So I cut my foot about ten days ago

It was deepish but I couldn't be bothered with the walk in

So dh super glued it

Which wasn't a bad idea except drink had been taken and we didn't clean it first. Infection set in and couldn't escape due to super hard super glue skin

I used a clean Stanley knife to relieve the pressure. (Sponers it was magnificent)

Now however the sore but is growing and the skin around it is dead and the dead skin is growing

I keep chopping off the dead skin but more appears

Dh thinks doctors I think that's a waste of everyone's time

AIBU?

Go to the doctors and get it bandaged up nicely. Then the dead skin will stop growing and healthy skin will grow instead.

You don't NEED to go since it doesn't look infected, just inflamed. But bandaging it properly will help.

You healed a wound with superglue and took a knife to your foot? Yes, I would see a doctor...

Go to the doctor!

You seem well equipped - could your husband amputate the foot? I admire his reluctance to overburden the NHS.

Dh pointed out that super glue was originally invented for wounds

Which seemed like a sensible notion at the time

It's not infected any more but it hurts like Buggery to walk on and the dead skin keeps growing back

But am concerned doctor will think I am a loon and give me a plaster (which I've tried obviously but hasn't helped)

Or the nurse. A nurse can deal with this too.

catgirl1976 · 09/08/2016 23:06

Nurse is good plan

Will see if I can get a non urgent nurse appointment and maybe not mention the supergluing part

I wouldnt bother. Superglue is a way of patching up wounds. Hillwakers do it. It looks ok

Shock superglue ? Stanley knife ? Shock
I don't know if I should puke or congratulate you on being hardcore.

Dh will be pleased about the hill walkers and being right about super glue as a legitimate remedy

Can you put a donut shaped plaster (like a corn one) on it so it can breath and you aren't walking on it ?

Report
catgirl1976 · 09/08/2016 23:11

Possibly. I'll have a look in boots. I think if it were anywhere else but my foot it wouldn't be a problem but obviously need to walk to its constantly getting rubbed.

As someone who spent the first week of the holidays laid up with Cellulitis as a result of a foot injury (granted there was no superglue or Stanley knives involved), I would say get to a bloody doctor. The growing dead skin makes me very uneasy.

Do it.

I work with consultants and one of them used superglue to patch up a cut in her finger. It was all good.

seventhgonickname · 09/08/2016 23:14

I think seeing as it is not healing seeing your GP or a minor injuries clinic would be a good idea.Nothing wrong with glue but pain and a non healing wound not great.
Also the dead skin is not growing but more skin is dying.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 09/08/2016 23:14

Ooh I did much the same except it involved a hideous Tesco blister plaster and a needle to relieve the build up of pus that had made my foot disturbingly hot and swollen.
I think I cleaned it with surgical spirit whilst screaming into a pillow and dressed it with lint and micropore until bits stopped dying.

Report
catgirl1976 · 09/08/2016 23:16

I should not have googled cellulitis and possible complications. I shall go and see the nurse. Surgical spirit sounds too stingy on top of everything else the foot has been through

Nurse practioner? They can prescribe, in case you need antibiotics, as well as clean and bandage it up

And stop gluing and cutting your foot!

GiddyOnZackHunt · 09/08/2016 23:23

No seriously. It hurt like buggery fuck for a few minutes hence the pillow screaming. Foot was the size of a brick before lancing.

I admire your have-a-go spirit, I'd be a superglue Stanley knife pioneer, however dead skin does not grow, but living flesh dies. Which could be a sign of serious infection/gangrene/cellulitis. Swing by nursey to have a look.
Always wash out wounds when self mending!

Sorry, still trying to stop laughing at 'dead skin growing' 😂 You've been at the drink again haven't you!?

It doesn't look that bad, but you might as well give the nurse a laugh look at it.

Nurses are likely to be more experienced with wound dressings than doctors. Is it painful swollen or hot to the touch btw? Those would be bad signs. It needs to be covered to protect it so it can heal. Wounds actually heal better when allowed to be moist, rather than to dry out. New cells can't grow in dry conditions.

That actually looks alright. I've done far worse home butchery.

It hurts so much because of where it is. Cut away the hanging skin and clean it properly. Then use Party Feet (other brands of foot cushions are available) and possibly blister patches to cushion it a bit while walking. If it develops another layer of hard skin then leave it unless it looks like there's puss underneath. It needs the hard and dead skin to allow the skin beneath to heal. Plenty of air and clean it daily.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/08/2016 23:37

That looks fine, I'd shove a Compeed on it and leave to heal.
