To ask your opinion on French pop music?

Bonjour tout le monde!

It seems that French music has often had a bit of bad press or mixed reviews on this side of the Channel (perhaps Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin are slightly responsible for it with Je T'aime? Or maybe Vanessa Paradis??)

Anyway - I'd like to ask you all please whether you listen to French music, and if you do, who your favourite singers and groups are!

If you like any current musicians, it would be great to hear who you like!

I'm a huge fan of French music by French-speaking singers and groups, but always on the lookout for new recommendations.

At the moment, I really like the Belgian singer Stromae and the French singers Indila, Bénabar, Louane and Vincent Delerm.

I also like Baloji, who are a Belgian group, the French-Canadian singer Coeur de Pirate and the French rapper Soprano.

How about you all? Would be very keen to get some thoughts on who you're into

I was trying to remember the name of Negresses Vert last week, so thank you to those that mentioned them.

I had to exorcise A Plane Pour Moir from my head by repeating it whilst driving down the M4.

I looked up the lyrics when I first heard it to try to make sense of it and I'm still none the wiser..!

The only bit I can sing along to is when he says: 'en quatre couleurs' and the 'paillasson' bit!

I have to admit I love it too. I'm not sure the lyrics make sense at all, tbh, but it's certainly a very persistent ear worm.

YANBU, Stromae is bloody brilliant and I really love Dernière Danse by Indila However my true love will always be German music

I love the song song poetry style of some French music.I also love the over dramatic descriptions of love and heartbreak.
The 60s stuff like joe dessin are great too.

I remember liking Koudlam (sp?) very much from this playlist.

Thread has moved on a bit but I don't like Indila because 1. I think she is a bit cheesy and meh and 2. My baby son loved Love Story and I was forced to listen to it on a loop with Vianney's Pas la for about six months.

So not really her fault, just horses for courses.

Can't believe I forgot Calogero and Shy'm.

BIL really likes Francois and the Atlas Mountains too, but I think that some of them are actually from Bristol.
