To think my kids aren't too noisy in the garden?

To put it in context, I have 4 children, all under 12 and it's the summer holidays so they've been playing in the garden together for about 30 mins every day, although not every day. They tend to play made up games which involves a bit of noise and I'm always telling them to keep it down.

Just had a woman round from a house that backs on to our garden complaining about the noise. She said she's lived there for 30 years and never heard noise like it. I said there are 4 of them and they are playing but I would try and get them to keep the noise down. She huffed and walked away. What does she want me to do? Keep them in all day? Am I being unreasonable that they can't make a bit of noise in my garden for a short time? How noisy are your kids? Feeling stressed about living here now, only been here since last year

YABU if they're screaming and shouting, X 4 that would be a real noise nuisance.

I don't think the sound of children playing is offensive, but not ok to let them get over excited and screech.

IME screaming and over-excited children often precede some sort of fight, accident or injury so I always feel the need to get them to dial it down. Difficult when they're four houses down and not yours Grin

We have DC and they play outside a lot. One thing I won't tolerate is them screeching outside.
If they do that they come inside. In my view is totally inconsiderate to others. Our neighbours don't have the same view and I find it exhausting. Others should not have to listen to endless screaming but playing is fine surely?!

If you told them to play "who could shout the loudest" you might find the neighbours decide to play sweary music in the garden.

Playing is one thing but some of these posts just show some people are total dicks.

If it starts to up at 8am and goes on until 11pm at night then. Yes absolutely she has a point. If not then. I'm in the kids play and make a noise brigade.

I don't care how many kids play here - often 10 - so long as there's no screeching and screaming.

They're also not allowed to use foul language. I don't mean swearing but one step before - hell, damn, fart and the like - I have elderly neighbours on both sides who I expect would be offended by it and I don't like to hear it either.

But happy play - they can go ahead and have fun for 12 hours a day if they like :)
