Should Mumsnet forum users be allowed to Swear!

cakelover14 · 23/07/2016 18:54

No offence I enjoy reading the discussions on this board but why do mums really feel the need to swear in their posts! What kind of example are we setting as mums if we can't control the use of our tongues and use language that is obscene.

Mumsnet - why is it not your policy to remove swear words from posts? saying we are all adults doesn't excuse the use of foul language! I am sure I cannot be the only mumsnet user who doesn't want to read swear words every five seconds. It makes me close a thread and stop reading what otherwise could be an interesting read.

All I can say is no wonder every time I go the playground with my kids I hear young children using foul language when parents can't even control their tongues anymore! Unfortunately I agree the world is full of people who swear but as mums should we not take the lead in setting a good example for the next generation???

I actually agree with the Op. No need for so much of it and of course children can read Mumsnet, it isn't password protected!

hidingwithwine · 23/07/2016 19:55

I am pissing myself laughing here reading this. Every time use of swear words crops up in an OP everyone jumps in to prove the point.

As a mum of 3 well brought up, polite and thoughtful dcs, they don't read this forum and I don't swear around them.

Unclutch your pearls, OP

BringingYoniBack · 23/07/2016 19:56

hotdiggedy nor is porn.

If DD can read this then it's a fucking miracle. She's 6 months old.

PresidentOliviaMumsnet · 23/07/2016 19:57

AHEM .
it is ONE THING to list your lascivious library of fucking favourite wankbadgering cluster nuggets cursewords
it is QUITE ANOTHER to be telling another Mumsnetter to fuck the fuck off
Or call them a cunt. Shock

It is deemed by us to be a personal attack - you wouldn't like it if it happened in RL so don't do it the fuck here please.
Bit of fucking peace and love, eh?

RubyGoat · 23/07/2016 19:58

Surely we have bigger things to worry about? Like the state of the economy, the possibility of international hostilities descending into a 3rd world war, whether my DD will like school, how will I pay off my credit card, etc...

A few four letter words on a screen...meh. And no, I generally don't swear. But I'm also an adult & I can choose not to let it bother me.

PovertyPain · 23/07/2016 19:58

This is my favourite song. I so want to be able to sing so I can sing to my neighbours.

Thanks for starting this OP! I learned a new word!

StrangeLookingParasite · 23/07/2016 19:58

What a shame that none of you seem to be able to construct a reply without swearing and been offensive

What a shame you seem to have neither a sense of humour nor irony.

Are you this prissy to everyone, all the time?

BringingYoniBack · 23/07/2016 20:00

Olivia you turned me on a little there.

e1y1 · 23/07/2016 20:01

Would honestly recommend Netmums.

They're posh bitches ladies over there.

Grin
paxillin · 23/07/2016 20:02

Hi, I'm pax and I'm new here. I see there are 9 million others here already. 8 million of you swear! Now if only you 8 million potty mouths could change, you can have one more happy member! We'll be 9,000,001! Deal? Fucking hell, join a club with rules that are ok for you or start your own.

PinkyofPie · 23/07/2016 20:02

What kind of example are we setting as mums if we can't control the use of our tongues

Does this mean I'm no longer allowed to lick my phone as I type swear words? Fuck that

RortyCrankle · 23/07/2016 20:03

I'm going to be original on this thread and not swear Grin

We don't need a forum mummy thank you.

If you don't like it the door is -------> that way.

MangoMoon · 23/07/2016 20:04

For you OP Grin

pointythings · 23/07/2016 20:05

I think we should all set a good example by expanding their vocabulary in all its aspects, including that of profanity. Therefore it is a Good Thing for them to learn terms like 'cockwomble' and 'wankpuffin'.

This makes me a Good Parent.

HTT, OP.

mrsC4 · 23/07/2016 20:05

m.youtube.com/watch?v=0doSWS0Fj24 you'll love this

plominoagain · 23/07/2016 20:07

I am able to construct a reply without swearing or BEING offensive .

I just fucking choose not to .

Wasn't there a study published in a language sciences journal that showed that those with a more extravagant use of swearing actually had a more extensive vocabulary ? Explains the difference between Mumsnet and Nethuns ....

fastdaytears · 23/07/2016 20:07

My first deletion! Sorry Olivia and sorry OP.

You're still wrong but I should not have told you to do the thing I told you to do. Flowers

plominoagain · 23/07/2016 20:08

Magnum , thank you ! I wasn't imagining it .

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/07/2016 20:08

Another song for you, Cakelover - Pee, Po Belly Bum Drawers by Flanders and Swann.

My favourite lines:
"Disney is planning a double bill
Pee, po, belly bum drawers.
Christopher Robin meets Fanny Hill
........
........
Pooh Bear, belly, bum, drawers!!"

MrsHathaway · 23/07/2016 20:11

To be serious for a moment, I don't swear in front of my children, nor do I tolerate their saying anything even as vulgar as "bum", because they're children.

I have, however, had a long conversation with pfb about taboo language, and Anglo Saxon and its position relative to Anglo Norman French in the Middle Ages, and the difference between giving and taking offence, the result of which was his solemnly agreeing to tailor his language to his audience.

I'm available for hire. Astonishing that some adults haven't grasped this concept that my son managed at six.

Neome · 23/07/2016 20:12

Seeing the title on active I thought Wtf!

But no, an absolutely inspired idea for a thread, I've only read half of it and am laughing my head off. Flippin' 'eck (Tucker)

Must give into classics surely (if there's any bloomin justice in the world.

Love and peace OP.

KittensWithWeapons · 23/07/2016 20:14

Well I'm not a Mum so presumably I can swear my motherfucking arse off. The only things I'm a bad fucking influence on are the cats. And if cats could talk they'd be the sweariest cunts on the go.

It really takes a special arrogance to come on to a forum where everyone is happy with how things are and say 'no! I don't like how you converse. Change! You all must do things my way'. Bloody annoying.
