I have an illogical fear of large empty swimming pools. It's totally irrational but I'd be too frightened to look at one let alone stand in it.

Yep, that's exactly what I do, Maybenot. In my view, it's better to NOT clean your surfaces than to use a manky cloth.

MangoMoon · 30/06/2016 19:11

And YY to wind turbines

Beeziekn33ze · 30/06/2016 19:12

Not a freak out but I have a compulsive urge to deadhead any rises I see!

MangoMoon · 30/06/2016 19:13

And another vote for clowns too...

CigarsofthePharoahs · 30/06/2016 19:16

Most things to do with feet.
Can't stand the look of feet, especially if there's hard skin on ratty toenails involved. Can't stand socks, they alternately gross me out or piss me off. I have to deal with them as we all have to wear them, but it's very much a hate-hate relationship. I have to keep them paired. I pair mine when I put them in the laundry, have to hang them in proper pairs when drying. If there's an odd one - well, it's just wrong and I can't look at it.
Anything involving mould or fungi. I can just about cope with shop bought button mushrooms, but not "interesting" fungi. It freaks me out. DH bought some Chinese stuff for a meal and the weird mushroomy things looked so alien! It didn't help that they still had some black crumbs of the media they were grown in still adhering to them. Uck.
Mildew is so mingingly nasty I have to really psyche myself up to clean it. I really don't like going near it!

Interesting re the belly buttons. Shortly after birth, my youngest developed a herniated belly button. It was so weird I couldn't stop staring at it - or playing with it!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 30/06/2016 19:17

I forgot to mention flip flops, or any other type of shoe that flaps when you walk. It's the tearing noise as they flop away from your feet...
Eeeuuugggghhhhhhh.

fluffyjumper123 · 30/06/2016 19:19

I totally get marmites fear of fish. Had the same experience of jumping in to the sea and noticing all the fish at the bottom and the texture of them wriggling and slimy Euuuuuuuuurghh. Also can't stand anything really slimy that doesn't have legs - worms, slugs, snails.

Also hate it when a body part brushes against the grain of a carpet and that gritty teeth feeling you get when it happens. Normally only happens with cheap carpets like you find in schools. Confused

Lolly sticks in mouths
Dry cotton wool
Dry microfibre

But the big one is ...

Bouncy castles.

I'm convinced someone is going to break a bone, probably in their cervical spine, at any moment.

Today our PTA chair casually mentioned she was putting me on the bouncy castles at the school fete. I had to beg her to put me somewhere else - anywhere else!

wanderings · 30/06/2016 19:24

I get nervous about voicemail too, especially if I miss the call by a whisker. It means dealing with it takes much longer; have to play voicemail, decide what to do about it, call back...

PosiePootlePerkins · 30/06/2016 19:27

Escalators that are out of order. Can't stand watching people walking up/down them, I have a fear that the escalator will collapse underneath them!

exWifebeginsat40 · 30/06/2016 19:35

I've mentioned this before, but Jools Holland standing up. Jools Holland sitting down is fine.

HandbagCrazy · 30/06/2016 19:41

I'm so glad some posters have said wind turbines- my dm goes all weird when she sees one, she swears and looks terrified.

For me, it's feet - specifically people touching their own feet in front of me Confused

Also, ladybirds. Have a mind blanking phobia of them - have left a work meeting without a word when I spotted one. They make me feel sick.

Also hate anyone touching the very tips of my finger nails - just ew

I forgot to add sheep. Their eyes are glassy and blank

Oh and cous cous - it feels like a million little bugs in my mouth. Gives me goosebumps

And now I'm thinking of a loads more - the airing cupboard, the idea of biting into wet cotton, the sound of loud bass on a song, daddy long legs....

RegTheMonkey1 · 30/06/2016 19:54

Butterflies, moths, daddy-long-legs, bees, wasps, horse flies, stag beetles.

Sonders · 30/06/2016 19:56

The thought of the inside of a sea shell, I think that's my equivalent of nails on a chalk board.

I also gag at the thought of knee surgery - I'm squeamish in general but the knee freaks me out.

FuckingMother · 30/06/2016 19:56

Cupid - I swim a lot and don't think anything about it is scary. The water reaches the top of the pool sides - so easy to get out.

Then came the day they were doing maintenance and they let some water out for safety and it was about a foot below the top of the sides. And worse still, the lane dividers were just hanging in air. Not in the pool at all. I spent a very short time swimming, feeling incredibly uneasy and threatened. And freaked out. Then I got out of the pool, still creeped out! I felt patheticGrin

Sonders · 30/06/2016 19:58

And plug holes! I hate them. I hate it when I use a shower and the plug is where I want my feet to go.

Used napkins/food that has previously been on someone's plate - even if they haven't touched it.

Chewing gum.

MintyChapstick · 30/06/2016 20:02

Spiders
Large churches
Cooling towers
Electricity pylons

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 30/06/2016 20:05

Wavy lines close together. Yeuch!!!!!

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 30/06/2016 20:06

Oh - and the lines under mushrooms. And this Slater/woodlice insects when they are upside down.

allegretto · 30/06/2016 20:07

Teeth. I hate looking at teeth. The dentist was showing me how to clean properly and I kept on closing my eyes. It made me realise that I never look at myself when I clean my teeth.

Asprilla11 · 30/06/2016 20:09

The 'Dark' and 'Monsters' when I was a kid, even when out of toddler age.

Since being a kid and forever, most insects, even something like a stick insect! But especially spiders and moths, my heart starts beating really fast.

Being in the water and within touching distance of a massive ship, like an oil tanker. Even if it was anchored, it's the sheer size I think and because you can't see below.

A fear of people not liking me or talking about me, but that's my anxiety Sad

littlepooch · 30/06/2016 20:09

Balloons. I hate them and people find it hilarious and wind me up with them.

DD is only 7 months but already am dreading having to go to children's parties where there will be balloons. We were at a first birthday party last week and I had to pretend DD needed feeding and leave the room as soon as the balloons came out.
