In Suffolk with 3tier moving to 2tier system. We are keeping DS in 2 Tier so will stay at local primary until end of year 6. Only 12 kids staying at his school.
Teacher hand out awards.

Gabriel is Mr Sporty
Mia Miss Sporty
Kyle is Mr Happy
Chloe is Miss helpful.

My DS was Mr Muddle. No one else has a negative Mr or Miss award.

Silly but has upset DH and me.... We think DS 8 ASD or Dyspraxia... Defo some SEN ... Our DS 6 has Severe SEN so we know what we are talking about.

I hate to think he is being portrayed as a negative character.

AIBU to be upset by this label!!!

I know secondary schools give out humourous awards chosen by fellow students-best couple, most likely to be president etc, but primary children shouldn't have labels which are negative. It seems very odd and insensitive.

WoahSlowDown · 21/07/2016 22:58

That's mean and wrong.

MilesHuntsWig · 21/07/2016 22:58

That's really irresponsible. I would definitely complain.

toastedbeagle · 21/07/2016 23:05

I still remember my first day at junior school age 7 when the headteacher said "I've heard of some of you already... I've heard you're naughty (points at boy) and you're a bossy boots (points at me)". Way to help us make friends and settle in!

This was in 1989 and I'm still cross about it!!!

serin · 21/07/2016 23:17

Awful. You wonder how some people actually qualify as teachers.

DS1 was cast as a 'wimp' in his year 5 play, the kids who were actually bullying him in real life were cast as cool, Bugsy Malone type characters.

Hmm
facebookrecruit · 21/07/2016 23:20

What a horrible fucking thoughtless thing to do!!!! Angry

ParanoidGynodroid · 21/07/2016 23:48

Totally not on. YANBU.
I'm sure it was intended to be affectionate and humorous, but was severely misjudged.

hownottofuckup · 21/07/2016 23:51

I can't imagine anyone who works with children being so stupid as to think that was appropriate

Naicehamshop · 22/07/2016 00:08

Thoughtless, unkind and inappropriate.Sad

therootoftheroot · 22/07/2016 00:12

my son got a Mr Late award last week with a note commenting on the unreliable bus service.

i was a bit Hmm as he leaves home at 7.40am every day and catches an actual school bus.

maninawomansworld01 · 22/07/2016 00:37

Go in and have a word.
Surely they could have come up with something positive !

Owlytellsmesecrets · 22/07/2016 03:39

Phew.... Thought I was being extra sensitive!!!
Head only interim and new head starts in September.
DS Is amazing at science and maths... Why not concentrate on that. Someone got Miss bookworm. DS reads constantly. His PE teacher has pointed out how fab he is at rounders and rugby.
Upset is an understatement!

Will you complain? I would.

MarthaElf · 22/07/2016 03:54

Yanbu. Dyspraxic As Dd would be upset at that.

BalloonSlayer · 22/07/2016 07:17

I was about to ask if he was good at other things then I saw your last post, Owly.

My DS1 could have been named Mr Muddle at the end of primary. His disorganisation was legendary. It drove me to a frenzy of frustration. The school did make a joke of it. I used to joke too but often would get in a rage with him. He wouldn't have been upset about getting an award like that, I would have been pleased at someone else acknowledging what I had to manage day-to-day (yes he can't help it, but he could have improved his organisation by at least 70% by actually listening and not seeing all his stuff as someone else's problem). I think it helped that he is good at lessons, so there was plenty of other stuff in his school life to be confident about, and that seems to be the same with your DS.

How upset is your DS? You don't mention it - just how you feel.

FWIW DS is now at Secondary school and raised his game enormously and is, surprise surprise, 70% more organised than he was! He was still voted by his Year 11 form as "student most likely to win the lottery and lose the ticket" though. And yes, he laughed. And I bloody roared!
