Dogs and parks

Ok I know dogs need to be walked, but why are the children's areas so small. And the rest of the parks the grassy areas huge.

Why is it not possible for an outside track say 4 meters wide if not larger be fenced off for dogs leaving a centre area for children.

That way children can play football etc and dogs have a huge wide area going around the park.

Our local park is really big but it's covered in dog mess. Or dog wee. The children's area had swings etc and is dog free but there is nowhere to run around

The park must be 3 or 4 acres it could easily have an enormous outer circle easily 20ft wide circling.

It just seems that the dogs take priority over people.

Yesterday I was over the park and it's just a grass area no playing area .

There was an older gentleman in a mobile wheelchair scooting around the path with a staffy on an extendable lead

Dog see us a came running over, the man had no way of stopping it. As we were in its reach like I say extendable lead. He automatically said oh it's ok she is really friendly she will just lick you to death

I was polite and said oh she is lovly and wobbled off.

But he had zero control, plus when the dog poops he can't pick it up.

But my time is ruined one by his dog and two his dogs poop.

Well, life just doesn't work like that. They're called 'public parks' for a reason.

You can't expect other members of the public to never bring their dogs to a park, because some dogs hurt children.

NeedACleverNN · 14/07/2016 14:52

I really do hate dog threads on mn.

I no longer own a dog but no one in real life is ever up their own arse about dogs like they are on here.

Dogs and smoking. Two things guaranteed to get the more dramatic replies

plus when the dog poops he can't pick it up

Did you search him for a poop-a-scoop? Because that's what one of my disabled neighbours uses to pick up her dog's poo.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/07/2016 14:55

If dog wee is such a terrible thing, logically you'd have to restrict people with guide dogs from going in your dogless part, you know.

Well, judging from most people's - especially kids - reactions to my dog when I walk him in the local parks, segregation would reduce overall happiness. The happy squeals of 'ooh, its a sausage dog, can I stroke him' (most kids hereabouts are good on dog-stroking etiquette I'm pleased to say!) make us feel like we're doing a public service! Grin

KoalaDownUnder · 14/07/2016 14:55

How the hell is your time 'ruined' by an a friendly animal running up to you? Come on. It's not ideal (and I don't like extendable leads, for that reason), but that's a bit precious.

How do you know that he doesn't have a method of picking up its poo? Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 14/07/2016 14:58

extendable leads have a 'brake' button - he should have been able to restrain his dog.

insan1tyscartching · 14/07/2016 14:59

I took ddog to a lovely park yesterday, absolutely blissful walking by the river, lots of other adults and more dogs. Quiet and peaceful everyone happy and relaxed. The two fenced off play park areas were empty. After next week it will be full of screaming kids and there will be rubbish everywhere because there is every year without fail so it seems to me that whilst there might be some dog owners who don't clean up (don't see any in the park as there are cameras and dog fouling signs) there are many more people with children who don't clean up after their children either.

He probably could restrain it. Bet it didn't touch the OP. (Even though her day was ruined.)

Grassgreendashhabi · 14/07/2016 15:02

Because when he presses the break it was already at us.

I just do not get why there cannot be a seperate dog area to people area.

Not everyone likes dogs but we are expected to tolerate them.

in all my life has a random dog tried to lick my face

They do me Grin but at the time I have asked if I can stroke their dog and I'm having a good cuddle with said dog who wants to smother me with kisses.

KoalaDownUnder · 14/07/2016 15:10

Okay, you said it ruined 'your time'.

If you mean 'your time in the park', I just...don't know what to tell you.

'Some teenagers screamed at each other and it ruined my time'

'A baby was crying and it ruined my time'

'Someone threw a frisbee and it nearly hit me and ruined my time'

Do you not see how pathetic all of those sound?

It's a public area. You are not automatically entitled to never be bothered, approached, disturbed or apprehensive.

I am sorry that you dislike dogs, but there are no laws against taking them out in public. You might have to get over yourself.

And yes it was trying to lick my face

How tall was this staffy that it could reach your face? I know an Irish Wolfhound that couldn't reach my face! Shock

NeedACleverNN · 14/07/2016 15:20

Someone is socialising a little tiny sausage dog puppy in our town. It's so tiny!! It's snout is smaller than the length of my thumb

She had it tucked into her coat so the puppy wasn't too frightened.

I had to have a little stroke Grin
