I am on a plane waiting for take off. A woman next to me is eating a large pot of pasta with very smelly sauce. No idea how she got it on board but it stinks and she's eating it with her hands with full-on slurping and finger licking. I have been awake since 5amand hhonestly think I might throw up.

Airline food usually smells rank and I'm sure she got it on board easily. There's not usually any restriction on what you can take on board.

I would have to kill her for the slurping alone you can take your own food on a plane can't you? Last time I was on a flight the family in front broke our the egg sandwich es they were rank but plane meals can smell just as bad

Koala yes! Proper digging in as though she was at home in the fridge, not in a confined public space! And then when the pasta was demolished she used her fingers to scoop up the sauce.

You can take most food on board. We always take our own. Why do you think you can't? The restrictions are taking some foods into other countries so as long as it's left on the plane it's perfectly ok.

Agree that smelly food on any public transport is beyond disgusting. And as for using her hands.... I'd be needing the sick bag.

You can't take food through security because it can't be searched properly. Ridiculous, maybe, but there you have it.

Last time we were flying out of Aus to Indonesia, we had a sealed yoghurt confiscated by security and binned.

Fwiw, using no cutlery sounds disgusting. But one person's delicious smelling bacon sandwich is another person's poo. You're always going to offend someone in these circumstances, unfortunately. Bad luck it's you sitting next to her, but she may just as well dislike the smell of your perfume. Public transport is just that, public. Sorry but she can eat what she likes and you're entitled to be silently outraged.

You can take non liquid food through security. I've done it many times. I've also bought food after security to eat on the lounge many times. I've never scooped up pasta sauce with my hands though..

The worst experience I had on a long haul flight was a bloke with the smelliest feet I have ever encountered. the smell was a mixture of rotting flesh and raw sewage.

The flight crew bagged up his trainers and gave him clean socks from first class, but he refused to wash his feet and was generally rude and obnoxious.

They resorted to spraying air freshener and duty free perfume around the neighbouring seats at regular intervals. Ruined the flight for us - it was truly nauseating.

So antisocial to get on a flight stinking like that.

Disgusting eating it with her hands so yanbu on that, if its a really strong fishy smell or something then it's a bit inconsiderate eating it in a confined space. A bit like I wouldn't spray perfume or deodorant on a plane or train. Nothing wrong with taking your own food on though, I do this - maybe a sandwich, apple, bit of cheese and I will buy a bottle of water after security to take on.
