To think our baby's room could easily be used for a boy?

DH and I, have been working on the baby's room for a while, we don't know what the gender is, we have one of each, so we thought we might as well go for a surprise, so we wanted to do the room gender neutral.

We are pleased with it, but a couple of friends have gone "oh, it's a girl!?" or "I think it's a bit too pink". Be honest, do you think a boy would be fine in this room/would you put your son in this room?

I would also put my son in a pink room as well. My dds room is white and blue.

There's also more blue than pink in the picture as far as I can see, so comments about "a bit too pink" are baffling me slightly.

I never had an issue with the pink, tbh. So not sure why they object really, but oh well. Oh gosh, I didn't think of the bows...

However. I wouldn't want the cot right next to that long ribbon on the wall and bows as they could easily pull off the wall at night and it would be a chocking hazard or they could get tangled around neck

My only caveat would be to make sure those bows on the kites' tails aren't a choking hazard once your DC is able to pull up in the cot.

Otherwise, it's lovely!

As I repeatedly told my boys - Colour has no gender - they now have no problems wearing pink or purple and has no time for anyone telling them it's a 'girls' colour

Oh... Erm... I didn't really think of the curtains being a problem the other side of the room as been built in, shelves/wardrobe etc. I can't really change them to the other side

That's gorgeous and absolutely fine for a boy. The bows will be fine until they start pulling themselves up so you've got a while yet! The kite strings...are they vinyl stickers or ribbon? (and reaaaallly sorry to even bring this up because I know you didn't ask about this, and they really are gorgeous) I am not particularly paranoid with child safety but I think if they are ribbons I would probably take them off the wall when you start putting the baby to sleep in the cot. I personally wouldn't want anything long enough to wrap around a neck within reach of the cot even when you think they are too small and uncoordinated to grab at it (because one day they will be able to and might do it for the first time after they wake up from a nap). Or just pull the cot far enough away from the wall that they couldn't reach it even if they tried.
You might be able to use vinyl stickers instead, or I think the kites will look just as fab without. It really is a lovely room.

I don't think the curtains are a danger, really, just that they might get pulled by the child once they're old enough to be standing. Make sure the curtain pole is very strong and well attached to the wall.

Unfortunately, it's ribbon... Damn! I'm gutted
