Older people and medicine services

user1467290017 · 30/06/2016 13:55

Today I was waiting in a queue to the local medicine centre and an oldery lady on crutches couldnt get an appointment to the doctor sooner than 6th of July and she was so sad and said she would like sooner but they couldnt do anything. I saw her going home on crutches when I young and with a car sat and drove away. I cant believe government cant make old people a priority instead of junkies on which they spend so much money. While she was taking her bag her crutches fell and i picked them and gave to her and she was apologising to me that she have been scared with falling noise of crutches my baby daughter and I still cant get over it, how she can apologise to me for her falling cratches sound. I opened her doors because medicine centre cant even make sure they patients dont need to worry about doors because there is a lot people who cant.
It is so not fair and these pavements are in such a bad conditions for invalids and these with mobility problems because they dont understand because they drive on cars not on wheelchairs. I just recently realized it because of pram, before I didnt had any idea that that is so bad.
Sorry for my long text and mistakes I made but i needed to put it out. Just to add, one close family member is GP and he has holidays every single month!!! no joking

my mum's 70 - she'd tell you to get to fuck - hth :)

dangermouseisace · 30/06/2016 14:26

I went to see many elderly people when I worked for social services who were actually rather well off, living alone in massive houses and moaning about the heating costs —whilst I was in a 2 bed damp house with 3 kids—

Of course there were others who were less well off but generally they were all much better off than those of working age who are on benefits and many who are working. (I also had working age disabled people on my case list)

I hope you will think the same when you will become old. I do pay taxes and I havent taken them out even close to that number. Probably we have so many addicts because of the way how people people thinks.

Probably we have so many addicts because of the way how people people thinks

That sentance doesn't even make sense, but incase you're unsure, here's some common reasons why people end up as addicts:

The care system failed them, drugs block out abuse
Their doctors failed them when they had pain/treatment, over prescribed, then took it away with no support
They found themselves homeless (most of us are after all only a couple of months away from homelessness if our circumstances changed) - how many nights on the street would you last before you decided to block it all out?
Mental health services failed them

KittyLaRoux · 30/06/2016 14:31

How many addicts are there user24545423whater ?

mirime · 30/06/2016 14:31

You have no idea why someone is an addict or what their personal circumstances are so you abvvu to complain about them receiving treatment. You also have no idea why an elderly person needs treatment so can't say they should always be a priority, even if they are on crutches.

ghostyslovesheep · 30/06/2016 14:32

How many addicts do 'we' have OP?

Do you mean heroin or all drugs including alcohol and fags?

Do you know that you can be OLD and an addict - has your head just exploded?

expatinscotland · 30/06/2016 14:34

' do pay taxes and I havent taken them out even close to that number. '

Which number is that? You do realise taxes are not a personal savings account. You don't bank them and then take them out. They pay for invaluable infrastructure that allows us all to go about our business quite easily and unmolested.

Dawndonnaagain · 30/06/2016 14:34

User (Oh the irony)
You very obviously know absolutely nothing about:
The NHS.
The way taxes work.
The nature of addiction.
I'd leave it if I were you, you're only making yourself look very, very silly.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 30/06/2016 14:36

Do you know that you can be OLD and an addict - has your head just exploded?

Including the lady on crutches, she might be addicted to OTC and prescription meds and might be in every other day trying to get her prescription increased

PortiaCastis · 30/06/2016 14:37

This is hilarious

ilovesooty · 30/06/2016 14:58

I work in addiction.

Your posts are so ridiculous and ill informed that I can't believe you're prepared to embarrass yourself.

user1467290017 · 30/06/2016 15:14

I dont mean tax as a saving account, i mean it like i paid more than i got back (i am on my maternity leave). Probably all misunderstandings are because I am not from this country originally and where I came from old people are not rich.
I am not rich but I working hard and never expected anything to be given for free.
However, I do respect old and disabled people and always will. Saying that, I dont mean I dont respect alcoholics and adults but it is just not comparable.

What's a 'medicine centre'? Confused

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 30/06/2016 15:23

I don't even know where to start with this one

How do you feel about adults who are old, disabled and addicts all at the same time? Grin

MrsOs · 30/06/2016 15:24

God you are a nasty bunch! I know what you're saying op and you sound very caring. You would hope though that if it was urgent they would have seen her sooner.

Peeporeader · 30/06/2016 15:24

Maybe the old lady was a junkie: dun dun dunnnn!

legotits · 30/06/2016 15:27

What IS a junkie?

I get mixed up me, someone who uses an illegal drugs everyday?

DonkeyOaty · 30/06/2016 15:28

I think OP is clumsily saying awww little old lady was very apologetic about disturbing my baby then went on a tangent about the pressures on the NHS ?

Birdsgottafly · 30/06/2016 15:36

OP, not being from the UK, you may not realise the amount of services available.

Such as the COPD, Community health, etc teams, that will do Home visits, if needed.

Just because you are Older, it doesn't mean that you need a GP appointment, quickly.

GPs are generally good at Signposting people, it takes the pressure off them. It's part of their duties.

I'm only 48, I was bottom of the list in terms of GP appointments and had to go to A&E twice, as well as a Walk-in centre.

You stating that you know HPs who have regular holidays, is ridiculous, most GPs are struggling with their patient load. Ours will soon be stretched to breaking point.

sparechange · 30/06/2016 15:42

i mean it like i paid more than i got back (i am on my maternity leave)

You'd be surprised... I think you have to be earning more than £40k a year before you start putting in more than you take out. Factor in that you've just used the NHS to have a baby, and are now receiving government money in the form of maternity leave, you might well find you are a net taker from the system

Letmehaveausername · 30/06/2016 15:45

So did you come on here just to be a bitch or....?

Perhaps you should spend some time in more depraved areas, speak to these 'junkies' you seem to have such little regard for. Many and more of them have had enormous problems in their life that they have had no help for, they turn to self medication to get relief and it spirals from there.

You don't like it go complain to your MP, complain to the doctors who have such bad door systems that people are unable to open them if not fully able bodied.

But for the love of god don't come and lump all GPs as the same, complaining about how much holidays they take and those evil money stealing junkies. You sound very nasty because of it.

AdultingIsNotWhatIExpected · 30/06/2016 15:45

What you "take out" is more than just whether you claim benefits or not

You can be no claiming benefits while your local police force are undercover in your area protecting you from things you don't even know are happening
The army are still training up recruits for your defence
You might be using roads, breathing fresh air from environmental protection programs.

There's lots more you take out than what I think you think, so you probably don't take out less than you put in unless you're a high earner

user1467101855 · 30/06/2016 16:01

God you are a nasty bunch! I know what you're saying op and you sound very caring.

No she bloody doesn't! So caring she watched the little old lady hobble off on crutches while she sat in her car and then whined on here about how her taxes should help old dears like that.
She could have given the old dear a bloody lift if she was that caring!

user1467101855 · 30/06/2016 16:04

i mean it like i paid more than i got back (i am on my maternity leave

You did not! Have you paid enough to pay for your NHS pregnancy and birth? The free drs you've seen for years? The police who protect you, the roads, the street lights, the schooling your child will get, the free kindegarten, the health visitors, the child benefit, the court services, the local government, the subsidies...

I doubt it!
