To expect my cleaner to manage more than this...

£10 /hr in two hours she's managed the following in an average sized 3 bed 1930a house: cleaned the bathroom, hoovered three beds, stairs and landing, swept and mopped the kitchen floor. I'd tidied in advance so it wasn't like she had to move anything. And we're not slatterns!!
She's been cleaning for us for a while but DH usually sorts. Now I'm on maternity leave......

Doesn't sound a lot.
In our 4 bed 3 storey our cleaner in 2 hours:-
Hoovers all carpets and washes hard floors
Dusts all rooms and bannisters
Cleans both bathrooms
Cleans kitchen and kitchen floor, including doing dishes
Hangs out any laundry in the machine, empties all bins, collects any mugs etc left about (although we are tidy)

She will also do inside windows or deep cleaning jobs ie wiping down cupboard fronts, but only on understanding something else won't get done

She is amazing

If the cleaning includes dusting a fireguard then I'm not surprised - ours is a fiddly dust magnet, I've tried all my different cloths, brushes, Hoover attachments and it still takes forever. Is it ironic I want to set it on fire!? Angry

I NEED to hoover this afternoon, will tell you how long it took me later. 3 bed house.

Artandco · 28/06/2016 13:31

Sounds fine.

To me it's a good hour/ hour and half to hoover a whole 3 bed house properly ( stairs/ furniture pulled out etc). About 30 mins to clean bathroom properly ie all tiles/ floor/ shower blah blah

We have a cleaner. She comes 6 hrs a week. We only have a one bed flat! She's wonderful.

CalmItKermitt · 28/06/2016 13:35

That's pretty slow. I used to be a cleaner and I managed far more than that, and properly. And I only charged £8 an hour! Maybe I should go back to it!

EarthboundMisfit · 28/06/2016 13:40

I don't have a cleaner but it does seem slow. I'd expect dusting, window interiors and an extra like skirting boards done in that time. Mind you, the only time I've cleaned for pay was for a relative, and that was four hours a week to keep a five-bed Victorian house with four floors, 2 fireplaces, 3 bathrooms and seemingly acres of original tiles in pristine condition. I was knackered every week!

I have a cleaner. I pay her £30, that's 2.5 hours cleaning. We have a large 4 bed detached house and 4 bathrooms. in that time, she cleans every bathroom, dusts and wipes every single surface, all my skirting boards, light switches (chrome), door frames, picture frames, kitchen surfaces, the whole kit and caboodle. I very rarely find anything at all to pick her up on.

I love her more than DH Smile

So, yes, I think your cleaner needs to do more.

Lweji · 28/06/2016 13:55

Hoovering depends very much on the type of floor.

Laminate/wooden/tile floors, IME, are faster than rugs and carpets.

pamplem0usse · 29/06/2016 18:08

To those who asked why I didn't do it myself: I had a c section three weeks ago; I also have a three year old with quite specific medical needs and a five year old... And before my DH and I both worked full time.
It's not particularly thorough, the v small bathroom is still quite dusty / has soap marks on the tiles. She didn't get through what I'd asked her to do, no, and was hovering as if in expectation id tell her not to bother with the kitchen floor ten minutes before the two hours were up. The bathroom alone took her 1.5 hours ish!

I used to have a cleaner, she would get through kitchen (surfaces, doors, table wiped) all hoovering, mopping kitchen and lounge, bathroom and all window sills. She used to run out of jobs. I am now a cleaner, I worked two hours today and did a similar amount but not as enthusiastically.

Lweji · 29/06/2016 19:15

You really didn't have to explain yourself at all.

It doesn't sound she's doing such a great job, then.

Did she do it before?
