Dogs on buses near babies

Just to be clear, this isn't a goady thread about dogs and I don't hate dogs. Interested in others opinions as I have to take the bus daily!

I think owners should keep them away from prams and only take them on buses if there's plenty of space! AIBU?

Today, coming back from a long walk at a local beauty spot, someone plonked their husky-type dog right next to DS in his pram (pram was in the area with fold-up seats, 2 other prams opposite). As dog was on eye level with 10-month DS I asked him to move the dog. He assured me dog 'won't hurt him' but I said I'd rather not take the risk thanks, especially as DS will try to grab anything furry and interesting. He reluctantly moved dog into the aisle, where it meandered around on the end of a long lead, sniffing people and getting in everyone's way.

I've had similar with someone's dog licking my ankle on the bus, owner didn't seem to think it mattered Confused

Did I overreact or AIBR to think dogs should be kept on a short lead on buses, sitting next to their owner, away from babies/small children?

Maybe have a look at the links posted by GreenGrass, you might be surprised.

So there were three people with children in prams taking up who knows how much space.

Someone gets on with a dog and heads for a space so the dog can be out of the way of everyone.

You ask the owner to move, he does and then you are upset because it is in the aisle and not sitting quietly.

You could have folded the pram and sat on one of the fold down seats with your child on your knee and you want to know if you are being unreasonable?

But this reminds me of a time in London, weather was like it is now and I was on the Northern line, for those of you not in London the old trains on this line had back to back seats, a bit like you get on trains.

Been on the tube about 5 mins when I feel a lick on the back of my neck. Now odd things happen on tube trains so I turned round to shout the pervert out to look in to the brown eye of a boarder collie.

His owner was apologetic and we both laughed.

WaitrosePigeon · 23/07/2016 09:03

Why on earth would I put my dog through that? He wouldn't react but I wouldn't put him through abuse on purpose. Stupid analogy.

Fucking batshit comments on this thread - Hysterics R Us

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 09:08

I'm so glad I don't encounter these attitudes IRL.

Only on mn do I see the "all dogs should be muzzled and confined to their garden in case they bite" Hmm

There are millions of dogs and only a small percentage have bitten.

There are more murders, rapes and cases of paedophilia then there are dog bites.

Should we keep all humans confined in case they do something?

WaitrosePigeon · 23/07/2016 09:09

Hysterics R Us

I'm done that is so funny

WaitrosePigeon · 23/07/2016 09:09

I think we should muzzle humans with the shite they come out with tbh Need

Only on MN!

EmpressOfTheVaginaDentata · 23/07/2016 09:12

If a dog licked me on public transport I'd be delighted and give it a stroke.

WaitrosePigeon · 23/07/2016 09:13

Honestly though I never hear of all this drooling and slobbering and licking etc. I think half of these stories are embellished for effect.

SurfBored73 · 23/07/2016 09:14

Re: question about your dog in a room - try to take your subjectivity out of it. It's not about your dog being hurt it's about how it would react.

Navy, you're making demands about news stories of children being mauled and killed and another PP said 'murderous' which is completely missing the point. Have you even read the articles? The results weren't made up. Reign it in and consider the simple question - do dogs bite? There is only one answer. I don't understand your denial.

notamummy10 · 23/07/2016 09:14

a lot of people that not everyone likes their dog

I love dogs... It's people I have an issue with!

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 09:14

The only dogs I see drooling are drooling dogs. Like St Bernard's. Now they drool.

Mind you my ds could put them to shame at the moment Hmm

WaitrosePigeon · 23/07/2016 09:14

Some dogs bite, mine wouldn't.

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 09:17

All dogs have the potential to bite. They have teeth they can bite.

Just like humans, cats, rabbits, Guinea pigs, hamsters, nice, rats, foxes, badgers, squirrels and oh yeah any animal with teeth!

Does that mean they will bite? No.

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 09:17

Mice* not nice

SurfBored73 · 23/07/2016 09:17

Waitrose, are you now saying dogs don't lick? Give me strength.

WaitrosePigeon · 23/07/2016 09:19

Of course dogs lick, just not the silly extremes mentioned in this thread.

Dogs will lick their "pack members". They might lick someone who comes over and fusses them.

They don't go charging after everyone adamant that everyone needs a good wash

NedStarksHead · 23/07/2016 09:22

Why do so many people have grabby children?
Teach your kids not to unnecessarily grab animals?!?

Yes, flame me whatever but it's not fucking hard to give your kid a stern talking to when they're old enough (mine is 2.5 and would never approach a dog without asking, let alone grab at its fucking ears)
If your kid isn't old enough place yourself between the dog and the kid, problem solved & everyone's happy except you cause you're clearly miserable about dogs

SurfBored73 · 23/07/2016 09:22

NeedacleverNN, it's precisely that potential that worries people and the fact that dogs have been known to bite. It cannot be denied.

NeedACleverNN · 23/07/2016 09:24

Do you run screaming from rabbits?

Cos they have teeth and the potential to bite. And they fucking hurt when they bite.

Why are dogs any different?
