Dogs on buses near babies

Just to be clear, this isn't a goady thread about dogs and I don't hate dogs. Interested in others opinions as I have to take the bus daily!

I think owners should keep them away from prams and only take them on buses if there's plenty of space! AIBU?

Today, coming back from a long walk at a local beauty spot, someone plonked their husky-type dog right next to DS in his pram (pram was in the area with fold-up seats, 2 other prams opposite). As dog was on eye level with 10-month DS I asked him to move the dog. He assured me dog 'won't hurt him' but I said I'd rather not take the risk thanks, especially as DS will try to grab anything furry and interesting. He reluctantly moved dog into the aisle, where it meandered around on the end of a long lead, sniffing people and getting in everyone's way.

I've had similar with someone's dog licking my ankle on the bus, owner didn't seem to think it mattered Confused

Did I overreact or AIBR to think dogs should be kept on a short lead on buses, sitting next to their owner, away from babies/small children?

Is anyone else tempted to lick someone's ankle on the bus?

I would be livid if a dog licked me

Grin

Can I make this my new user name or is it too long?

Schwabischeweihnachtskanne · 22/07/2016 21:14

Well quite littleprincess

Shock Umbongo

:o honking that's quite different though as everyone had enough space to be friendly about it!

Apparently there were over 7000 hospital admissions for dog attacks in 2014-15... can't find any statistics on attacks by babies (except for the USA where toddlers shoot several people dead each year... Don't sit next to a toddler on an American bus, take your chances with the dog there...)

Navy yes the adult humans are equal, but the dog and the baby are not. A baby is a human and has more rights than a dog, as well as being less dangerous.

Lurkedforever1 · 22/07/2016 21:22

And of those 7000 how many involved dogs in a public place attacking strangers who were minding their own business?

How many people were treated after attacks by other adults? Shall we ban adults from buses too?

IHateDoors · 22/07/2016 21:23

Most "dogs in prams" are blind or can't walk. Their owners get them a way to get about and see and smell the world despite their disabilities. No need for the snarky shit.

SalemSaberhagen · 22/07/2016 21:25

I'm glad people being bothered by being licked by a dog is so amusing to you fiona. Particularly as 2 of those people mentioned on this thread have additional needs.

GipsyDanger · 22/07/2016 21:26

Seriously, give yourselves a shake people - every dog is capable of biting, your pweshis bayybee is not human, no matter how many daft coats you put on it Grin

ihatedoors ive seen a couple of wee dogs in prams and while it made me chuckle i know that the dog wasnt able to move as my dog does and its sweet that the owner did that for their dog so they were able to be outside for a bit too

YANBU. Dog owners assume everyone loves dogs. They get right on my wick!

I grew up with dogs and love them, personally. But my DP is scared of them.

GipsyDanger · 22/07/2016 21:32

Navy ... Well maybe really enthusiastic gumming then Grin doggie dentures?

Schwabischeweihnachtskanne · 22/07/2016 21:33

NavyandWhite many bus companies actually state very clearly in their T&C that they only carry dogs (aside from assistance dogs) at driver discretion and can refuse to carry a dog for any or theoretically no reason and especially if it is causing a nuicence to other passengers. They can refuse to carry the pram too if there isn't space. They can not refuse to carry the baby though - suggesting the adult with the dog and the adult with the baby do not actually have identical right to ride the bus when with their dog/ child.

GipsyDanger · 22/07/2016 21:34

Actual tears rolling down my face picturing this dog gumming away on someone's hairy leg 😂

Wyldfyre · 22/07/2016 21:35

Harry a lot of parents assume everyone likes children.

Also my DDog is shit scared of (most) children but I'm not screaming for them to be banned from places they are perfectly entitled to be.

PunkrockerGirl · 22/07/2016 21:35

If the dog isn't under control and is sniffing round/licking other people in spite of being asked not to, for very valid reasons, then I think the dog owner forfeits their righte

RestlessTraveller · 22/07/2016 21:39

The last time I was on public transport the child on his mums knee next to me threw up all over me. Would I have been right to demand they were thrown off the bus?

FionaThePrincess · 22/07/2016 21:39

Ah, there's a bit of a difference between "livid" and "bothered". If the post had said "I'd be bothered if a dog licked me" then I wouldn't have laughed half as much.

No of course not. You can only demand such a thing of the child had licked you.

FionaThePrincess · 22/07/2016 21:41

*if, not of

SoupDragon · 22/07/2016 21:42

Is it Goady Fucker Friday today?

RestlessTraveller · 22/07/2016 21:42
