At the end of the year dds school does various Awards. Most do not involve a certificate but your name appears in the newsletter.
Well my Dd received 5 Awards but on 3 of these her name was spelt wrong.
Now I know this is trivial and the end of term is busy and the odd error is expected.
However to me this is a bit sloppy.

FuckingCoat - there really is no such thing as a 'average school office assistant'. really. In our office of 3, there is a 65-yo whose skill is that she has been there 30 years, knows the kids, staff and school and its place in the community she's lived in since birth (ex-pupil): One 40Yo who came for a job as TA, got drafted into the office as admin, and is now HT PA; also knows the school 100% (ex-pupil) and Me, accounts, personnel, admin, first aid, systems, exTA. As I said, it's not the job, it's the person.

You really don't rate schools much, do you? So dismissive of it all.

OP - I'm really sorry you are so upset by it, it is obv a big thing for you. BUT, mistakes do get made, even fuckingCoat admits it. I've said already, that I'm sure if you take it in in Sept, it will be amended. End of.

HeyRobot · 25/07/2016 10:10

OP doesn't sound 'upset' from her posts. She said it's a bit poor. It's a little disappointing.

My friend Caroline works in a school office ano does loads of extra stuff for the school because she is really dedicated. In the programme for the school play that she played the piano for they thanked Carolyn and she was disappointed because she'd put in so many hours and felt like her effort wasn't worth even getting her name right.

Taking care with details like this are how we show we care. I don't think she was wrong to feel a bit undervalued. Neither is OP.

GBS: Right, so all we have established is your predilection for stalking people on the Internet. You may, therefore, wish to be less confident in your assertion that I do not care about my pupils, seeing as you admit that you know nothing about me.

  1. I admitted that I knew nothing about you so I tried to gain some knowledge. I went looking for that knowledge precisely because I knew nothing about you.
  2. I thought teachers liked 'point, evidence, explain'. You don't like your history being used against you so you prefer to dismiss it as 'stalking'.
  3. The evidence I obtained was in addition to knowledge already obtained off this thread viz when numerous others say that misspelling of names is upsetting then you dismiss their concerns or when Apple asked you explain something that is within your expertise then you refused to help her. (Refused, because you are not a nice person? Or can't, because you are not who you claim to be?)

I am still confident in my assertion: you do not come across as a caring person. I'm sure that you think that you are the bees knees but your posts go against you.

You don't like losing an argument so you resort to insults instead. Very mature and professional.

They aren't assumptions btw. They are your posts that are telling against you.
Several posters have made comments and you have haughtily dismissed them, too. You don't seem very good at accepting criticism.

Wow. 9 pages on a thread which apparently was too trivial to even start a thread about hey Pearlman.
Ptumbi was that your apology for inferring the mistake was due to me picking a quirky spelling of a forename?Something which couldn't be further from the truth.
At least I know you are not Head of English in Dd's school. She has no time for errors both spoken and written.

She won't let go but I'm bored of her teacher-knows-best attitude.

Well done Pearlman. You win the internet

GeorgeBernardShaw:

I have had some conversation with Pearlman on this thread and disagreed about the topic.

You are going too far, however. One of the most annoying things people like you do is claim that other posters are not who they say they are. Your behaviour is deeply unpleasant and your allegations clearly without foundation. Get a grip.

ailith · 25/07/2016 11:16

GBS:
Seems you don't like teachers!! That's the real issue! Grin

Highlandfling80 · 25/07/2016 11:18

Gbs it is ironic that she's so invested in a thread she thought was too trivial for me to even start.
Anyway I was going to let it go. I was not so very upset. However maybe I should turn up on 6th September with the list of newsletters I want correcting and the certificates as I am sure I can find more.

I see the thread has continued on its strange, meandering path.

The reason you've had a hard time on this thread, Pearlman, is that we count on English teachers to maintain relentlessly high standards.

The day that students walk out of their English classrooms for the last time is realistically the apex of SPAG skills for a goodly amount of them - why not let them walk away with the lasting impression of an English teacher who wouldn't accept a misspelled surname, eh?

DocBunny · 25/07/2016 11:55

I have a forename AND a surname that are frequently spelt wrong. They are not that unusual or complicated. Even if they were I would probably still find it insulting. It smacks of 'who gives a shit? You don't matter.' I don't believe for a moment that they don't have time to check.

A school should certainly hold itself to higher standards, not only of spelling but also of respecting others, which means respecting identities. Names are integral to identity, particularly in children. I have a very hectic and unpredictable job with numerous clients and constant write-ups. If I made that kind of error, especially more than once, I would be mortified!

If they don't think spelling is important then they should stay away from jobs in the educational system. We can and should do better.

AppleSetsSail · 25/07/2016 12:40

I think it's just a teensy bit patronising to suggest that admin staff can't be relied upon to spell names correctly, or indeed write error-free newsletters.

Highlandfling80 · 25/07/2016 12:58

It is not the admin staff at fault. Subject heads give to names to admin staff to type. Some of these subject heads seem able to get it right. Others get it wrong every time.

FFS I have not even mentioned it to my child. I started a trivial thread which would have died long ago if certain people stopped coming back to have another dig.
