To expect my cleaner to manage more than this...

pamplem0usse · 28/06/2016 10:57

£10 /hr in two hours she's managed the following in an average sized 3 bed 1930a house: cleaned the bathroom, hoovered three beds, stairs and landing, swept and mopped the kitchen floor. I'd tidied in advance so it wasn't like she had to move anything. And we're not slatterns!!
She's been cleaning for us for a while but DH usually sorts. Now I'm on maternity leave......

Think that sounds about right. It takes my team of 2 cleaners 3 hours to do my house which is bigger but not a mansion or anything.

Bit Hmm at people saying to op she should do it herself. Why should she if she can afford a cleaner and wants one...

alltouchedout · 28/06/2016 11:36

Blimey, how filthy were your floors and bathroom?

Lweji · 28/06/2016 11:37

It's fine to be on maternity leave and have a cleaner. FFS.

Get whatever help you want or need.

Salene · 28/06/2016 11:37

Ours comes for 3 hours to do 5 bed house and she cleans

4 bathrooms and washes there floors ,

hoovers living room , kitchen , utility, sun room then washes all them floors as wooden

Cleans and polishes two sinks , kitchen and utility

Polishes glass table

Hoovers stairs and 4 bedrooms

Makes 1 bed.

Wipes down kitchen work tops and cleans cooker.

In fact two cleaners come and do 1.5 hours each so I pay 3 hours total

They do a very good job in that time

trafalgargal · 28/06/2016 11:38

So what was she doing differently before you were on ML? (Obviously place might be a little grub bier with someone home all day rather than empty unless you clean yourself on other days) Sounds like you're a bit bored.

Salene · 28/06/2016 11:38

Should of said I pay £12 ph and I also on Mat leave looking after a toddler then come fortnightly

ThereIsIron · 28/06/2016 11:40

Why is she hoovering beds?

Lweji · 28/06/2016 11:42

I expect it's short for bedrooms, although if you have dust mites allergies, it is a good idea to hoover the mattresses.

user1465823522 · 28/06/2016 11:45

so you are at home all day and still hire a cleaner and then look over her shoulder all morning?

hmmmmmmm,.

Lweji · 28/06/2016 11:46

Maternity leave is to take care of babies, not clean. Lay off with your judgment on new mothers.

~Maternity leave is to take care of babies, not clean. Lay off with your judgment on new mothers.

lay off with your judgement of cleaners.

Lweji · 28/06/2016 11:54

Nobody is judging cleaners here.

OP is asking a fair question. One that most bosses probably constantly ask themselves about people who work for them, and one that we constantly make when hiring services: is it worth what I'm paying?

MyCatIsTryingToKillMe · 28/06/2016 11:57

I think that's slow. I have a cleaner for 2 hours a week and she does bathroom (but not inside shower), hoovers 3 bedrooms, stairs and landing, hall, living room and playroom and then sweeps and mops kitchen, utility and downstairs loo plus worktops and the actual loo and basin in the same time! I tidy up before she comes and get things out for her so she doesn't have to waste time with that stuff and we generally keep things relatively clean during the week. We usually have enough time for a chat and cuppa too!

ChicRock · 28/06/2016 11:59

I think you probably need to do 2 hours yourself and see how much you get done. It sounds ok to me.

It takes me probably at least 15-20 minutes to hoover our hall, stairs and landing properly (that includes hoovering the skirting boards and using the nozzle to get right along the edges and into corners).

Crusoe · 28/06/2016 12:00

How do you Hoover a bed?

ChicRock · 28/06/2016 12:01

I vac our beds once a week. Sheets off, furniture attachment on the Hoover and vac the mattress.

user1465823522 · 28/06/2016 12:05

guys I;'m not bashing cleaners - we have one and honest to God our house would be a pigsty without her - she is fucking amazing - she was the one who showed me to to unclog the washing machine (long story) and while i do clean during the week she picks up where i left off. I have, personally, seen days where i sat for 3 hours looking at a dirty sink

SaveSomeSpendSome · 28/06/2016 12:06

I ve had a cleaner for about 4.5 years.

Im at home all day with one 3 year old who goes to nursery 2 full days a week.

I also have a window cleaner and gardener!

Shoot me now!

But on a serious note i pay £10 per hour and have 3 hours a week. She does all cleaning except washing and ironing and changing beds (i do those)

So she does..

All dusting
Hoovers everywhere including under beds, on top of wardrobes and inside the bottom of wardrobes
All windows inside
All skirting boards
Sofa and tv units pulled out weekly
Bathroom cleaned plus downstairs toilet
Floors mopped
Kitchen all wiped down
Empties bins

I do hoover and mop daily and wipe kitchen down several times a day.

Also my house is clutter free.

It may sound a lot what she does but because its all done weekly each task doesnt take as long as it would if it wasnt done weekly

BeckyMcDonald · 28/06/2016 12:08

Lol at all the people jealous of OP's cleaner. If I could afford it I'd definitely have a cleaner while on mat leave. Why wouldn't I pay someone to do the shitty jobs that I don't want to do if I had the cash?

BeckyMcDonald · 28/06/2016 12:10

SaveSome'your cleaner sounds like a dream.

SaveSomeSpendSome · 28/06/2016 12:17

Becky

She is very good

Nivea101 · 28/06/2016 12:17

A cleaner and a gardener!! swoons

SaveSomeSpendSome · 28/06/2016 12:18

And i also have a car valeter coming to the house

SquidgeyMidgey · 28/06/2016 12:19

I do our whole 3 bed house in a little under 3 hours- clean & mop 2 bathrooms, dust & hoover whole house, wipe down kitchen & mop, and strip the beds for washing. I have a set free block of time one day a week to get it done. Do cleaners go quite slowly then, I would be annoyed if that's all she did.

SquidgeyMidgey · 28/06/2016 12:23

SaveSome, I'm very envious (in a nice way). I hate doing the windows, it would take me hours just to do them.
