned about the increased risk of something bad happening when you go over 42 weeks and the whole thing is making me anxious!

It's ridiculous!!

I had an induction with dd1 and it took 3 attempts and 5 days. Was horrible as i was a bit naive and each time thought it was going to happen straight away. DD2 i had a c section and it was fine, recovery time is longer but u are still in pain after giving birth naturally anyway so in my opinion neither are worse, just different. Hope something happens soon!

WhatTheDickensian · 20/08/2016 09:36

I have been in your position twice. The second time I just walked out of the hospital and used my phone map to force myself to do a 2km walk. A proper walk, not a stroll through corridors. When I started walking I had been given two pressurise over 48 hours with tightening shut no contraction. By the end of the 2km fast walk I was in agony. DS was born 40 mins after I returned.

Good luck OP. I can remember the frustration so clearly.

MrsKoala · 20/08/2016 09:45

Poor you. With my first he was almost 43wks as I was 42wks on the Friday, so because of it being a busy sept weekend they induced me on the Monday at 42+3 and then it took another 3 days for the induction and labour.

I had been getting contractions every night for 8 days prior, but always stopping dead after 5 hours at exactly 3 mins apart. We were half way to the hospital 3 bloody times.

It was so exhausting and frustrating. Good luck. Flowers

AGruffaloCrumble · 20/08/2016 09:54

I waited in hospital for three days for my induction. Unfortunately they have to prioritise ladies in labour already. If it makes you feel better once they broke my waters I had an hour long labour!

witsender · 20/08/2016 09:58

Just remember that 42 wks is an estimate, and not all pregnancies last that long either

Welshrainbow · 20/08/2016 10:25

Ugh you have my absolute sympathy OP and I hope you are in labour by now. I was induced at 39 weeks due to resistance in cord and 12 instances of no movement, had three lots of 24 hour peasant and refused fourth, registrar recommended a section so next morning was nil by mouth but consultant came in at 1 in afternoon and refused to sign off a section, it was weekend so she said she's keep us waiting till Monday for a second opinion said she'd break waters instead (1cm dilated) baby not even engaged! 9 hours in a drip and baby's heart rate was over 200 one minute down at 60 the next so they out clip on his head (still only 1cm dilated) result was emergency section that a three year old could have predicted. Baby never would have come on his own he was lying almost diagonal!
If you want it kick up enough fuss that they give you a c section, sometimes no amount of induction works. Good luck.

ricecrispies16 · 20/08/2016 10:37

I'll see what happens when they've broken my waters, if they can. Currently laying on a bed in delivery doing nothing.

Feeling so guilty to my little one at home :(

Oh, been there, three rounds of induction at 42 weeks, after each night of Prostin Pains everything stopped in the morning, then it was hanging around the hospital all day wondering if the consultant would put in an appearance... Finally saw him on day 3, he gave me the choice of going home for the weekend and starting again on Monday or moving to CS, by this point I was fairly convinced Ds was never coming out so went for option B .

3 years later, faced with the same performance for no2, consultant recommended going straight to CS. I suggested installing a zip, I think he'd heard that joke Blush

Hang on in there and definitely be assertive.

DC 8 & 5 are now fighting over a toy dragon, thinking of having them put back in...

GlitteryFluff · 20/08/2016 10:41

rice they were really fine tbh. I think someone on my thread said don't ask for it, get them to suggest it then you can agree to them. So I think they wanted to do the whole process again and I said no. I refuse to have anymore examinations or induction procedures. It hurt, my entire lower belly was excruciating and I hadn't yet had a contraction. What are my options now? They asked a few more times, said it could work this time etc. I explained that I was here being induced as I was overdue. There's a reason for that, safety to baby due to placenta etc. I don't feel comfortable trying again and again. Surely if they've got me in to be induced baby needs to come out ASAP. So no more induction, what are my options? They said a section would be the only thing left, I said that's fine, lets do it. They then scarily explained all the risks (hurting baby, might need a hysterectomy, cutting bowels or bladder etc which wasn't comforting!) then went off come back and got me to sign the paperwork within about 5minutes of mentioning it. It was still about 24hours before there was space for me but the end was in sight.
The section was amazing. Calm and positive and lovely. I had it quite late so that night when DH had to go home the nurses did the care for baby as I couldn't get out of bed. The next night though I did all the care for him so although sore I was able to do it so could get out of bed, could make bottles, could do nappies etc. Went home next day. DH had two weeks off work and was very hands on, after the two weeks we decided he should have another as I wasn't quite ready (we lived up three flights of stairs so I couldn't do that on my own with DS and all the baby stuff on my own yet.)
It was really fine. I hope I can have another section with any future baby as it was really positive for me.
I really hope you get to meet your baby soon.
I can pm you the link to my old thread if you wanted to read it? The posts on there completely got me though it. And told me what I could and couldn't do. Without them is have either been really injured trying to get a breech 11lber out or him hurt whilst trying or an emergency section which would have been scary.

