AIBU is there such a thing as a 930-230pm private daycare

So AIBU before I start researching to think that daycare providers would give me a cheaper day rate for 930-230 daycare? Thanks

Closest I ever got was 9-1, half day, no discount.

I've never seen this - you would in effect be reserving a place for the whole day. It tends to be mornings, afternoons or full days. They wouldn't be able to fill the other hours that you aren't using.

Most preschools do 9-3?

Mine does 9-3 - called a 'school-day'. There's also a half-day option (am or pm) and obvs a full day option.

I'm a childminder and offer this. It fits in nicely with wrap around for schools.

I was just about to say some childminders would do it. I would charge for the full day, but others would charge for the hours you book.

Yes I've used two different private nurseries that have offered a "school hours" rate (9 til 3 or 8:30 til 2:30). However, a lot don't offer it and you would have to reserve a full day rate or only do a half day (usually til 12:30/1pm ish)

My DS goes to a private nursery and you can chose your hours so he does 9.30am-2.30pm. It is the only one I found in the area that had it.

That's what I want kind of school hours. It's cheaper cos it's less hours and only 1 meal. Plus she'll nap from 1230 to 230 lol she will be 2 so would probably have to be a private provider or childminder thanks folks I'm not BU!

Our private nursery does a school hours session 9-3 which is cheaper but only for the 3-5 yr olds.

Personally if I were you I would probably look for a nanny or childminder who could easily cover those hours whilst their own children are in school.

I haven't heard of any nursery settings offering it for a reduced rate unless those are their actual hours (I haven't come across this one). A day (eg 8-6) nursery wouldn't because they would rather give the place to someone who will stay the whole day and pay full rate. Their expenses (eg staff and running costs) don't change in the hours you're not there.

Anytime I have asked for flexible hours at a nursery they have said you're very welcome to drop off / pick up whenever suits but rate is still the same.

If you had a nanny you could ask them to prep DC dinner for you or do some DC laundry during nap time. Would make it more worthwhile.

Our nursery does long days 8 to 6 or short days either 8 to 3 or 9 til 3. The short days are cheaper until preschool and then they become the same price

Or yes a nanny, if I end up WFH then could have nanny at home. Don't even know what I'm doing yet!

Our last lovely nursery offers this. I think they split the day into 4 sections (8-10, 10-12, 12-3 and 3-6) and you paid for whatever you needed.

My local nursery does what they call a 3/4 day - 8 till 3 or 11 till 6. They give you a discount (not quite 1/4 I think). It makes sense for them - some of the staff will finish a shift or continue to work with the after school club kids.

Round here there are quite a few families who have school age children and a full time nanny, who would love to do a nanny share with you - shares the cost and nanny likes it as she has a child to look after during school hours rather than being expected to do chores.

Many childminders would offer this, especially if there's a big demand for after school care in your area. Some nurseries might, but the only ones here that offer a school day also only offer those hours term time.

Just want school time and hours. Probably looking to become self employed doing something. Thanks for the help everyone seems there are a few avenues I need to explore
