Sorry for the clichéd apology about the Daily Fail link, but who the bloody hell does he think he is to criticise Jess Varnish in this way? There is an inquiry by British Cycling about the Shane Sutton incident, its got fuck all to do with him. And I apologise for not agreeing with others when they said he was a dick. Cos he is Angry

But where did she say she wanted a family? Its neither here nor there whether was said but in the middle of an inquiry into the matter the most successful male athlete in the field rubbishes everything shes said. It is disingenuous to think that it will not have an impact on Jess Varnishes credibility and the outcome of the inquiry. That is the point I am trying to make.

Nowhere... I shall leave you to it. My interest in the science, having a discussion, is obviously unwanted, not understood.

That and Wiggins has every right to defend his sport. Why wouldn't he?

He may be clueless as to how the NGB treats female athletes but he is still entitled to an opinion. As it is not a court of law he doesn't have to shut the fuck up, either!

bearleftmonkeyright · 16/08/2016 19:11

My angle was his dismissal of the sexist allegations as nonsense. I don't doubt your knowledge Ourblanche but I had a point to make. Of course people will disagree with me.

Thing is, regardless of what anyone did or didn't say, cycling, like most sports, will always be sexist while it continues to pay males more than females.

I think that tints every conversation BC has with its female cyclists. So that everything gets twisted because pay is the elephant in the room.

MimiSunshine · 17/08/2016 04:58

I was going to say Victoria P was horrible bullied when her relationship came out. In the documentary I watched I'm sure she wasn't allowed to train as she normally would and Shane seemed to take it completely personally that her and Scott were together

CoolCarrie · 17/08/2016 05:04

BW always seems like a smug git, can't stand him and his buggery grips !

bearleftmonkeyright · 17/08/2016 08:16

Salty I think that is the crux of it. We should be paying our female cyclists the same.

"Salty I think that is the crux of it. We should be paying our female cyclists the same."

Do you mean they should be earning the same over all? They have income from many different places, LT will almost certainly earn more from sponsorship and her brand than JK.
Or do you mean they should earn the same from British cycling?

This is an interesting article. Obviously the likes of Laura Trott will be getting masses in sponsorship on the back of her success and that is her business and hers alone. Cycliing in general is such a wide ranging sport with so many interested parties. I am sure we will see change but, my point was about the refusal of so many high profile male cyclists to accept that it is possible that lessons need to be learnt in its treatment of female cyclists. I just saw red when I came across the article and felt very disappointed in his attitude.

"Bullying, sexism and disablism don't exist" - says ultra confident able bodied male. It must be easy to believe that nobody else could possibly be treated badly when you are the golden boy. "mole in the camp" comment is a big accusation, much worse than "sour grapes whinger".
I notice Jess Varnish tweeted congratulations and support last night.

whattodowiththepoo · 17/08/2016 13:00

Who said that power?

bearleftmonkeyright · 17/08/2016 13:14

Have you read the article poo? Wiggins said he hadn't seen any evidence of sexism from Sutton and that Varnish was just making allegations about Sutton due to sour grapes about not being picked for the team. One of her allegations against Sutton is that alongside the baby comment he was derogatory about the para team.

OP posts:
Lottapianos · 17/08/2016 13:26

I read an interview with Victoria Pendleton where she was asked about the allegations Jess Varnish made against Sutton and whether she was surprised by them. She responded that absolutely nothing surprised her anymore where Sutton was concerned.

I believe her and Jess Varnish and Bradley Wiggins should keep out of it all until the matter has been investigated fully

OurBlanche · 17/08/2016 13:30

I believe her and Jess Varnish and Bradley Wiggins should keep out of it all until the matter has been investigated fully

Surely you can see the double standard there?

Lottapianos · 17/08/2016 13:36

OurBlanche, I can Smile I just get utterly sick and tired of men popping up to say that they've never seen any of this so-called sexism so obviously its all rubbish. Hmm, why do you think that maybe you've never seen any sexism, male member of the team??? BW has form for being clueless when it comes to sexism anyway so it sticks in my craw even more. Referring to a 'mole in the team' is just plain nasty and I do think he should keep those comments to himself

whattodowiththepoo · 17/08/2016 13:47

I have bear and he didn't say "bullying, sexism and disablism don't exist"

I'm not aware of anyone in British cycling anything close to that quote.

bearleftmonkeyright · 17/08/2016 13:58

No, but he did say, "This whole, sexism thing, I've never ever seen any sign of that really". Thereby denying all claims by Varnish and basically accusing her of lying. I am trying to keep an open mind as I am well aware this is the Daily Mail that I am quoting from. But as ourblanche rightly says there are double standards on all sides by talking to the media.

OP posts:
OurBlanche · 17/08/2016 14:08

Lotta and I can remain utterly unimpressed at the double standards of someone moaning about someone else publicly commenting on a live investigation whilst, erm, commenting on a live investigation!

2 wrongs not making a right and all that!

bearleftmonkeyright · 17/08/2016 14:15

OK ourblanche, I guess your last post was directed at me and I make no apology for starting this thread. I wanted to discuss it.

OP posts:
JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 17/08/2016 14:26

If I heard two black people saying they'd experienced racist treatment, and then a white person popped up and said 'I don't think there's any racism about'...........

then without knowing anything else about the situation, my gut instinct would be to go with the black people. Of course they might turn out to be lying. But on balance, I think it's less likely than that the white person is privileged and blind.

OurBlanche · 17/08/2016 14:29

Actually it was aimed at the person whose name I included...and quoted in the post before that. But yes, OK. If you are doing the same then yes, I would find that odd, hypocritical and irritating!

Grannypants1 · 17/08/2016 14:31

Newsflash- white male denys existance of sexism because he hasn't seen it. That is that solved, we can all go home now.

OurBlanche · 17/08/2016 14:33

The odd thing, Johnny, is no one, no, not even me, has said that Wiggins is right. Even I have said he is speaking from his male perspective and, as such, is clueless!
