She is about to go into year nine (13-14 year olds) at a new secondary. She has sen and is quite young for her age.

She really wants this www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Product/partNumber/3687365.htm but aibu to be a bit worried they will think it babyish? I think the cool bag sticker comes off so just the actual bag I think.

Diddl - DD has it in purple!

Ilikegin · 22/07/2016 15:29

I think it's cute! Wish I had packed lunches! I think it shows your daughter is a confident young lady who doesn't mind what other people think about her. Way to go kiddo! Smile

Ashamedtoadmittothis · 22/07/2016 15:32

Not babyish I got my older dc the purple one from sainsburys where it's cheaper

MsJudgemental · 22/07/2016 15:34

It looks fine, but as others have said it will be too bulky. They have to cart everything around all day in their rucksacks so they end up just using Tupperware / Systema / plastic box things with a plastic water bottle so they can shove it all in anywhere.

pippitysqueakity · 22/07/2016 15:34

I agree with llikegin, lovely lunchbox, and fair play to your daughter!

Grumpyoldblonde · 22/07/2016 15:36

I think it is really nice, maybe you could send her in with a regular lunchbox just for the first day or two so she can suss what kind of lunchboxes the other girls have?

Porcupinetree · 22/07/2016 15:39

I think it's really nice.

VinoTime · 22/07/2016 15:39

I have a red one that I use for my work pack up, OP. It's awesome.

I'm 29, if that helps? Grin

If it makes her happy, go for it!

MammaTJ · 22/07/2016 15:42

I want one!

AcrossthePond55 · 22/07/2016 15:47

I agree with Grumpy. Can you suggest she put off selecting a lunch box for a few days until she sees 'what works best' with her school day? (i.e. what the others are using)

skatesection · 22/07/2016 15:54

The bag looks fine to me and if any the children at her school gave her any shit over it, I'd be surprised.
Plus, Y9 is where all the stupid crap about not being allowed to be different starts to ease off.

Ilovewillow · 22/07/2016 15:57

I saw this the other day and I think they do come off - I nearly brought for my daughter, I think it's great!

vfoster · 22/07/2016 15:57

Hello! I'm a secondary school teacher and this looks very much like what a lot of the kids at my school use! I wouldn't think anyone would say anything but ask her where she got it from.

BastardGoDarkly · 22/07/2016 16:08

Nah, don't flap op, that's fine.

And just for future reference, I think she needs to be herself, she'll find her people that way, desperately trying to fit in with bullies would never work anyway.

That's absolutely fine - I was expecting Dora the Explorer or something from the title!

IfOnlyIKnewThen · 22/07/2016 16:17

This may not make you feel any better but my daughter just received the same cool bag as a 5th birthday present. Having said that I actually think the satchel design is appropriate for children of all ages and adults too. I have a denim satchel and my 20 year niece has satchels in various funky colours.

Emeralda · 22/07/2016 16:18

I think it's nice. You could support her choice just now but also find some way of saying to her that if she changes her mind once she haa started at the new school, that's fine too. Kind of the opposite of what Grumpy said, I'm afraid. I just think it might send her in more confident if she's happy with her choice.

HereIAm20 · 22/07/2016 16:19

My friend's 18 year old has a Frozen plastic lunchbox!

AcrossthePond55 · 22/07/2016 16:21

Meant to add that I do like that bag!

If she does get one, maybe she'll be the one to start a trend!

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 22/07/2016 16:28

it's fine. My 8 year old dn would happily use that, as would I (im a lot older than 18!)

IrregularCommentary · 22/07/2016 16:32

Satchels have had a huge resurgence over the past few years and are still on trend. I don't know how practical it'll be as a lunch bag, but I don't see how she'd be mocked for it.

OhSoggyBiscuit · 22/07/2016 16:32

I have that lunchbag in red and white, totally not childish at all.

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 22/07/2016 16:33

There's a snazzy silver one in the same range.

It's rather bulky though - so like others have said, if she's not got a locker she'll get fed up of carting it about.

Trickyfriend · 22/07/2016 16:36

The card with graphics etc comes off so its just a hot pink satchel.

Personally I'd go for a less in your face colour.

Is it practical to carry with her other stuff?
