I am exhausted ALL THE BASTARD TIME!!!!!!!

I am 29. My son is 2 next month. I have a 9-5 Mon-Fri desk job. I go to bed at 10pm and get approx 7-8 hours a night (wake ups dependant). I have an underactive thyroid which is level and fine.

I am exhausted. I feel so titred all the time. It is bringing me down and making me feel worse. I have had reams of blood tests and it shows nothing amiss. I am fed up of feeling like this and have been for MONTHS.

I have a GP appointment tomorrow for a mole removal but feel it unfair to take up extra time to discuss this. But they have no pre-bookable appointments for 4 weeks.

I can't handle this anymore.

cjt I basically followed a Paleo diet although I still ate rice and oats (gluten isn't my issue) and I could tolerate spelt flour so we began to make our own spelt bread.

The diet was easy to follow as I was so desperate I would have tried anything! I ate lots of homemade soups, casseroles, salads and then avoided regular bread, cakes, sweets and biscuits. Breakfast was often eggs in some form, snacks would be apples chopped up and spread with sugar free nut butters, lunches would be soups and dinners were proper meals just no pasta or bread. I've even made cauliflower crust pizza and that's nice. I avoided all sugar including maple syrup and honey. I began on Goood Friday so it was pretty difficult saying no to chocolate eggs but like I said I was so desperate I would have tried anything and actually a couple of weeks in and I felt so much better I carried on.

I've fallen off the wagon recently and do feel the worse for it. When I had an afternoon tea about three months after I began the diet I noticed that for about three days afterwards I felt utterly exhausted and almost hungover. It was just how I had felt when I was at my worst. It seems that when I am eating well and then have a slip my body does not cope at all. Hmm think I need to follow my own advice again.

I've pretty much cut carbs out of my diet and feel better for it. When i do have a carb binge, i feel exhausted and heavy.

Get checked for coeliac disease before you go off wheat. Once off it you get false negatives and then never really know. It does go with chronic tiredness and autoimmune thyroid disease (although it sounds like your thyroid problems are more complex)

So I have spoken with my GP and am alternating my dose of thyroxine 50/75/50/75 etc. Hoping it might help. Have been tested before for Coeliac disease and nope, wasn't that.

That's a good start.
I am hypothroid and I feel best when my tsh is surpressed ( close to zero) and taking a combination of levothyroxine and liothyronine which is pestered my endo to prescribe me.

In order for your medication to be effective and for you to feel well you need to have a good level of ferritin/ b12/ vitamin d as hypothyroidism can lead to low levels. I take sublingual b12, vitamin d ( I would anyway as I am currently breastfeeding) and floradix for iron.

Diet and reduction in stress will help but only if the medication is working properly or you are on the right dose/ combination. If you don't feel any improvement you should ask to be referred to an endocrinologist.

Hopefully you'll feel an improvement if you tackle your thyroid disease. It's normal to feel tired when working and looking after young children but the kind of fatigue you are experiencing isn't tiredness or even exhaustion. It's absolutely horrific but hopefully you can feel a little better soon.

Have you had your t3 tested OP? I felt horrendous with my under active thyroid took me 4 years of asking for t3 to be tested, went private instead and I'm on NDT instead of Levo. Feel humane again now!

Corabell IIRC, when I had my levels checked pre diagnosis due to family history, my TSH was say 0.6-0.8 so very low in the "normal" range. I guess taking more thyroxine would suppress the creation of TSH?

I have asked and bought a multivitamin from the pharmacy which I am hoping will help. It has B6, B12, Iron and Vitamin D in it.

Chamonix1 I'm not sure. I've had so many blood tests I could well have had it tested! Can you talk to me about NDT? I am in UK and am unsure how I would access this?

I am currently beginning a meat and dairy free diet to see if it helps. I may well venture into wheat free too.

What is it now?

You're lucky to have a previous normal range of your own to reference.

That is very low TSH.

You could be well within the guidance "normal" range and have far higher TSH levels than that.

I need to keep mine between 1 and 2.

I am severely symptomatic (as you describe) at 2.5.

But that is well within the normal range.

I needed to see an Endo.

I would be careful of eliminating meat as you will jeopardise your iron and vitamin levels. Please discuss with your doctor as they will need to know this to carry on treating you effectively. There are all sorts of bizarre theories about diet and most of them have no basis in science.

2.9 sounds very high when your pre-illness level was 0.8.

What happened the last time you went to 75?

Did you become hyper?

It seems unlikely with TSH at 2.9.

I was initially on 100mg Doin when diagnosed in Jan 2015. A check later all was fine. Then some time after, I began to feel exhausted etc again. Tested and advised to drop to 75. Some time later again was feeling exhausted. Tested and was borderline so I asked could I try dropping to 50. I felt great after a while but now feel like utter shit again.

If Im honest, I dont quite understand it all. I assume because I am upping/alternating my throxine, the TSH would drop, therefore I might feel better?

Have spoken with the Drs receptionist and have asked her to ask the DR to send me to see an endo. I can't go on like this. I know that sounds melodramatic but its awful Sad

I really think you are right to see an endo.

You have a complicated history and are not well.

You don't sound melodramatic.

You have a right to have this taken seriously and treated.

Hoping he refers me. Silly thing is they will only send a message to the Dr you saw. And that Dr is part of the PCT and as such isn't always there.

It might be worth posting on thyroid uk/ health unlocked . I realise now that you have an issue with your pituitary gland as well, which may make your condition more complex.

Do you have hashimoto's disease ( autoimmune)?

TSH should go down as the levo dose is increased
