Bonjour tout le monde! Smile

It seems that French music has often had a bit of bad press or mixed reviews on this side of the Channel Grin (perhaps Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin are slightly responsible for it with Je T'aime? Or maybe Vanessa Paradis??)

Anyway - I'd like to ask you all please whether you listen to French music, and if you do, who your favourite singers and groups are!

If you like any current musicians, it would be great to hear who you like!

I'm a huge fan of French music by French-speaking singers and groups, but always on the lookout for new recommendations.

At the moment, I really like the Belgian singer Stromae and the French singers Indila, Bénabar, Louane and Vincent Delerm.

I also like Baloji, who are a Belgian group, the French-Canadian singer Coeur de Pirate and the French rapper Soprano.

How about you all? Would be very keen to get some thoughts on who you're into Smile

OK, it's going back an AWFUL long way, but my French exchange girl complained bitterly that les Beatles were nicking the songs of Johnny Halliday. She played me a record to demonstrate her point - JH singing one of Les Beatles' numbers.
I had to point out to her the small lettering on the 45 where it said, 'Lennon-McCartney' and that her beloved Johnny Halliday had in fact nicked one of theirs.
She went a bit quiet after that...

I love French pop and listen to nrj made in France station every day...Blush. I like Keen'v, Kenji, Christophe Mae...the list goes on. I haven't actually studied French since year 7, and have just picked up bits from holidays and my HB who teaches French. I like it much more than British or American pop. My parents think I'm a bit mad.

When I lived in Paris I was OBSESSED with Marc Lavoine - went to see him in concert twice and still often listen to his music. There are lots of other great singers - Raphael, the album Caravane is my favourite. Anais, Alain Souchon's older stuff. Ahhh the memories.

I've spent a few years living in France and studying French etc, but I always thought most French music was dire. The only thing I look back on fondly was Telephone because they were fun (Cendrillon and Ca se sent..). Long time ago though, perhaps it's got better?
