Random I know - is Disney worth it ?

We went when the kids were 8,6,4 and I remember it being horribly expensive, a bit stressful but yes fun with the Ariel photos etc and we loved discovery bay with the Dolphins.
I have an additional child now that never been aged 6, he loved Lego land and they all really enjoyed Disney Paris at Halloween last year.
I'm trying to talk myself into booking but god it's a lot of money isn't it? I'm looking at £6000 for a fortnight I think being conservative and not eating in Disney ever

You really could Mother of dragons, Mark Warner is £2500 this October for us if I was inclined

You can buy the magic your way disney tickets if you just want a couple of days disney - try undercover tourist. Or if you go October just do the halloween party for a bit of disney, gets you in from 4pm - midnight into magic kingdom.

Discovery cove is very expensive £178 each - we've never done it. Included tickets for seaworld and busch and aquatica. Cheapest i've seen it was during seaworld's black friday sale but even then was too dear for me to be tempted.

Pisssssedofff · 26/07/2016 15:40

Is it really that much? Ouch. I'm not happy to go to sea world but aquatica looks amazing assuming it's still warm enough in October and bush gardens would be another day out.

$1200 for the day at discovery 😳😳😳😳
There has to be cheaper places to swim with dolphins

Absolutely worth every penny! I can't wait to go back next year with my DS.

ohdearme1958 · 26/07/2016 15:54

Sorry - we don't do the Dolphin Shows and the likes. Id rather they weren't in captivity

Pisssssedofff · 26/07/2016 15:59

I hear you, we tried to see them in the wild but they kept swimming off funnily enough

We are staying at a universal hotel for a week to skip the big queues at the parks and two weeks in a villa

1st time we went it was about 6.5k (out of season) then 10k two years ago it was 12k...god knows how much it will be this year

But that includes a car for two weeks, two weeks of universal tickets and two weeks of disney tickets and we eat out all the time ...we keep thinking its the last time we are going so lets push the boat out (then rebooking)

Last two years included Discovery cove , not doing the cove this year

ohdearme1958 · 26/07/2016 16:00

My previous post vanished - so

I go every two years with my brother and his wife. We're all the wrong side of 50 at 55, 57, 58. We go to the parks every day for two weeks but not all day. I love it. But in between trips I have no interest in Disney at all. It really can just be a fabulous experience without any brainwashing re buying into a dream.

RufusTheReindeer · 26/07/2016 16:00

pis

There used to be a place in the keys that dolphins swam into and "performed" if they wanted to, i think you could swim with them if you, and they wanted, to

I dont know if it still exists

Grumpyoldblonde · 26/07/2016 16:01

I am an old cynicky boots and thought I would hate it, best money I ever spent, whole thing cost 10K in all and worth every cent. We had fabulous days and experiences, Universal is fantastic, loved Kennedy - whole thing was amazing.

RufusTheReindeer · 26/07/2016 16:02

Going high season makes all the difference price wise

And our half terms are only a week

We have a vague plan about going in three years when they have all left school...should be so much cheaper

Pisssssedofff · 26/07/2016 16:07

Was discovery worth it ?

pointythings · 26/07/2016 16:11

We went in 2013, spent a total of about £9k (including all food and souvenir shopping, and we didn't stint ourselves) and yes, it was worth every penny. We are thinking of going again in DD1's A-level year for one last blowout.

NeedACleverNN · 26/07/2016 16:12

I've done discovery cove.

Swimming with the Dolphins is extra(which we did) but you can swim with the fish around a reef, paddle with rays, go through an aviary and there's a swimming path you can do around the park with things under water to look at aswell as your normal pools

Catanddogmake6 · 26/07/2016 16:15

Another one looking at WDW for next year. Your advice about October time seems good (especially as my two times in Florida have coincided with serious hurricanes). Anyone got any good suggestions about splitting the vacation - so one week WDW and one week somewhere else. Preferably somewhere with a suite or villa rather than all being stuck in a hotel room. Everywhere I've looked at for the second week seems to have huge transfer times or huge hotels which would mean being cramped in small rooms or sat round crowded pools. Am struggling for ideas.

Dixiechickonhols · 26/07/2016 16:39

Anna Maria Island on gulf coast is beautiful and no high rises.

Other option is to have 2 weeks in a nice villa in Orlando and have plenty of rest/pool time. Accommodation is much cheaper there, could do a day trip to kennedy and gulf cost beach like clearwater. Rather than 1 full on week and one beach week.

redhat · 26/07/2016 16:52

discovery cove is lovely but not worth £1200 IMO

Catanddogmake6 · 26/07/2016 16:57

Thanks DixieChick. Will have a look. Had wondered about the villa but DH has said if we are doing Disney we are doing it full on and staying in one of their hotels. He also wants to do Kennedy Space centre as well. Oh and all for the bargain price of £2.50 and could I book it and let him know the dates. Grrr. Oh well guess who will be taking the DDs to the Bibbidity Bobbidity Boutique. 😊

lessthanBeau · 26/07/2016 16:59

Worth every penny, join the dibb forum for money saving tips, but be prepared to pay the price of a small car!
We've been 6 times over 16 years my son even went to work there for a year! , 7th trip planned for 2019 so we can scatter some if my dbs ashes there, he was a big Florida fan too.
It's not just Disney, the coast is amazing, but for a first trip you'll need the full two weeks for the parks. Top tip get a villa with pool or a condo not hotels. Much better Value for money.
Id go every year if I could afford it!

Mrs5boys · 26/07/2016 17:07

If you go can you take me in your suitcase 😝😝😝

RufusTheReindeer · 26/07/2016 17:57

Discovery cove - the water is fucking freezing but the food and drinks and snacks are free

Discovered the beer was free on my second trip...started drinking much earlier than usual that morning Grin

the children and dh loved it the first time and it was well worth the price, but they didnt enjoy it so much the second time...i loved it the second time

Notso · 26/07/2016 18:03

Twice we have saved to go to Disney and twice we have chickened out. I just don't see how it can be worth it for us.

Pisssssedofff · 26/07/2016 18:45

Surely the swim with dolphins is included in the $1200 that can't seriously be extra 😳

OP posts:
Pisssssedofff · 26/07/2016 18:46

This is the thing Notso, I wouldn't have to save for it, I think if I had to I would think twice, I'm being treated sort of
