To think this is a bit poor.

At the end of the year dds school does various Awards. Most do not involve a certificate but your name appears in the newsletter.
Well my Dd received 5 Awards but on 3 of these her name was spelt wrong.
Now I know this is trivial and the end of term is busy and the odd error is expected.
However to me this is a bit sloppy.

You also have to wonder, if they're making careless errors so frequently while transcribing words that are set in front of them - are they transcribing children's marks and exam results faithfully? Attention to detail is attention to detail - whether it's a name, or a number, or an exam result.

I think Pearlman must be an office lackey hence the reaction. The fault will not lie with the teacher/s, I feel, but with the lackey whose job it is to process "the paperwork".

Might want to reconsider a few of those comma (mis)placements then, Apple. Customers can be very judgemental

I think I already mentioned how silly it is to trawl MN for spelling errors being that this is an internet forum, but I strongly suggest you refresh your understanding of comma usage.

"...if we all took the humo..."

Priceless. Lol

OK, will you point out my errant comma(s) then, please? I'd really appreciate it.

You can tell when someone's spelled your name wrong. You'll never know if they've written down your exam result incorrectly. If someone's sloppy across the board (i.e. spelling a child's name 3 different types of wrong in one sitting), how will we ever know for certain that they pay more attention to the important documents? If they don't double-check award certificates that go out to parents (who will nitpick! Surely they must know that!), what reason would we have to believe they'd double-check exam results?

AppleSetsSail · 24/07/2016 11:49

I'm troubled that a Head of English for a secondary school takes a soft line on misspellings in school correspondence.

Hang on. Is it possible that there aren't any misplaced commas in my post?

ailith · 24/07/2016 11:51

Pearlman:

You are Head of English? So what? There are Heads of English and there are Heads of English. Is that meant to be done sort of badge of honour? Lol

You are ridiculous.

Apple, there are a couple of comma splices in your posts. Pearlman is still being a twat.

ailith · 24/07/2016 11:52

...some sort of badge...

Mea culpa.

Apple:
Indeed. It is troubling and a very odd stance to take.

ailith · 24/07/2016 11:55

"I know how to place a comma."
Are you really sure, Pearlman? The evidence would suggest otherwise.
