If I say Mumsnet attracts a certain type of person?

Let me start of by saying that I've been on quite a few other forums and the opinion/views of them are a lot different/ diverse.

Things most MN members seem to agree on:

Ear piercing views

Schooling views

Baby showers (haven't actually come across a MNetter who hasn't labelled them grabby).

If I were to mention these subjects elsewhere, the comments would be a lot more diverse and lenient.

So, AIBU to say Mumsnet attracts a certain type of person (overall)?

Whether that's because of social class or personality, I can't decide. It's interesting to see what you all think Smile

I always (almost) agree with the majority ruling. I am no where near middle class.

Charley50 · 29/06/2016 17:47

People on here love to read, write, express themselves. I like that people write in proper sentences too, but that if someone's slates someone's poor spelling they get rightly pounced on for being a cunt.
Oh and I love the swearing.
I agree with a PP though that some people who would like to come on here would be put off, thinking they weren't articulate enough for it.

I loved my babyshower :D The only present was a nappy cake, but we had lots of laughter and silly games. I don't think they need to be grabby at all, but it has to be a surprise arranged by other people I think! If you arrange one for yourself it's a bit grabby :P

Some very interesting comments have been put down, thanks Smile

I have to say though, I don't understand how you can be blissfully unaware of class. I think I was aware of it even as a child. The children at my Pony Club were so different to me, I felt very inferior to them despite their loveliness - they were just better off and couldn't really see that as I could. But, cockney family think I'm dreadfully posh Hmmprobably because I don't sniff cocaine or drive a BMW

Cheap shot

I love MN. I'm not a prolific poster and am certainly not witty. But at least I can understand people here. Text speak makes me feel old.

From memory I was referred to as 'virtually text book definition of middle class' on a previous thread. Apparently our lack of labradour (how do I spell that?!) was the only box I didn't tick...

AppleSetsSail · 29/06/2016 19:35

So, does coke and a BMW make one posh? Not posh?

I love the writing on MN, it challenges me to be a bit more mindful of my own.

HeartOnTheLine · 29/06/2016 19:36

Are you implying that those with money/posh take come?

HeartOnTheLine · 29/06/2016 19:37

coke

PortiaCastis · 29/06/2016 19:40

I've got the sniffles now

AppleSetsSail · 29/06/2016 19:42

Heart no, I was implying my extended family take coke, and they're a big laugh away from posh

Their class hasn't got anything to do with their stupidity though

I think coke is the great class leveller! Wink No pony club for me either. One of my old bosses used to ride her pony round hyde park and another had been some kind of 'lady' to Princess Di. It makes me laugh when my family/frinds say i'm posh because i have an rp very nasal whine accent and live in a MC area, because i have met REALLY posh people and MC people aint it!

Banderwassnatched · 29/06/2016 20:03

I am actually a pirate.

Yarrrr.

derxa · 29/06/2016 20:19

MN is the home of hyperbole and over reaction to trivial matters. I love it.

Their class hasn't got anything to do with their stupidity though

Just as their drug taking and choice of car, hasn't got anything to do with being cockney.

WorraLiberty · 29/06/2016 20:27

The Sally Websters of this world (of which there seem to be a few on MN) are what you call 'moving classes'.

Sometimes they come across as having something to prove IYSWIM.

derxa · 29/06/2016 20:27

I have a nose on the DM website now and again everyday and I bet I'm not the only one! Exactly although its bias is giving me too much of the rage at the moment.

MrsKoala · 29/06/2016 20:28

I don't say it real life - i was joking a bit. But i have had it said to me as an insult even when i was a child (sometimes i wonder what possesses adults to say such things to kids). I would say i'm wc actually. I identify much more as that than anything else and i'm always surprised people see me differently. DH thinks he's MC but he isn't, we are both from WC stock and i don't think you can change that. Our DC however, will be and i'm a bit scared of that. Grin

My parents read the mail on sunday and i get them to save the YOU magazine for me as i just love it Blush
