It's now becoming accepted. On a site that prides itself on its snark and acerbicity it's seen now that the OP has to POINT out in which mood you should reply to a thread.

Plus it's naff cutesy and Facebook. #blessed #lovemylife etc.

yes - you are probably right

Ok, what are people meant to say to denote 'lightheartedness'? I find if they do not, and it doesn't come across, it leads to a thread full of arguments between those who 'get it' and those who don't. Don't get me started on accidentally opening one of those awful 'Aibu from baby/dog point of view', those need to be highlighted from 10 miles away.

I always find these threads bemoaning 'naff and cutesy language' ironic, considering the site is infamous use of prefixing the nauseating 'dear' to all personal nouns Hmm.

JackandDiane · 04/07/2016 09:15

oh i don't do that any more
SO naff

WhisperingLoudly · 04/07/2016 09:16

Mostly if you're not being a fuckwit then you won't need it pointing out.

If you're not sure whether it's "light hearted" then give the OP the benefit of the doubt rather than behaving like a cunt.

sorenofthejnaii · 04/07/2016 09:19

Right now, I'm having trouble distinguishing between responses on the EU that are light hearted or serious. I can't tell if the poster is being very serious or is taking the piss in their comment.

Shiningexample · 04/07/2016 09:24

My vote goes to the colour coded thread idea

my vote goes to people getting a sense of humour back Grin

Ginslinger · 04/07/2016 09:28

and whisperingloudly is bang on the money there - grind the fuckwits into powder and wash them down the drain

PigletJohn · 04/07/2016 09:43

Are you being serious?

TheSpottedZebra · 04/07/2016 09:46

I wish I had a like button to Like your post, J&D

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2016 09:47

I tend to avoid threads that have 'lighthearted' in the title. I do think that posting everything and anything in the joke topic that is AIBU doesn't help though.

QuimReaper · 04/07/2016 09:52

People who can't tell when a post is lighthearted without someone ringing a giant bloody gong to signal it should go on a comprehension course.

You should look at some of the posts on the EU. It's hard to tell.

ElspethFlashman · 04/07/2016 10:03

I avoid "lighthearted" threads like the plague too.

It's always "don't kids say the funniest things" type of stuff like that TV show that was on years ago.

You'll never see a "lighthearted" thread getting into Classics, thats for sure.

Emochild · 04/07/2016 10:08

I started a thread about chicken nuggets and had people having a go saying I could have got someone sacked (because they stuck to the advertised portion size rather than give me one extra that was left all alone in the serving tray)

I mean -chicken nuggets

Surely I didn't need to put 'lighthearted' in my thread title?

It's got ridiculous!

Cutecat78 · 04/07/2016 10:10

It shocks me how nasty people are (on FB threads etc) where it's not even anonymous.
!

NickiFury · 04/07/2016 10:12

"Serious reply - maybe if there weren't so many utterly humourless and nasty twats just waiting to jump in on what are clearly jokey threads and give the op a good kicking and crap all over the thread, there wouldn't be so many people trying to get in there first and stop them before they start."

This.

EdmundCleverClogs · 04/07/2016 10:13

I agree with others, on paper you should be able to figure it out (I remember your thread Emo, it was ridiculous that people took it seriously). However, sometimes it is difficult to read tone/sarcasm in writing, and some people genuinely get afronted by the silliest things (parent and child parking spaces....). I've said before, I think there should be a 'lighthearted' part of the forum, though with a better name obviously.

JackandDiane · 04/07/2016 10:14

i think like buttons would be good tbh

OP posts:
MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 04/07/2016 10:15

Don't pander to the twats!

In times gone by if you were too thick humourless to get it you would have it pointed out.

Now we are dumming down to an absurdist position.

GastonsPomPomWrath · 04/07/2016 10:15

Someone is always offended about something usually nothing...my thread about my dd who can't ride a bike for example...fgs

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 04/07/2016 10:16

Surely that's what the chat board is for Edmund?

ExtraHotLatteToGo · 04/07/2016 10:16

People should be made to take a comprehension test before they're allowed to join. It USED to be a place where you could have a great debate & a great laugh.
