To think weight loss of five a week is not normal

I've been losing this for the past four weeks. I was only two stone overweight to start with.

I think we're all supposed to say "oh wow, that's amazing hun, what diet are you on"? And then OP comes back and tries to flog us Herbalife or Juice Plus.

That kind of backfired on her, didn't it?

ShebaShimmyShake · 10/08/2016 08:21

I don't understand why you'd do an unhealthy crash diet if you're concerned about unhealthy crash weight loss. You're fucking up your metabolism and probably your heart and kidneys. Do it sensibly. It's more likely to be water and muscle loss on a stupid crash diet like that.

ARumWithAView · 10/08/2016 08:33

LunaLoveg00d, I hope so.

I've seen similar posts, written by people with EDs, and they're designed to get shocked reactions 'wow, you're crazy' and 'how can you do that?' and 'you're going to hurt yourself' which, in a weird way, validate the OP's behaviour. They strengthen this voice-of-an-ED which is telling you you're sooo extreme, so disciplined, no one else could handle this.

Don't worry dear it'll all go back on when you inevitably have to start eating again

Zame · 10/08/2016 08:36

If you want to lose weight long term, you're going to have to do it slowly. Make small changes so it doesn't feel like you're punishing yourself. Eat lots of vegetables, lots and lots

alltouchedout · 10/08/2016 08:39

What's this, humblebragging? On 500 calories a day I'd expect to be losing more than that, if I could even stand up.

idontlikealdi · 10/08/2016 08:41

Is be annoyed if I hadn't lost more tbh.

I'm going to read this as a cry for help rather than ignorance, you need to get it sorted out.

I have lost half a stone in 1 week on a VERY strict calorie controlled diet.

Also, it's not unusual to lose about 10 pounds a week on the first week of a diet especially if, like me, you'd been overindulging previously.

I was on a 800 calorie a day diet - along with a lot of exercise - lost 5 pounds in second week of dieting.

MackerelOfFact · 10/08/2016 08:43

right now, your body is eating away at muscle, not burning the excess fat you have. It is not healthy

Yes, this. Also muscle burns calories, so you're fucking up your metabolism too. So once you stop eating 500 calories a day, you'll not only put the original weight back on but you'll add more weight because your body will be less efficient at burning calories than it was before due to lost muscle.

I hope this is just a troll, but seriously OP, in case it isn't: please see a doctor for help with anorexia.

mogloveseggs · 10/08/2016 08:45

I had 2 poached eggs on a slice of toast with tomatoes, peppers and spinach for breakfast. Just looked it up that's around 400 calories. Im still peckish you must be ravenous!

Summernights56 · 10/08/2016 08:48

I've decided to increase my intake from today. To be honest I just wanted a quick fix I wasn't really thinking about being able to maintain.

SeaEagleFeather · 10/08/2016 08:57

I'm told that one problem with crash diets like that is that all the toxins that are stored in your cells get released all at once instead of slowly over time through gradual weight loss

Apparently it can make you really very ill

Glad to hear you're increasing your intake ... it's worth doing a bit of looking into what is the best food to eat and the most effective (healthy) diets and find one that suits you

KitKat1985 · 10/08/2016 09:11

That's crazy. I had about 2 stone to lose after having DD and found Weight Watchers really good (I'm not a rep or anything don't panic)! You can eat pretty much freely on most fruit and vegetables, and it encourages you to eat sensibly for your other meals. You still need at least 1200-1400 calories a day as a bare minimum for sustainable weight loss (and that's only if you are fairly inactive). I reckon I was eating about 1500-1600 most days when I was losing weight (I was walking for about an hour each day) and still steadily lost 1-2 pounds a week. It's far more sustainable. You will quickly get very ill on 500 calories a day.

itsonlysubterfuge · 10/08/2016 09:16

If you are going to crash diet, you should at least do it as healthy as you can. I've read Lyle McDonald's Rapid Fat Loss Handbook and I found it really good. It's all about doing a crash diet for a short amount of time and focuses on losing fat rather than muscle by having an extreme amount of protein and no fat or sugar. Basically very lean protein and certain veg is all you eat. He gives you the numbers to work out how much protein you need to eat to help prevent muscle loss. He also gives you advice on how to slowly move from the rapid diet onto a regular sustainable diet.
