To think its unusual for someone middle aged to have no mobile & no home internet

Someone I know professionally who is in a senior role, so not an income issue. I'm trying to work out if he's a raging Luddite or a wrong 'un. It's the only two explanations I can come up with. Grin For context, we are in an urban area with excellent mobile phone coverage and lots of broadband options. Basically, the scenario does not compute. Why would anyone be so unconnected in this day and age?

I know a good few people who don't have Internet at home or any mobile phone at all. Most of them don't have a TV either. They are all in good jobs and access the Internet at work. They are the kind of people who prefer to read/do crafts/go for walks, and they tend to have radio 4 on constantly.

For most of them it's a specific lifestyle choice about choosing how much the outside world (including work) infiltrates your private life.

Wouldn't work for me. If I go 12 hours without Internet access I'm close to a meltdown.

I don't understand the idea that having internet / smart phone / social media and reading / radio 4 / communicating in RL are mutually exclusive. As someone said the media stuff is a tool, that's all. We watch tv, put phones on silent/flight safe at night, talk and read books! Everything in moderation! Personally I think the person on the emergency responder list should be required to carry a mobile. Imagine if he were in the garden and missed an important call. I know we managed without them but in an emergency they are a life saver.
