Aibu to think if you are going to post on a thread you should at least do the op the courtesy of reading and trying to take in what they have said?

If you cba to read the whole thread, or skim it, or read the last page of posts to get the gist, or even just the op's updates (which are easily found) - am I BU to think you could at least read the thread title and op and try to take it all on board before you reply! Confused

I like to offer commitment to a thread. Like proper effort

I see a poster offering bits of the story as their way of ensuring that details get read in a timely manner.

If all I am willing to read is the first post then it is not really the op's fault that I have zero attention span

Yes that was dripfed, but people were still plopping about ten pages later.

And SN don't make that much difference to the calorie requirements of a teenager, unlike (say) county sport.

Someone said something recently on this subject that I thought was illuminating - a poster said she doesn't read the full thread on purpose because she thought the point of aibu was to crowdsource a lot of different individual opinions. She claimed to be maintaining the 'purity'of her opinion by,er, nba to rtft.

I thought it was a bit silly not to engage with the wider discussion. I'd not post something if the point had already been made, but it did give me an insight as to why people post things that are identical to the views of other posters above.

Not reading the op properly is ridic tho.

HandbagCrab · 19/08/2016 21:23

Haven't rtft but yabu. Why should I read the thread, op or even the title! I'm going to give my ill considered opinion based on the first three words that pop into my head because that's my right and this is aibu so you should suck it up. And I'm right so ner.

It's obviously a human frailty, I don't think I've seen a written site that isn't full of exasperated rtfts!

YorkieDorkie · 19/08/2016 21:34

YANBU! It's so fucking frustrating! I don't really care but it's the follow up of comments that are annoyed with the person who hasn't read the thread, making it SOOO much longer and harder to read.
