I note that Sam Cam is a tall woman, as is Michelle Obama. Obviously most super models are tall and it seems to be something of a pre-requisite to attain model status but what about the shorties?

I can see why it's an issue for men and some even go so far as to wear those insole heightening things but have taller women always been the ideal?
On MN people tend to describe their dcs as 'towering' over them and incredibly tall for their age etc but really?

Penvelop, she'll grow into it.

Most tall women do.

At some point you realise you just need to "own it"

No blending in or hiding away Grin

pen I second the statement that she'll grow into it. At her age I was her height and would have probably sold my soul to be 'normal' sized. She's just 15. All you can do at the moment is encourage her to be confident in her own skin - something a lot of teenagers are still working through. Only difference for your dd is that people have preconceived notions about her. She'll be fine. That said my DM was 5 ft so didn't know what to say to me - she gawked at my height in the same way strangers did Hmm

Thank you ,lovely comments

She'll definitely grow into it, especially if you give her the confidence to do so. My mum is 5ft 10 (I'm 6ft) but she never actually said anything about height either good or bad. My children are average atm (we grow late!) but already they are excited/proud about being taller than daddy Smile

Statistics say taller women are more successful I read once

orangebird69 · 17/07/2016 07:56

I'm 6'2 and apart from the stupid 'what's the weather like up there' questions, I've generally had noting but nice comments about my height. Up until about 19 I didn't really like it and clothes/shoes are still very limited unless your budget isn't, but I like it. I wear heels, keep slim and don't slouch.

I've just remembered a horrid conversation I overheard. A group of youngish, mid 30s ish blokes were discussing the 'merits' of Asian women - their diminutive stature was seen as cute and the epitome of femininity. The word 'spinner' was used hmm

I wonder if this is changing. I live in a town with lots of language schools & saw a group of Chinese students outside one last week. Some of the girls were surprisingly tall - 5'9, 5'10. I wondered whether societal and dietary changes have 'taken the brakes off' & whether petite stature is becoming a thing of the padt.

Interesting thread. At 5' 6" I'm hardly a giant, but I've got long legs which makes me look taller than I really am. I get fed up of people going 'OMG you're so tall' (would you ever say 'OMG you're so fat'?) and I used to demonstrate that I'm not 7' 8" by standing next to the person making the remark. But I don't bother so much any more. And maybe I just move in kinder circles these days, as I don't get so many comments. Or maybe I've shrunk???

Taller men have been proven to be more successful - in politics, business and they earn more. The same is not true for women unfortunately. I'm 5'7'' which I think is pretty much perfect, tall for a woman but not towering over the men.

sofato5miles · 17/07/2016 13:53

We live on a private road with lots of investment bankers and managing partners. The women are all tall except for me. In fact we often comment on how each felt tall untill they moved here. One of the ladies is senior legal at a hedge fund and she is 5'10. The others met their husbands at uni mostly and few are english. It looks like the battle of superior genes.

One thing on feer: my 6' friend wears 40 shoe and my 5'10 friend wears a 38 so their feet aren't proportionately large.

I know it's the daily fail 😂🙈. But ice read this on numerous articles that taller men and women are more successful in the work place

And taller women are more attractive to men. No idea why though

Tall normally being at 5ft 8 and over

But I've , not ice *

I'm amazed at all the tall women on this thread! Why do I never see any of you when I'm out and about? I'm just over 6 foot tall. I get asked about 3 or 4 times a week how tall I am, I reckon. I feel like asking people how much they weigh in return, but I remind myself that they're not trying to be rude (usually!)

roarfeckingroar · 17/07/2016 14:26

Nah. I'm 5"3 on a tall day and revered by all Grin

JimbosJetSet · 17/07/2016 14:48

The women I 'revere' are the ones who are everything I'm not - I am slightly in awe of short, slim, confident women with a 'polished' look... I look up to these women even though physically I tower over them!
