to ask you for a motherload of heartwarming, tearjerking, cosy things to watch, in deference to DP's mildly pregnant hormones?

Yes, including things with new babies if you would like. I want to find a load of nice, sweet, soppy films and TV things, because at the moment she can't cope with gritty realism. She's not big into stuff like Call the Midwife but she made me watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks at Christmas, so if there are good classic films we might not have seen, those would be great.

Thank you!

Fried Green Tomatoes at the WhistleStop Cafe is my 'go-to' for that sort of thing.

But I also recommend Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for lots of giggles and heartwarming stuffs.

Salmotrutta · 25/07/2016 23:58

Oh god yes - "Fried Green Tomatoes" is one of my favourite films SadSmile

And here's a curve ball to bamboozle you - "Winter's Bone".

And - "The Field" ... (with Richard Harriis and Sean Bean)

Watch 'Marvellous' It's the most lovable, happy-making film, brilliantly acted and a true story.

seventhgonickname · 26/07/2016 00:05

I will add Sleepless in Seattle,The Secret Garden and Stardust.

seventhgonickname · 26/07/2016 00:07

Seem to remember sobbing at Terminator2 as well.

Mozismyhero · 26/07/2016 00:12

Harvey. His girl Friday. Sabrina. It happened one night.

PickAChew · 26/07/2016 00:38

Marvellous needs tissues. Many tissues.

I was completely unflappable until I got pregnant for the first time. Now fucking CBBC makes me blub, sometimes.

Aren't you lovely to be asking this!

And some lovely recommendations.

I'd add
Greece
Dirty Dancing (NO ONE puts Baby in the corner!)
and Wild (which I thought was out-the-blocks amazing, but don't think many people saw it, but it's all about how much you love your mum!)

Don't watch Lion King if preggers - it'll make you sob and want to compose rants to Disney.

(sorry for my use of word "preggers")

whatamockerywemake · 26/07/2016 02:18

And also

Truly Madly Deeply.

Love that film!

Planes trains and automobiles has a very funny, but very sweary scene at the airport. May not be appropriate for little ones.

littleprincesssara · 26/07/2016 02:40

When I saw Dolphin Tale 2 on a plane the 1-year-old I was sitting next to nearly complained that I was crying too much.

It's about a disabled dolphin who is lonely and a plucky young girl's attempts to rescue his friend.

Oh God I'm welling up typing this.

Dead Poet's Society

Anonymouses · 26/07/2016 03:11

I watched zoolander 2 today. I actually snorted (on a plane. It wasn't pretty) or just google Justin biebers cameo. Guaranteed feel good for me!

Meet the Fockers, Little Fockers, Blended & The Wedding Singer.

The Mirror has Two Faces

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 26/07/2016 06:50

The Fokkers films? Especially the second one where they have the new baby.

The Night at a Museum films - especially the first with the father/son bonding subplot.

When I was pregnant with DD I sobbed buckets at an 82 year old man auditioning for the X-factor! So much DH turned the tv off!

This time round I've been slightly traumatised by the start of Finding Nemo & Up.

Love the Gilmore Girls though.

Champagneformyrealfriends · 26/07/2016 08:26

Another vote for Gilmore girls. I've just binged watched all 7 series.
Pretty Little Liars is trashy and addictive too.

Mouseinahole · 26/07/2016 08:28

What We Did on Our Holiday with Billy Connolly is very funny, very sad and our family's current favourite film.
