To ask if it's embarassing to buy condoms

Me and DH were having a dissagreement about contraception. If I am buying condoms at the shop, he won't come with me as it's 'embarassing'. Aibu to think he should grow up? Its not like anyone cares....

Dh was fab on this. (Pregnant at mo). I hid (yes i know) and he gets them with cash so nice and quick.

PolaroidsFromTheBeyond · 28/06/2016 17:20

Why can't he order them online if he's embarrassed?

TheNaze73 · 28/06/2016 17:21

Can't he buy them out of the vending machine in a pub?

Is he 14??

Seems a bit odd

CocktailQueen · 28/06/2016 17:22

What? In case people realise he has a WILLY? He's being a dick.

How old is he?!

PPie10 · 28/06/2016 17:22

I think your DH is being silly

sparechange · 28/06/2016 17:24

Geez, I had a similar basket once
1 bag of flour, 6 bottles of wine, 3 boxes of condoms (on offer) and some wrapping paper
As she scanned it, I could see the checkout woman trying not to snigger, so I said 'It's going to be a fun weekend' first
She replied 'so I can see' and I never, ever shopped there again!

LurkingHusband · 28/06/2016 17:26

They're better value on Amazon (plus you can check out reviews Smile) ...

Not embarrassing at all. (Although the last time I bought some in Boots, the Saturday assistant - a girl - did point out there was a 3 for 2 on the brand I chose. I did have a blush attack !).

Gileswithachainsaw · 28/06/2016 17:28

Will he go with you if you buy sanpro or is it just condoms.

Do people really care about this stuff. Staff are just selling it they don't care

DrSeuss · 28/06/2016 17:30

The (all girls) college I went to had a condom machine in the basement loo, next to the bar. The loo had a fan that was linked to the light and sounded like a 747. You could periodically hear this fan going off in the middle of the night. Since there were three loos on every floor, there really was only one reason to use the one in the basement! The fan could be heard all over the block.

GeezAJammyPeece · 28/06/2016 17:30

High five sparechange Grin

OH is a sweetie and has no probs buying tampons or towels for me (or condoms) but has what he fully accepts is a totally irrational discomfort at buying towels for DD HmmConfused

JanetRomano · 28/06/2016 17:33

When dd1 and her bf started having sex I took them to the store to buy condoms. They were embarrassed the first time but I told them if they are old enough to have sex they are old enough to buy condoms!

DoveBlue · 28/06/2016 17:37

I'm usually totally fine buying condoms and so is my DH but feel a bit awkward buying them at the moment as almost always pushing my young twins in a pram. People stop me to talk about twins then see I'm carrying condoms and calpol or similar in boots. I feel awkward but I'm aware I'm being silly (I still buy them though just as quick as possible). Your DH needs to get over it.

carabos · 28/06/2016 17:39

Embarrassment about anything is deeply unsexy. Embarrassment about sex ... well - bring me a real grown-up man please.

user1465823522 · 28/06/2016 17:40

that is a little odd - that said, my mum (almost 60) won#t buy sanitary pads if there is only a male cashier

BasinHaircut · 28/06/2016 17:44

polaroid and lurking in both of your stories I think I may have been that checkout girl!

WhooooAmI24601 · 28/06/2016 17:47

I buy condoms often with the weekly shop. It's delightful when the 10 year old holds them up and declares "we definitely need those, I don't want any more stupid brothers thank you very much" and the cashier falls off their chair trying not to laugh at him.

I've felt embarrassed when I was younger; at 34 I should hope buying condoms is less of a taboo than having fifty seven offspring because you were too mortified to buy protection.

EweAreHere · 28/06/2016 17:47

Honestly? I hope you don't have children with DH until he can get over himself. How on earth is he planning to talk to his children, girls and boys, about protecting themselves and acquiring condoms to do so? If he can't buy them, how will he imagine telling them it's just part of life, very important, and to get on with it?!

LurkingHusband · 28/06/2016 18:14

Anyone read "Porterhouse Blue" Grin .

AppleSetsSail · 28/06/2016 18:17

Wow, what a brazen lot you are. I'll admit that I would be a teensy bit embarassed.

BoopTheSnoot · 28/06/2016 18:19

Me and my boyfriend (now DH) used to find it embarrassing when we first got together. But then again, we were only 17 and 18 at the time Grin
Ten years on, neither of us are bothered by it. We just chuck them in with the rest of the shopping, nobody really cares what you're buying. Same as I don't get embarrassed about buying sanitary products. It's just part of life.

MyBreadIsEggy · 28/06/2016 18:19

I think it's a bit Blush if that's the only item you're buying.
But if your chucking them in with the rest of the shopping in the supermarket then I'm not bothered!

AppleSetsSail · 28/06/2016 18:22

I was in a queue behind a man at Boots on Saturday night who was in a suit, all cologned-up, jingling coins and keys in his pockets impatiently, waiting to buy condoms. I was kind of uh, uneasy? not sure what word to use - at the transparency of the situation.

doesntmatterwhoyouare · 28/06/2016 18:24

I don't think.I've ever brought condoms seem to always get them from the nurse with my pill or family planning etc. Use to be given literally handfuls at one place, which I guess said a lot a bout me in my early 20's Wink
Still get them from.the midwife and nurse now at 37 and in a long term relationship, god knows why.

user1465823522 · 28/06/2016 18:36

if you aren't mature enough to buy contraception you aren't mature enough to have sex.

Thingywhatsit · 28/06/2016 18:43

Just remembered (Donno how I forgot) but my dd is the result of me relying on ex dp to do the condom shopping. He bought a load online, I assumed they were off Amazon. But no the twat had gone and brought a job lot off eBay that were fake. He only realised when I was about 6 months gone and he saw something on watchdog (or some similar programme like fake Britain). He researched, and yup a load of fake bloody condoms. I could have killed him!!!!
