To think I have let down every woman everywhere?

I have disappointed myself in being completely unable to put a fucking, bullshit, crappy bookcase together. It just will not work!

My DP offered to help me with it but I told him I was perfectly capable of putting together a book case, thank you very much. Now I have to go crawling back and say I can't. Gah! Angry

I once spent 4 hours putting a bed together when i was about 6 months pregnant. As a strong independent woman there was no way in hell i was asking for help!! Totally not worth the back ache!! Grin

lordStrange · 03/08/2016 13:23

I once spent a whole week putting a shelf together and I'm awesome at furniture. Just wanted to share that anecdote.

TheGruffaloMother · 03/08/2016 13:24

If you can be at all arsed, I'd take it back as faulty. It really should have had holes in that top piece. Unless you mistook a shelf for the top panel?

ImOnMyTumbleTap · 03/08/2016 13:27

Oh I hadn't thought that maybe it was a shelf... Confused

Building flat pack funiture is my special power. I built all the furniture in our house as a teen because both my parents were useless at it. They also used to lend me out to friends to build their furniture Grin

ImOnMyTumbleTap · 03/08/2016 13:28

I am the biggest idiot in the world... Just found the right piece. Grin

I'm so sorry Tumble but I really am laughing Grin I'd personally take it off and put the right piece in. It won't be very durable if the frame isn't done properly.

How many of us have been there? I know I have.

TroysMammy · 03/08/2016 13:32

At least you tried and admitted defeat. You could have easily said from the start you couldn't do it then you would have be letting down women.

I used to tell the Brownie pack I ran "there is no "I can't do it". It's "I've tried but I could do with a bit of help".

ImOnMyTumbleTap · 03/08/2016 13:33

Don't worry Gruffalo, I'm laughing at myself.

logo I'm taking the damn thing off now.

TheGruffaloMother · 03/08/2016 13:33

Yep, I only thought of that because I did it on my very first piece of flat pack Grin

Marymoosmum14 · 03/08/2016 13:33

Just because you struggle to do DIY doesn't mean you have let all women down, there are enough women that can to balance it out. I do most of the DIY in my house, my DP can do flatpacks I just do it better I enjoy doing it and I am at home more often.

ImOnMyTumbleTap · 03/08/2016 13:37

mary, I was more hacked off that I had declared my competence to my DP and thought I might have to go and take it back.

I put that title because I thought it would make people click on it. It worked. Haha. I got the help I needed and no need to go grovelling. Grin

have you looked for a YouTube video ?

logosthecat · 03/08/2016 13:46

You are through the worst! You'll finish the bookcase and it will stand as a noble testament to the fact that you are a conqueror of the chipboard, a warrior of the woodwork, a standard-bearer of the screwdriver, champion of of women everywhere!

ImOnMyTumbleTap · 03/08/2016 13:49

logo you will get a special mention in my acceptance speech when I receive the DIY award. Let's just hope the trophy isn't self assemble...

ToriaPumpkin · 03/08/2016 13:52

I nearly did the same thing with the shelf instead of a top piece. Glad you've found it now!

ParadiseCity · 03/08/2016 14:03

I'm willing you on OP!! And don't forget you can always put stuff on top of the bookcase if you need the weight/disguise at all.

NeverEverAnythingEver · 03/08/2016 14:07

OP How is it going?

(I think I'm investing too much in this. )

Okay377 · 03/08/2016 14:09

Don't worry, you weren't letting womenkind down - just yourself Grin

And now you've pulled that back so double kudos!

ImOnMyTumbleTap · 03/08/2016 14:10

I have 4 nails left on the back panel and then I have to put the shelves in. I am very grateful for all of the moral support I have had throughout this process. Grin

Looking forward to a pic of the finished article

ImOnMyTumbleTap · 03/08/2016 14:12

And the back is on!

To think I have let down every woman everywhere?

That's looking great Grin and there's nothing stopping you putting that little panel at the bottom in after if you're so inclined. Bloody good job!!

logosthecat · 03/08/2016 14:15

I am RIDICULOUSLY overinvested in this thread. I literally cheered out loud when I saw that.

You've been through a rite of passage with all of us!!
