I've had a really really shit year. I'm now in my new house and mostly feeling optimistic and hopeful. I used to hate inspirational signs - but now feel I could really use one - something to hang by the front door as a little pep talk to myself.

However intried to find one yesterday and most made me Hmm

Do you have one and what does it say?

In our study I have '"you miss 100% of the shots you don't take" - Wayne Gretzky -Michael Scott'

It's a quote from the American Office but it makes me laugh and is true!

It's in that whimsical brush lettering font that is everywhere these days, just made it on picmonkey.com

MrsMozart · 16/08/2016 08:47

"We don't stop laughing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop laughing."

And my favourite that's getting me through idiot client times (it's a Polish saying): "Not my circus. Not my monkeys." Love it and has kept me sane! Admittedly I did have to rearrange it the other day when D was being a twonk - "It is my circus and he is my monkey.", which made me laugh and be able to manage the twonkiness :-)

This is my favourite Wink

I used to write a 'Thought of the day' at my place of work, i did this for 3 years before i moved on.
Hundreds of customers used to take pictures every day and would post them online.
I had lots of positive feedback about the quotes.
Pinterest is a great place to get quote.... go there and search 'quotes' or be more specific and look for.... 'Love quotes', 'Uplifting quotes', 'Life quotes' , 'Famous quotes' etc.

I like quotes like ......
'When life knocks you down, roll over & look at the stars'.
'Life is like a camera, focus on whats important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don't work out.... take another shot'.
'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, its about learning to dance in the rain'.
"If you ever think about giving up, remember all the reasons why you've held on for so long'.
'Courage doesn't always roar, sometimes courage is the silent voice at the end of the day saying "I'll try again tomorrow" '.
'When the world says "Give up"... hope whispers "try more more time".
'At the end of the day all you need is hope and strength.... Hope that it will get better and strength to hold on until it does.
'Anyone can give up, its the easiest thing in the world to do but to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength'.

There are so many beautiful quotes out there.
I have around 4000 saved on my computer from when i did the quotes for work.

pinterest is good for quotes (and lots of ideas on how to make nice looking signs for only a few pounds)

ToastedOrFresh · 16/08/2016 08:59

What lies ahead of you is nothing compared to what lies within you

Also, not really uplifting but the embroidered or stitched sentiment:

When this you see remember me

ConformationFart · 16/08/2016 09:04

Happiness is a choice

When clouds gather turn your face upwards and let the sun find you.

VioletBam · 16/08/2016 09:06

If you can't love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?

Rupaul.

Another Rupaul favourite is

Now sissy that walk!

I think of this when I have to kick ass

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 16/08/2016 09:14

I love this short poem by Erin Hanlon (I think!)

There is freedom waiting for you on the breezes of the sky
And you say "what if I fall?"
Oh but my darling, what if you fly?

frikadela01 · 16/08/2016 09:16

Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/08/2016 09:21

Ooooooh Autumn are you the Sage of Oval Station??????

TyrionLannistersShadow · 16/08/2016 09:32

That Irish blessing is :
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

AutumnStorm · 16/08/2016 09:39

BendydickCuminsnatch - No ..... I used to do the Thought of the day at Earls Court tube station Smile

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/08/2016 11:01

Ooooh that's awesome Autumn!

thewavesofthesea · 16/08/2016 11:04

'I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday'

I've recently got a sign with this on, for my desk at work x

teafortoads · 16/08/2016 13:10

It can't rain all the time (from The Crow film!).

Lovelongweekends · 16/08/2016 13:14

I was going to say the same as Iwillonly- gives me tingles that one!

CinnamonTwist · 16/08/2016 14:42

I have a Pinterest board full of these for days when I need some motivation, of any kind:

'The same boiling water that softens the potato hardens the egg. It's about what you're made of, not the circumstances'

'Stop waiting for Friday, for summer, for someone to fall in love with you, for life. Happiness is achieved when you stop waiting for it and make the most of the moment you are in now'

'Choose to be optimistic. It feels better'

'You don't get the same moment twice in life'

'I am not what has happened to me, I am what I choose to become'

'You never know who needs you. Good energy is contagious'

'On particularly rough days, when I'm sure I can't endure, I like to remind myself that my track record for getting through bad days so far is 100%, and that's pretty good!'

'The grass isn't greener on the other side; it's green where you water it'

I'm sure I have some better ones but my internet is being painfully slow!

HenDogismylife · 16/08/2016 14:49

Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's learning to dance in the rain.

SistersOfPercy · 16/08/2016 15:42

Not a fan either, but some years ago I was given one at a school fair by dd's lovely teacher.
We are quite an 'alternative' family, we airways took the kids to rock festivals and comic cons long before it was the norm. As I walked past her stall she shouted "oi! Sisters! I've saved this for you!" And handed me a little wooden plaque that read

remember, as far as anyone knows we're a normal family

It's by the front door and always makes me smile.

ItMustBeBedtimeSurely · 16/08/2016 16:57

Relax, nothing's under control.

Love it. I have control freak tendencies so need this reminder.

On a similar note, stolen from AA:

Let go and let God.

I'm not religious but it's meaningful to me anyway - reminds me that the really good things just happen when I stop trying to control life and go with the flow.
