Was I U to park partially in this disabled space?

Went to the train station today to pick up tickets.

Pulled up to park in the motorcycle area (I ride a motorbike) and there is a big white van parked in it blocking the whole parking space.

The disabled parking spaces in this car park are next to the bike parking space and there was someone in a car in the disabled space. I parked as close as possible to the bike space while still allowing the van driver space to get into the van but this meant I had to park slightly on the white lines that are next to the disabled space to allow extra space to get in/out of a vehicle. There was still plenty of room to get in and out but Wibu to park like this given that someone else was parked in the space I would have parked in?

I was no more than 10/15 minutes and the person in the car didn't say anything and didn't appear to be in a hurry but was this ok? There were no other spaces available at the time Confused

Yes, YWBU and I suspect oyu only posted this thread to be goady.

If you couldn't park right next to the door, you could have simply parked further away or picked up the tickets another time. I usually have no problem picking them up just before my journey - which is just as well, since I live a fair distance from the station.

PurpleDaisies · 19/08/2016 23:19

Why couldn't you have just just waited for a parking space? Most people aren't in a station car park very long.

Samcro · 19/08/2016 23:21

oh my gosh......do it on line

PickAChew · 19/08/2016 23:23

Samcro - you still have to pick the tickets up from the machine, a lot of the time, if you buy them online. Some allow you to just print them off, but they're in the minority.

Samcro · 19/08/2016 23:24

or you park you imaginary motorbike in a imaginary space......

PaulAnkaTheDog · 19/08/2016 23:27

Bloody hell. Your bike was in the space. It leaned over the line, taking up part of the space. Why would you even question whether ywbu? Of course you were. Astounded you would have to ask.

SpecialAgentFreyPie · 19/08/2016 23:30

I really don't think you've understood either of my comments, given your responses. But it doesn't matter, this is just goady bull anyway which mnhq will allow to stand of course, as it's 'healthy debate

Feel sorry for your niece, with an aunt like you. Your sibling and parents must think you're a horrible person.

SpecialAgentFreyPie · 19/08/2016 23:32

Spot on Samcro
These threads don't upset me as much as they used to, because I often assume the OP is lying. Especially when they trot out 'I have disabled relatives/friends! Aren't I wonderful' Classic sign they're lying.

Or just a piece of shit, I spose.

Kanga59 · 19/08/2016 23:35

yabu and you know it. why not just block a non-disabled-space car in, instead?

PurpleDaisies · 19/08/2016 23:36

I don't think it's acceptable to do that either kanga. The op should have just waited for a free space like any sensible person would have

whatwhatinthewhatnow · 19/08/2016 23:43

Am I the only one wondering if the person sitting there was still in the car when OP got back because they couldn't get out due to said bike taking up all the space Confused

Fortitudine · 19/08/2016 23:44

Yes you were. It pisses me off so much when people abuse disabled spaces (DP is disabled). I'm with the person above who'd have kicked your bike over.

whatwhatinthewhatnow · 19/08/2016 23:44

Ah, I see samcro also thought it; that wasn't there before I refreshed!

Samcro · 19/08/2016 23:45

its ok
the op's imaginary nephew would have been able to get out. so the op was not blocking the imaginary disabled person in.

Samcro · 19/08/2016 23:47

Fortitudine ahh come dh says he would "shove"

SquidgeyMidgey · 19/08/2016 23:47

YABU, did this actually happen?

PovertyPain · 19/08/2016 23:51

What a load of bollocks. Hmm

Samcro · 19/08/2016 23:52
leopardgecko · 20/08/2016 10:49

the op's imaginary nephew would have been able to get out. so the op was not blocking the imaginary disabled person in

And of course the nephew has exactly the same disability as the driver of the car, and needs exactly the same equipement of exactly the same size as the driver. Because as we all know one disabled person needs exactly the same amount of room and same amount of help as every other disabled person!

Only one question in this circumstance:

Do I have a blue badge?

If the answer is no, then parking in it, even partially makes you a colossal twat wrong.

HTH

JudyCoolibar · 20/08/2016 13:50

I'm not sure why you feel the need to ask if you were unreasonable. On your own admission you parked somewhere that wasn't a designated parking space, so clearly you were in the wrong. The fact that you chose to park somewhere where it would impinge on disabled people takes it up several levels of wrongness.

ShelaghTurner · 20/08/2016 13:54

Totally regardless of everything else in the thread, particularly amused by the fact that people don't park for long at the station. Assuming all day while they're at work/on a day trip/whatever isn't long 🤔

VoldysGoneMouldy · 20/08/2016 13:58

Of course you were being unreasonable. And selfish. And a general arsehole.

Not disabled? Don't park in - even a little bit! - in a disabled space.
