I'm pretty sure he's talking bullocks? Otherwise why the fuck would anyone do a minimum wage job?

Pract dla pip is never more than people need. There are many many extra costs , heating and petrol and parking alone can use it all up.
My disability costs me approx £300 a week rough guess, I do not pay for carers out of my dla.

AndNowItsSeven · 15/08/2016 09:53

Yes pract my we have already established people in receipt of dla are exempt from benefit cap.

Babyroobs · 15/08/2016 09:57

Do you claim child benefit for seven kids ? That would be almost £500 a month !!

practy · 15/08/2016 09:58

I am disabled. When I am really ill I don't go anywhere except to the hospital and Drs. So my only extra cost is heating.

AndNowItsSeven · 15/08/2016 10:03

No babyroobs we don't claim child benefit. But please keep up we are talking about £500 a week benefits not monthly.
Funny though how child benefit became a real live benefit once it was means tested.

AndNowItsSeven · 15/08/2016 10:04

Practy exactly, I have three to four hospital appointments a week , every single week. That's what the petrol and parking costs relate to.....

AndNowItsSeven · 15/08/2016 10:05

My extra costs in the home are far more than heating though, if your costs are really low that's great you can cover them with your dla.
Have you considered how much being disabled really costs you though ie lack of a salary?

DragonsEggsAreAllMine · 15/08/2016 10:24

DLA is paid to people in and out of work, it's not meant to a replacement for a salary. I would imagine their are many on DLA that work as employment is good for many things not just a salary.

There are many of course that don't and escape the cap but likewise there are many that claim WTC by doing the minimum hours to do the same.

Those that want to work will, those who have no intentions won't as the current system allows them to do so.

AndNowItsSeven · 15/08/2016 10:40

Yes dla is paid I and out of work however many people who claim dla can no longer work. Therefore their disability " costs them" £20k , £30 k etc basically their net wages minus their dla.
Many, many parents of disabled children use dla to replace in part a wage.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 15/08/2016 10:42

Given the PIP criteria I would be gobsmacked if the amount anybody got actually covered their needs

NeedsAsockamnesty · 15/08/2016 10:46

Those that want to work will, those who have no intentions won't as the current system allows them to do so

I have a teenager who is currently desperate to work (we claim no benefits) he's also desperate to obtain a provisional licence. He will never be able to do either nor will he ever leave the house without 2 carers or dress himself or feed himself

AndNowItsSeven · 15/08/2016 10:50

And " escape the cap" its not a bonus to be disabled. Also the wtc is not a loophole the cap was meant to be for unemployed people who are not sick or disabled.

AndNowItsSeven · 15/08/2016 10:52

Needs a sock my dd has Asd and really wants a job , only 15% of adults with Asd are employed.
Dragons you have no idea!

NeedsAsockamnesty · 15/08/2016 10:56

You appear to be forgetting seven working households on low incomes and those with disabled household members are the new benefit scum that certain sections of the comunity are now hating, so exemptions now become loop holes.

honknghaddock · 15/08/2016 10:57

Dragons you are goading. No one is that ignorant that they cannot see that there are some levels of disability that mean a person cannot work.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 15/08/2016 11:00

I know seven, my son is autistic but due to his age is currently making me go through the rigmarole and expense of attempting to obtain a provisional that everybody who knows him knows he has no chance of obtaining.

Even my brother won't employ him because it would be to hard to manage despite many reasonable accomadations and a fair few unreasonable ones

AndNowItsSeven · 15/08/2016 11:01

You are correct sock , I obviously haven't spent enough of my time watching channel five.

practy · 15/08/2016 11:01

DLA/PIP is not meant to be a replacement to a salary though. And if you are severely disabled, Local Authorities have to provide care, although I appreciate you have to be very severely disabled.

AndNowItsSeven · 15/08/2016 11:03

Like I said before no it's not a replacement of salary , however being disabled costs your lack of salary.
LA may provide basic care however there are still many more costs of disability.

practy · 15/08/2016 11:03

And a disabled badge means parking is free.

practy · 15/08/2016 11:05

I know there are other costs. And for some people DLA/PIP does not cover them. For others it does. If you are well enough to get out and about, it is far less likely to cover your extra costs.

BITCAT · 15/08/2016 11:05

500pound per week would include rent and that's the max due to the cap for non workers. The cap does not apply to those in receipt of dla. Single people without children the cap is 350 per week including rent. I believe the cap is being further cuto this year to 385.00 outside of London and 442.00 inside London.
For single people it's 257.00 and 296.00.

AndNowItsSeven · 15/08/2016 11:05

No a disabled badge does not mean hospital parking is free!
Are you in receipt of pip? because you don't seem to understand very much about costs of disability.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 15/08/2016 11:06

I couldn't even get a list of carer agency phone numbers from my local authority and mine are known for being ok

practy · 15/08/2016 11:06

And elderly people like my FIL who became disabled when he was older, get no extra help. They are not entitled to PIP/DLA. His heating costs are high. He gets lifts from family and friends to his may appointments as he could not afford taxis and can't drive.
