More of a wwyd
I booked a mobile hairdresser as can never make it to salon, any ways hairdresser comes asked her for a bleach and tone as I always get she says my hairs light enough to not bleach but just 'lift' I said ok ur the hairdresser any ways she lifts it doesn't work she puts on bleach on top of this lift dye she had first put on, then Rinses then tones, hairs bright yellow she then says sorry my fault should have bleached in first place she says hi lights should fix it does hi lights roots still bright yellow so I now have bright yellow roots ash blonde ends and burns and scabs all over my head. I refused to pay her but this was before I realised the burns and the scabs they are so sore especially on the back of my neck! So now have to walk round with yellow roots till scalp heals wwyd just leave it and ask another hairdresser to fix or ask her to pay other hairdresser to fix it?

I don't think she's safe to work . I know people think 'only a hairdresser ' but they work with some pretty strong chemicals which , as you have experienced, can do an awful lot of damage .

MiscellaneousAssortment · 01/08/2016 11:42

Ouch, definitely get your scalp looked at, there might be something you can put on the worst bits to ease the pain/ help with healing.

I'd suggest getting better photos as well, as the ones here could be perceived as very mild scalp irritation - look through the eyes of someone who doesn't believe you to see how the photos could be seen! Maybe show some skin in the photo which isn't hurt (hand/arm/ fingers?), to show the colour difference so people can definitely see it's not just a bad light etc.

If she's just a one-woman band, she won't have much money if you're looking for compensation. Unless she's insured of course, but even so, they won't pay out big bucks.

I'd think about what you want out of this - immediately you need some repair to the skin damage she's done (so, gp best for that?), and also what to do about washing your hair whilst the scalp is healing... I'd suspect any normal shampoo / conditioner will sting a lot at the mo.

Then maybe some scarves / large head bands to cover the scalp damage if it's really visible to other people?

Then another, better, hair salon to give advice on styling/ hair treatments etc, to repair your colour and hair condition. They might be able to advise you even before your scalp has calmed down, and then you have a plan and perhaps a time line so you know you won't be stuck that way forever! You'll also get an idea of costs too, at the better salon/ hairdresser.

Then hopefully you'll be back to normal. Phew!

I'd cost out exactly how much that all costs, plus bus fares, and use that as your lowest figure needed. As all of that are the bare essentials that you are doing specifically to mitigate the damage she has caused.

I wouldn't do anything like posting on her fb as she'll just delete it anyway.

Leaving you toner was ridiculous by the way!

MoBro · 01/08/2016 12:12

What toner has she left you out of interest? Your hair colour looks at least very easy to fix by a half decent hairdresser once your scalp is healed.

OreosAreTasty · 01/08/2016 12:21

IF you are going to diy wait until it's healed and use a veg based semi permanent dye such as manic panic to avoid further damage.
It's sad to see but not uncommon I'm afraid as you don't need any qualifications, accreditation, checks or insurance to call yourself a hairdresser.
If going to a salon you'll probably see qualifications put on the wall somewhere, but if you don't you can ask and most hairdressers won't mind.
Mobile hairdressers are the most likely to be Cowboys.
Reviews can be faked before and after photos can also be faked.
So in order to protect yourself 1. Get word of mouth recommendations from a friend if possible. 2. Ask to see proof of insurance and qualifications. It's the best thing you can do.
What kind of products did she use?
Did she use a branded dye (such as colour xxl, l'oreal etc?) if a hairdresser is using a home kit that's a tell tale sign they're not what they say they are.
I no longer work in the beauty trade however between the ages of 15 and 23 worked in a busy city salon and unfortunately saw a LOT of this

Discobabe · 01/08/2016 12:26

I'd get someone else to fix it once healed and send her the bill. She sounds totally incompetent and you'd probably have every right to sue if you wish. If you choose not too she should consider herself very very lucky!

Doinmummy · 01/08/2016 12:26

The fact she didn't do a strand test tells me she's not a professional .

Discobabe · 01/08/2016 12:27

And she should be insured! If she's not more fool her.

AlwaysBU · 01/08/2016 14:19

Doinmummy it's getting a bit better my neck is starting to scab now so it's not as raw, still a bit sore thank you for asking! And everyone thanks for all the advice, she didn't leave the toner I told her I needed more than a toner to fix this and she stuck it back in her bag and I think she was using proper stuff I'm not too sure I didn't see a brand or anything she had a big bottle of developer and little tubes of toner I think. I also just realised today that I'm not signed up at my doctors anymore because I moved and haven't signed up at the nearest one so will have to give them a ring, I might be a bit soft but I'd feel awful suing her because she was a really nice timid young girl about 20 I think and don't think she had much money at all and she was nearly crying when she left so I'm still dithering about what to do I still haven't even text her what do I say excuse me you've burnt my scalp and neck and left my hair in a right state what are you going to do about it?? I'm really crap in these situations

Doinmummy · 01/08/2016 14:38

She knows she cocked up then .

Maybe send her a text along the lines of

Hi Shit Hairdresser , I'm really not happy with what has happened to my hair and scalp after you applied a colour and then bleach to it . I have burns to my scalp and neck and it's very painful . (Insert pics)

Once my skin has healed I will be seeking advice from an alternative hairdresser and hope they will be able to correct your mistake , and I am requesting that you will accept the bill for this as recompense for my inconvenience and pain .