Afreshstartplease · 20/08/2016 10:48

Good luck op!

Robinkitty · 20/08/2016 10:52

I was in same position with dc3, I was given the pessary and then another and then put it the queu for having my waters broken, was told it could b days until there was a space. My contractions started naturally that evening and I had a quick labour.
I just kept myself busy walking round and round the hospital grounds, got dh to bring in dc for a visit etc

ricecrispies16 · 20/08/2016 11:05

Glittery yes please, would be interesting to read. Thanks

This was me a few weeks ago. You have all of my sympathy and thought. I went in to be induced at 42weeks and was kept waiting all day being told that delivery was too busy. I only needed my waters breaking as I was ready contracting and had for days, but not strong contractions and they weren't going anywhere. I was told that night that they were finally ready for me and then I was told minutes later that someone else had come in. I was very patient and understanding throughout. The next day I felt like I was being strung along so started to make a (firm but polite - and slightly emotional) fuss. With in hours I'd been sent to delivery. I did however have to wait for four hours in delivery before I actually had my waters broken. I then immediately went into labour, went for a walk (hardest thing ever) & she was out 4 hours later.

As I was so overdue they needed to monitor me throughout which was a good thing as her blood pressure dropped worryingly low - think room full of doctors. All is now ok and I am writing this from a darkened room trying to get her to nap!

I hope you are seen to soon. I do think that in these circumstances you need to be a bit forceful. Good luck.

londonrach · 20/08/2016 12:08

I had the pessary to. Got told it takes 3 days. Refused to allow that to happen...i walked in circles around the ward (bored myself silly doing it) and bounced on the ball for england. Didn't stop for 5 hours. Didnt sit down unless they did a monitor. She was born very quickly that day,.....perfect. Being active really helps but dont wear yourself out like i did. Good luck x

LurkyLurkerMcLurkface · 20/08/2016 12:57

Also voting for long walk! I stomped round Euston at rush hour frightening commuters by stopping to contact every few minutes. By the time I was back they could break my waters and baby was born 4 hours later

MimsyBorogroves · 20/08/2016 13:05

I was in the same position too, OP. Breaking my waters was the thing which got me going in the end.

WellErrr · 20/08/2016 13:25

Hope you're away soon!

noshthis · 20/08/2016 14:34

Any news OP??

septembersunshine · 20/08/2016 15:00

Feel terrible for you op. I am having a section at 38 weeks in five days and that is a long enough wait (medical reasons for the early birth). Just wanted to tell you that if it comes to a section it's really not that bad. I have always recovered really quickly with no problems (it's my 4th DC). Hope you are in labour by now and things are happening! If not I would start putting your foot down.

JedRambosteen · 20/08/2016 15:04

Hi OP. I've only read your first post & I was in your shoes, although it was my first. I really feel for you & hope your stuborn makes an appearance soon.

JedRambosteen · 20/08/2016 15:15

Stubborn baby...

re you OP I'd request an ELCS. I believe the recovery is much easier after a smooth ELCS than a long, failed labour and an EMCS.

^ incidentally, this was my experience. EMCS with DS1, very overdue & after 4 days of failed stop-start induction. ELCS with DS2 at 39 weeks. My recovery from the ELCS was much easier, probably helped by being well-rested and mooching around at home beforehand rather than several broken nights on a noisy, stuffy ward.

ricecrispies16 · 20/08/2016 23:15

She's here!!

Born at 1835 tonight very abruptly! But she's here, she's beautiful and it's over!

Thanks everyone
