Was I U to park partially in this disabled space?

Went to the train station today to pick up tickets.

Pulled up to park in the motorcycle area (I ride a motorbike) and there is a big white van parked in it blocking the whole parking space.

The disabled parking spaces in this car park are next to the bike parking space and there was someone in a car in the disabled space. I parked as close as possible to the bike space while still allowing the van driver space to get into the van but this meant I had to park slightly on the white lines that are next to the disabled space to allow extra space to get in/out of a vehicle. There was still plenty of room to get in and out but Wibu to park like this given that someone else was parked in the space I would have parked in?

I was no more than 10/15 minutes and the person in the car didn't say anything and didn't appear to be in a hurry but was this ok? There were no other spaces available at the time Confused

Yes. Do you really need to ask? Are you feeling guilty or something?

TheFairyCaravan · 19/08/2016 20:58

Yes you were.

I need to be able to open my door fully, and to have the help of another person for me to get out when I use my crutches. When I use my wheelchair I need it right next to the door, which again needs to be fully open.

It's impossible for you, or anyone else, to determine how much room that disabled person needed to exit their vehicle.

MrsH987 · 19/08/2016 21:04

Without being able to see how you were actually parked, ts impossible to say if YABU.

However, as you are asking the question (without having been confronted by someone), it means you may yourself think you were being unreasonable. That should suggest that you were if you are questioning it.

AliceInUnderpants · 19/08/2016 21:11

Draw us a diagram

NeedAnotherGlass · 19/08/2016 21:12

I don't understand why you have even posted this question.
You either parked partially over a disabled bay or you didn't.
If you did, you already know you were wrong, but I'm sure you were far too busy and far too important to have to wait for a space to become free.

Next time, take a photo, because it seems to me like you have posted an intentionally goady question, then minimised it with your description.
I parked over a disabled bay but not really.

Welshmaenad · 19/08/2016 21:16

You were in the hatched area to the side of a disabled space? YWBU sorry. If a wheelchair user parks in a disabled space the whole hatched area is needed to fully open the car and get the chair in, and even then it's a bit tight. Also Nin wheelchair users often need to fully open the doors and you would have obstructed that.

I'm pretty rageful about people who do this and had you instructed me from getting my disabled DD out of the car I'd have probably just kicked your bike over to make room. So maybe don't do it again. Especially in Wales.

FedupofbeingtoldIcantusemyname · 19/08/2016 21:35

Don't know how to draw a diagram on here, sorry :/

My DNephew is disabled and the way I judged it was I thought "would there be enough room for him and his wheelchair in this space". There was, so therefore I didn't think I was causing an obstruction and not BU. If I had thought I would be causing an obstruction I wouldn't have parked there.

My bike is only a small one, you could have got at least 2 more bikes in the space between where my bike was and where the car was so I thought that was enough but I stand corrected!

Y KNOW WBU. Massively so. That's why you're asking, because you know there are plenty of useful idiots on here to assuage your guilt and assure you that it was fine, not like those silly BB owners, overreacting.

Having a disabled relative makes what you did worse, not justified

FedupofbeingtoldIcantusemyname · 19/08/2016 22:18

I don't know special, I think more people on here have disagreed and said I was BU so I don't know why you think I think the BB owners are overreacting?

Either way, I don't feel guilty. I judged that there was enough room and asked if I was BU. I've been informed that I was, I made a mistake and therefore I won't do it again. Not sure why you think I should feel guilty as I didn't actually get in anyone's way or inconvenience anyone - the person sitting in the car was still there by the time I got back.

Is this a reverse???

FedupofbeingtoldIcantusemyname · 19/08/2016 22:19

No it isn't.

It's tough shit if there aren't other spaces.
Sorry,,didn't even need to read past title to know YABU

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/08/2016 22:22

Glad you realised it. There is hope Wink :)

WeAllHaveWings · 19/08/2016 22:43

It not up to you to judge how much space any disabled person needs, the lines are there to show you and parking anywhere on them is a dickhead thing to do. YAB spectacularily U.

You should have done what everyone else does, drove round the carpark until a space was free.

FedupofbeingtoldIcantusemyname · 19/08/2016 22:51

Ah well, I'll know for next time Smile

Samcro · 19/08/2016 22:52

Oh gosh
Maybe they were still in the car
Because they couldn't get out

SpecialAgentFreyPie · 19/08/2016 22:52

You knew for this time. You just didn't want to park somewhere further away.

FedupofbeingtoldIcantusemyname · 19/08/2016 23:08

No, they had plenty of room to get out. They were in the passenger seat so I suspect they were waiting for someone.

Yeah, if you say so special. Y'know, since you were there and all. I'm sure you know best Smile

Samcro · 19/08/2016 23:11

Op you asked if yabu
You are
So why start this thread, i dont get it

user1471428758 · 19/08/2016 23:11

Sorry, there's absolutely no justification for this, so don't even try.

"No other spaces available" = tough shit, you don't get to park there.

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 19/08/2016 23:13

Well as long as you can smile Hmm

Samcro · 19/08/2016 23:13

Hopefully next time a carer will just shove your bike

Sparklingbrook · 19/08/2016 23:14

I dont understand why you to ask either. Why did it take so long to pick some tickets up?

Sparklingbrook · 19/08/2016 23:15

*had

honeysucklejasmine · 19/08/2016 23:15

Perhaps the driver was the disabled person. After all, if it was the passenger, who was merely waiting in the car, they shouldn't have parked there either
