Older people and medicine services

Today I was waiting in a queue to the local medicine centre and an oldery lady on crutches couldnt get an appointment to the doctor sooner than 6th of July and she was so sad and said she would like sooner but they couldnt do anything. I saw her going home on crutches when I young and with a car sat and drove away. I cant believe government cant make old people a priority instead of junkies on which they spend so much money. While she was taking her bag her crutches fell and i picked them and gave to her and she was apologising to me that she have been scared with falling noise of crutches my baby daughter and I still cant get over it, how she can apologise to me for her falling cratches sound. I opened her doors because medicine centre cant even make sure they patients dont need to worry about doors because there is a lot people who cant.
It is so not fair and these pavements are in such a bad conditions for invalids and these with mobility problems because they dont understand because they drive on cars not on wheelchairs. I just recently realized it because of pram, before I didnt had any idea that that is so bad.
Sorry for my long text and mistakes I made but i needed to put it out. Just to add, one close family member is GP and he has holidays every single month!!! no joking

Hmm
ghostyslovesheep · 30/06/2016 16:15

you respect people simply because they are old and/or disabled - really?

How patronising are you?

MrsRyanGosling15 · 30/06/2016 16:16

How do you feel about older people with addictions? I've nursed many a 70yr old alcoholic, and they even had crutches!!

concertplayer · 30/06/2016 16:23

I thought the post was excellent. The responses back up your argument that a lot of people really do not care a damn about the elderly.
Last month a friend's father aged 82 went in for a cancer op requiring 5 days post -op care.
His bed was in a noisy Medical Assessment Unit
as no space on any ward He received no food or drink.
The place was at times full of drunks etc
I could quote many other similar cases. Shameful

KittyLaRoux · 30/06/2016 16:26

So from my response you got that i dont care for the elderly Confused okaaayyy then.

Is that you OP?

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 30/06/2016 16:26

The responses back up your argument that a lot of people really do not care a damn about the elderly.

Responses: OP, why didn't you offer her a lift/some help
You: MNERS HATE THE ELDERLY
Hmm

Alconleigh · 30/06/2016 16:34

All the elderly people I know I vote Tory then moan about the state of the NHS. Go figure. I'd still not leave one of them hobbling along on crutches while I drove off, though.......

arethereanyleftatall · 30/06/2016 16:43

I think all the op is trying to say is that she wishes the woman could have been seen immediately. Which is, unfortunately, utterly unrealistic with a free service, and priorities must be given.

But, to echo others, I would very much doubt you have paid more in tax than you've used. Did you know, for example, that for every birth the hospital has to pay £700 in insurance? That's before the cost of the bed, the midwives, the epidural a etc which I believe run in to the thousands of pounds.

Laiste · 30/06/2016 16:52

What about old alcoholics? Or disabled junkies?

:)

AnnieOnnieMouse · 30/06/2016 17:16

Humph. I'm old. I've spent months on crutches. I don't vote Tory; never have and never will.
Everyone wants a GP appointment NOW, but really, the people who actually need them the most rapidly are children, pregnant women and people who, if they are ill, can't go in to work and earn their keep.
Oldies like me can sit at home and whinge on MN all day.

ilovesooty · 30/06/2016 17:18

I work with plenty of people of all ages who misuse all sorts of substances. Many of them have disabilities.
I still think the OP's attitude towards substance misuse absolutely stinks.

Letmehaveausername · 30/06/2016 17:47

Annie if you were sick and in real need of medical care at the time (i.e not just got an issue that's able to wait however many days) I would hope that you don't think you can wait just because you're older and stay at home. You are just as important as children, pregnant women and people who work.

AnnieOnnieMouse · 30/06/2016 18:08

Oh yes, and my GP is wonderful about seeing me on the day if I really need her. She does triage over the phone, and will then decide if I need to visit, or give advice/prescription if obvious. However, I have to say that far too many people of all ages go to the GP rather than asking the pharmacist for advice, or simply taking a couple of paracetamol, and waiting until morning.
