I live in a surburban semi, pretty average.

Next door neighbours have a brand new Range Rover and a year old BMW Big massive thing.

I feel it's a bit much for this road. We are more of a Vauxhall Astra / VW Golf type of road.

Someone on my street owns a Bently Grin

We just live on a nice little council estate. Just because the council estate isn't rough it doesn't mean it's a posh area! Grin Even my dad who is very much middle class would look a bit daft with a Bently.

I knew some people would take this thread way too seriously!

It could be a number of things, spending their money on a nicer car rather than a nicer house as some people prefer this setup; a company car - my boss has a top of the model Tesla; receiving inheritance or compensation; maybe leasing the car.

SunFlower222 · 03/08/2016 16:53

We've got two company cars, the combined value is about £60k, and we reguarly get new ones....looks like we're well off but actually we pay peanuts for them.

WaitrosePigeon · 03/08/2016 16:54

We live in a naice area and house. I have a 2003 A Class, DH has 2016 Range Rover (bought, no finance), so do I win?

"You sound like a right nosy old cow to be honest."

someone has slightly missed the point of mumsnet :)

Noofly · 03/08/2016 17:01

We live in an ordinary estate full of sensible family cars. I own an ancient beat up Mondeo. DH has a new Jaguar XF. I told him I didn't mind him buying it so long as he didn't expect me to ever drive it. I hate expensive cars- feels like showing off to me. I much prefer my old car, scratches and dents and all.

We're definitely not drug dealers!

Phalenopsisgirl · 03/08/2016 17:04

Hehe can't believe how many people are debating this. I get what you are saying. I think the term ' top hat no knickers' might be apt

Togaparties · 03/08/2016 17:05

I have the fastest car in my street, that's the only thing that matters!

FrankUnderwoodsWife · 03/08/2016 17:09

I drive an ancient Mercedes 4x4 and I love it!! Live in central London but travel to the country a fair amount to visit family. So I'm not driving it often around London but when I do, all the nice cars get out of my way!

Lweji · 03/08/2016 17:09

Togaparties

I hear you. :)

Good for a minute I thought that we were not supposed to have a little gossip about random stuff.

Hoppinggreen · 03/08/2016 17:33

We live in an Audi/BMW cul de sac but we join onto an older road of a small terrace and a couple of tiny bungalows. At one of the bungalows is a Maseratti!!! The bloke who lives there looks more like an Astra kind of guy, we really can't work it out.

lurkerspeaks · 03/08/2016 17:40

Cars are important to some people.

The one that always made me laugh was the farmer who used to use his Range Rover out in the fields (brand new, high spec, leather upholstery, properly nice car).

It looked so incongruous and it was also lovely to see the car being used to it's capabilities instead of doing the school run in town!

RichardBucket · 03/08/2016 17:42

I have the newest car on the road -smug-

...but only because it's a company car. When I had to pay for it myself I had the oldest car on the road Grin

Anaffaquine123 · 03/08/2016 17:45

Our street is full of German cars with personalised plates. My Kia and Dh's Fiesta stick out like sore thumbs but why have expensive cars when small humans trash them with snacks, tissues, tat from magazines etc!

I8toys · 03/08/2016 17:47

We live on a normal estate. Two houses down the road are having car wars - regular new BMW's and Mercs usually. Now one of the houses has trumped it with a Ferrari! Mid life crisis in action. Waiting to see what the other house buys now.......

limitedperiodonly · 03/08/2016 17:51

MN threads about the envy and scorn cars provoke are eye openers.

KittyKrap · 03/08/2016 17:52

We live on a veeeery nice estate and all the cars are black, white or silver. Apart from one which is bright blue. I must inform the neighbourhood watch and get them removed..

We DO own the fastest car but it's away for safekeeping as it'll be worth more in years to come. We totally look like drug dealers too!

We have a nice enough house on a nice quiet and well-established street.

We have a couple of rockin' cars because DH is a petrol head.

Piemernator · 03/08/2016 17:56

I have a really old Toyota Yaris that does me just fine, DH has a decent car but will be buying his dream Jag XF in a couple of years.
