She is about to go into year nine (13-14 year olds) at a new secondary. She has sen and is quite young for her age.

She really wants this www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/3687365.htm but aibu to be a bit worried they will think it babyish? I think the cool bag sticker comes off so just the actual bag I think.

I was expecting Peppa Pig or something. I think that's lovely!

I'm not sure how many secondary school kids actually carry their lunch in a separate bag though, I kind of agree with those that say she'd probably be better off with a plastic box to throw in her bag. (Back in the day I used to have my lunch in a supermarket carrier bag - before they cost 5p - so there was even less bulk and it could be thrown away afterwards without traipsing back to my locker and wasting lunchtime).

RepentAtLeisure · 22/07/2016 16:40

Get her that one, and then a plain coloured plastic box. If she starts to get grief over the one she likes, she can switch.

Christine88 · 22/07/2016 16:48

Minus the sticker id probably use that! And if it's what she wants then what's the problem!
As a teenager I was too worried about what everyone else thought I never did what I wanted! Wish I hadn't been so worried as I might have enjoyed myself a bit more

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 22/07/2016 16:51

I think it's great. I can understand your concern as a parent that she's already getting bullied, but bullies will find anything to pick on someone about, so her having something that she'll like and wants outweighs that really.

Satchels are in and I think it looks rather cool actually!

youarenotkiddingme · 22/07/2016 17:04

I love that - I need a new lunchbox so may buy myself one Grin

I understand your concerns. My DS, 11, is autistic and gets bullied. Yiu want to protect them. But sadly he becomes a target because he's vunerable and not because of what he does or doesn't have.

It would better IMO to teach your DD how to stand up for what she believes in and to have her won mind than to spend her life trying to be something she isn't just to avoid being bullied.

Dogsandcats123 · 22/07/2016 17:07

Nothing wrong with it at all. I'm almost 18 and in year 11 I had a my little pony water bottle! No one batted an eyelid and loads of my friends now have Disney phone cases and notebooks.
It's definitely fine!

Dixiechickonhols · 22/07/2016 17:11

My 10 year old has one. The sticker comes off it just looks like a satchel handbag. The pink is bright but that seems a popular shade( lots of tween/teen clothes in that colour) It also comes in purple. My dd chose it as it wasn't babyish.

lljkk · 22/07/2016 17:12

Another one saying it's fine.
Peppa Pig would raise eyebrows, but not bag in OP.
Then again, little kid stuff is 'cool' & retro.

Birdsgottafly · 22/07/2016 17:12

Asda sell them as well, in different colours.

My DD, who is Goth/Rock chick and only carries a Black Leather Dr Martin satchel, said that she'd carry one.

I've seen Teens with them, in addition to their school bigger bags.

atomsatdawn · 22/07/2016 17:14

Thanks all. It isn't about fitting in with the bullies more not giving them anything extra to target. We have had an horrendous twelve months where my beautiful kind and caring girl had been obliterated by bullies for being quirky

I was telling her when she is in year 11 no one will give a damn and they will all have my little pony or disney again anyway.

I've just asked my dd (13) and she says it's cool, and she wants it now too.

OhHolyFuck · 22/07/2016 17:40

My 32 year old married male friend has a frozen lunchbox! If she likes it, that's all that matters, screw the bullies

Obeliskherder · 22/07/2016 17:42

I think I'd get it for her but also not make a fuss or moan about money wasted if she suddenly goes off it and wants plain tupperware.

RichardBucket · 22/07/2016 20:07

I started secondary school (a very very rough secondary school) with a Winnie the Pooh backpack. I didn't get teased. I got bullied about plenty, but not my childish bag!

janey77 · 22/07/2016 20:16

I was pondering whether or not to have one of these for myself yesterday, but couldn't decide between pink or purple! I think they're lovely Smile

Arkwright · 22/07/2016 20:21

My Dd takes hers in a large sandwich bag. She said some have plastic lock n lock boxes. Nobody has lunchboxes or bags.

SatansLittleHelper2 · 22/07/2016 20:38

My dd has that and she's 17. The.picture comes out the front and a.name card can.go.in there.

HelloCanYouHearMe · 22/07/2016 20:47

I like it... and its a cool bag? So while her sarnies are cool, everyone else is eating warm ones?!

Sounds like a winner to me OP. in fact i might go buy myself one next week
