I am on a plane waiting for take off. A woman next to me is eating a large pot of pasta with very smelly sauce. No idea how she got it on board but it stinks and she's eating it with her hands with full-on slurping and finger licking. I have been awake since 5amand hhonestly think I might throw up.

Since when is this kind of thing acceptable?! [Sick]

You can take food onboard. A pasta pot can be bought after security anyway in somewhere like boots

KayTee87 · 07/07/2016 09:25

3littlefrogs that's absolutely vile, imagine refusing to wash disgusting feet when being asked, he should have been mortified.

KoalaDownUnder · 07/07/2016 09:26

Yeah, but who the heck would eat a cold pasta pot? With their hands, no less? Ugh.

OopsThereGoMyTrousers · 07/07/2016 09:27

I often buy a sandwich to eat on my 7pm flight home (short haul non catered) but usually go for the least smelly option like ham and cheese. I have often considered the takeaway sushi but never buy it as the person sitting next to me on plane might not like smell of raw fish

Artandco · 07/07/2016 09:28

Koala - those pasta pots are sold in the fridge area to eat as lunch cold. Yes with a fork ( they usually come with one), but the pasta itself is fine

DollyBarton · 07/07/2016 09:29

Argh, gross. I wouldn't be impressed.

I must admit though that my babies have form for doing the worst nappies on flights before take off. I'm always mortified waiting for the seatbelt sign to finally go off. I'd take pasta over baby poo any day.

KayTee87 · 07/07/2016 09:30

oops I'd be appreciative of someone that avoided the fish like you, I can't stand the smell of fish and during my morning sickness phase it would have had me throwing up the entire flight. I like boiled eggs for breakfast but wouldn't eat them around other people as they do stink Grin

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 07/07/2016 09:30

Is she wearing a dressing gown?

Is it Nigella?

FrikkaDilla · 07/07/2016 09:32

I always buy or make my own sandwiches when flying with SleezyJet as their food is so dire. On one flight the stewardess told me it wasn't allowed.

After I stopped laughing I asked her why and she told me (in all honesty) that it was because other people might be jealous!

Obviously I continued enjoying my lunch and wondered what she was going to do about it. Stop the plane and throw me off??

KoalaDownUnder · 07/07/2016 09:34

Oh sure, pasta salad - but this is wet saucy stuff, no?

Artandco · 07/07/2016 09:35

Yep - it's a cold pasta in tomato sauce or Mayo type stuff with veg. They sell at most London airports. It comes with a free plastic fork. Loads of people buy and take on plane as they are sold to do so

sharknad0 · 07/07/2016 09:36

Someone I won't name and shame here pretends to start throwing up in such a situation. That person thinks it's hilarious, I am not sure as throwing up tends to be contagious and I don't really fancy a flight full of sick people, the smell would get worst.

trafalgargal · 07/07/2016 09:41

She lied
It is allowed but Easy Jet crew are paid commission on any buy on board sales and are expected to maximise sales. So long as it meets the liquids rule it's allowed.

Not really sure why cold pasta is going to smell strongly ,hot yes but it'd have to REALLY be garlicky or whatever if cold to carry through a plane the way the OP is claiming.

LivingOnTheDancefloor · 07/07/2016 09:42

On a plane from the US the passenger next to me started eating a smelly hamburger as soon as we took off. I was ok with it then, maybe because I was 20ish and used to fast food - I even thought I should have done the same! Now well in my 30s I wouldn't like it so much (but wouldn't say anything).

trafalgargal · 07/07/2016 09:45

One day your hilarious friend will get off loaded or the plane turned back. In these days of no fly lists for trivial as well as genuine reasons they may find the joke is on them.

PerpendicularVincent · 07/07/2016 09:46

The slurping and eating with fingers is pretty antisocial. Yanbu

user7755 · 07/07/2016 10:43

Surely the person is eating with their fingers as you can't take eatin utensils on a plane?

malmi · 07/07/2016 11:31

May be a cultural thing? Flying to/from China I've often seen passengers bringing Pot Noodle type products on board and going straight to the galley to request hot water to make them up, before taking their seats. Similar to what people might be used to doing on a long distance train journey I suppose.

OopsThereGoMyTrousers · 07/07/2016 11:36

Most of my those takeaway pasta salads have a little folding fork hidden behind label in lid.
Took me several years to discover this fact!

HunterHearstHelmsley · 07/07/2016 11:40

Eating with her hands is rank but the pasta itself is ok.

I hate the smell of meat but you can't expect everyone not to being meat because one person doesn't like it. You would never have anything if you thought about everything others didn't like the smell of.

Snowflakes1122 · 07/07/2016 11:42

The eating wouldn't bother me. Pasta doesn't usually smell offensively.
But the eating pasta with her fingers?! Gross.

LordoftheTits · 07/07/2016 12:01

Surely the person is eating with their fingers as you can't take eatin utensils on a plane?

Then they should have waited until the plane was in the air to ask for a plastic fork instead of shovelling food into their face like an animal!

user7755 · 07/07/2016 12:04

You misunderstand me, I'm not excusing the behaviour. People just seemed to be hung up on the eating with fingers aspect. This explanation made sense to me

MrsJayy · 07/07/2016 12:07

Cold pasta especially if its a tomato sauce really smells if i have kept some back it seems smellier cold tbh maybe its my cooking

MrsJayy · 07/07/2016 12:08

It was the slurping description that got me
