Are taller women more generally greater revered?

I note that Sam Cam is a tall woman, as is Michelle Obama. Obviously most super models are tall and it seems to be something of a pre-requisite to attain model status but what about the shorties?

I can see why it's an issue for men and some even go so far as to wear those insole heightening things but have taller women always been the ideal?
On MN people tend to describe their dcs as 'towering' over them and incredibly tall for their age etc but really?

Realised I've not answered the OP. I think that tall women can be revered if they for into the supermodel mould BUT like pp's said if one is slightly bigger than we move into "Amazonian" or "masculine" territory.

RedHareWithBlondeHair · 13/07/2016 18:50

Queen Angela Merkel is 5'8 according to the reports I've read. It's not a battle for or against either party, it's a question based on an observation. Most women are not tipping 6ft but most of those that do are in a prominent position.

Look at tennis players etc, Venus is 6'1 alone. Tall women are by their virtue over represented.

Small women have the advantage.

Nobody feels threatened by them.

They're considered more attractive.

this is such bullshit!

all professional tennis players are tall- male or female

What? Most tall women are in a prominent position?

Nelleflowerpot · 13/07/2016 19:03

I'm 5.8 it's always been a pain to be honest and I always wished to be little. I was also rather heightist back in my early 20's towards men they HAD to be taller than me and I tactlessly told anyone this also 😳. DH is taller than me and remembers a drunk very young me at a party telling him and his friends I would only date taller men (his best friend was short). Oh the shame but it all came from insecurity about my height, so no being tall is not great!

Lunaticfringe12 · 13/07/2016 19:03

I had two female directors at my work; both tall, slender and almost other wordly in their poise and composure. I think their stature helped but it was reinforced by their natures.

On the other hand I'm five foot and as sophisticated as a budgie on speed. I feel this is related!

eyebrowsonfleek · 13/07/2016 19:05

I think the Queen would disagree.

bungleknows · 13/07/2016 19:06

There's tall and tall. At 5 feet 7 people think I'm taller than I am as I'm thin- it depends who I'm standing next to! I feel the perfect height, wouldn't want to be much taller. Can't imagine Sam cam et al being that tall without their heels.

LocatingLocatingLocating · 13/07/2016 19:14

I'm 5'11. I wouldn't say I was revered Grin But I am fairly senior in work, and always wear heels in the office. I enjoy being tall, and do feel like I have more if a 'presence' as a result.

That said, the (female) CEO of the very large organisation I work for is very short and plump.

CPtart · 13/07/2016 19:22

I'm 5ft 9" so not extremely tall but my legs are disproportionately long. Its only in recent years I can get jeans long enough, and I very rarely wear heels. Love being on the tall side though, can't explain why.

SoleBizzz · 13/07/2016 19:24

I'm hour glass figure. I love my long legs. Men always look at them in admiration 😅 I'm glad I am tall.

Misnomer · 13/07/2016 19:51

Wow, I'm so glad I found this thread. Not only am I revered, apparently, but I'm also in a prominent position! Wahoo! Could you just let me know what that prominent position is, OP? That would be great.

Oh and also some references for your claims. Ta!

Allofaflumble · 13/07/2016 19:53

I'm short and have been teased and bullied throughout my life. I wish people would stop commenting on someone's appearance in a derogatory way. The wounds go deep for a lot of us.

I envy women who are 5.4 and see them as tall!!

beetroot2 · 13/07/2016 19:55

Not noticed this but tall blokes are.

branofthemist · 13/07/2016 20:00

height is an advantage in lots of sports. She isn't revered because she is tall. But being tall helps her in sport. If she was just as good but shorter. She would still be revered.

I am 5ft 11in and it's a pain in the arse. But does give me and advantage in my sport. I have a longer reach.

But then Dd is very short for her age. Same sport as me and has turned that to her advantage too.

branofthemist · 13/07/2016 20:01

Oh and the amount of men that won't date women taller than them always shocked me.

I know loads that won't. Although dh is slightly smaller than me and it doesn't bother him. But it does bother plenty of men so can't see how I revered.

CruCru · 13/07/2016 20:07

Tall, slim women look better in photos. It's worth bearing in mind that David Cameron is reasonably tall (6'1") so him having a tallish wife is unsurprising.

HopeClearwater · 13/07/2016 20:14

I think the Queen would disagree

Daft example as Queen would be Queen at whatever height - she was born to this position, remember? Royal Family, remember??

MiddleClassProblem · 13/07/2016 20:37

Also Serena is better than Venus and shorter lol

MrsMook · 13/07/2016 20:37

I'm built like one of the smaller year 7s. In the last couple of months many of them have noticed that they've overtaken me. Some more gravitas would be handy! Today, I had to tell off a year 9 who is reaching the stage where I'm not sure if he'll clear the doorway safely. At well over a foot shorter, the effect is comical, and not in my favour. Especially as I have a deceptively youthful face.

Being mistaken for a student and being told off for being out of bounds by your colleagues is not cool.

I hate going up to a bar. I can't be seen behind the beer pumps. One night years ago, I got lost in the crowd and repeatedly overlooked by the bar staff as the people around me kept being served. Over 30 minutes later when I finally got served, it turned out that my friends had all moved on to the next pub and assumed I'd gone early for a bus, so I ended up necking the drink to hunt for their next venue.

Taller would have its advantages at times!

Housewife2010 · 13/07/2016 20:45

The Queen is 5 ft 4 (or was pre old age shrinkage ) which is the average height of women in Britain.

MiddleClassProblem · 13/07/2016 20:47

Whilst the Wueen did inherit her power she does hold gravitas when in a room but is that because of her position or that steely look she gives? Not sure.

ToElleWithIt · 13/07/2016 20:55

Not advantageous in the world of romance, but advantageous in the world of work I've found.

I work in a male-dominated industry and I like being able to look my colleagues and bosses in the eye (5'10 and wear heels). My bosses tend towards tall too. I do feel it gives me added presence which I would hope complements my actual talents!