Thankyou

Champagneformyrealfriends · 01/08/2016 14:50

This happened to a friend of mine-the doctors gave her something for her scalp. She didn't take any legal action but I think she ought to have done really. I'd do what doinmummy has suggested and ask her to pay for it to be put right once your skin is healed.

NatureCreatesFreaks · 01/08/2016 14:58

What benefit will you make from sueing her? How will financial gain make this better?
You're best leaving your hair for a couple weeks and then putting a darker toner on it. Then in a few months getting highlights.

I'm saying this as I sit on the sofa with home kit bleach on my hair for the 2nd time as lastnight it came out with yellow roots & ends, and brown in middle. I'm currently rebleaching the middle in home that will sort it.
I've had so many home kit disasters!

OreosAreTasty · 01/08/2016 16:42

I would definitely post something on her page as well. She sounds like a cowboy. Next time she does this to someone the consequences could be far far worse and maybe even life long (such as blindness or scarring).
It's not about money or looking good at this point, of course send the above text to her too but still warn others too

Doinmummy · 01/08/2016 17:36

Tbh , she was aware she'd cocked up big time and so should have offered some sort of remedy before she left - either offer to do it again or pay for someone else to do it .

CrushedNinjas · 01/08/2016 18:35

She should have given you a skin test at least 48 hrs beforehand. Did she offer you one?

To be honest, most experienced freelance hairdressers like myself get annoyed with people offering super cheap services mobile when they haven't really got a scooby about what they're doing. I charge what I'm worth and my clients happily pay a premium for me to come to them.

Have you seen a GP yet? They should be able to prescribe something to help with the scabbing and reduce the soreness. Definitely DO NOT attempt to DIY as you're likely to cause more problems.
I can't really see the pictures that well but the scabbing could be caused by too strong a lightener mix or it could be an allergic reaction to the toner.

Visit a couple of salons and ask for a free colour consultation. A good colourist will know what to do when your scalp has recovered and they will insist you have a skin test beforehand. If they don't, find another salon!

Clueless individuals like her are only a hair's breadth from doing serious damage with strong chemicals and probably ought to be put out of business. If she's qualified, she can still apply to work in a salon where hopefully, she'll be properly supervised and less likely to maim anyone else. Definitely get her to cover the cost of putting it right elsewhere, at the very least.

AlwaysBU · 01/08/2016 23:12

Doinmummy I text her that exact message you posted, she hasn't replied this was about 3 hours ago! I can't put anything on her Facebook page as I don't actually have a Facebook account either. She didn't offer a skin test just asked if I'd ever had a reaction to toner or tint before which I haven't as have been getting roots bleached and toned for years now and never had this happen! I haven't been to doctors yet had a hell of a day today will try get there tomorrow hopefully

I'm a home bleached blonde for many years, my mum was a hairdresser. Scalp burns happen occasionally, but make sure you get them checked out in case they get infected. She shouldn't have done your colour that way, I'd check if she was insured x

Doinmummy · 02/08/2016 12:15

I hope she has the decency to reply

AlwaysBU · 02/08/2016 12:20

She still hasn't replied, is it childish to get my sister to post a pic on her Facebook wall of awful roots with a message to her or is it better to just ask my sister to inbox her.

Sorry to hear this happened to you, I've been in a similar situation and it's a nightmare Sad
Honestly, it sounds like she has ignored your text. You've given the chance to reply with some sort of solution or compensation, which she should have done before leaving your house and she hasn't replied so I really wouldn't blame you if you posted something on her FB wall. If she doesn't want the bad review she should have at least text you back by now.

AlwaysBU · 02/08/2016 20:41

Hi marble fox, it is indeed a nightmare, never thought I'd be so stressed over hair of all things! And yeah she's definitely ignored me, I was really feeling sorry for her but now just angry at her for doing this to me and not even having the decency to reply to my text, even if she had text back saying sorry can't afford to foot the bill but can contribute I would have been fine with that tbh but nothing! And I asked my sister to post on her wall or write a review and she says she deactivated her Facebook last month, just my bluddy luck, or maybe she's shy and just doesn't want to do it idk but it's like, ok what do I do now as I sit here with my scabby nuclear head Sad

OreosAreTasty · 02/08/2016 20:52

I'll happily do it for you if no one else will.
If you want, and I don't want your really private details PM me hairdresser name, your first name and the pics you want posted.
Looking at it your hair may be fixable without much of a dye.
Purple shampoo (I'd recommend touch of silver- you can even get small bottles in pound land. Get the twice weekly brightening shampoo) you'll need a fair few long applications but once your scabs healed (MUST STRESS that fact!!!!) it may be a way to fix it a bit on the cheap. Won't be perfect by any means but a bit less like a DIY job gone wrong.

AlwaysBU · 02/08/2016 21:01

Thank you so much Oreos I know it's a bit of a strange thing to do for someone haha but I really don't know what else to do, thanks again [biggrin] I've only had mumsnet since I posted this so is it just the add message button next to your post to PM you?

It's a bit late now but in future please get a personal recommendation for a hairdresser. Anyone can write reviews on a FB page, she could easily have had her friends write hers!
