Looking for inspiration, somebody inspire me as I'm stuck in a rut of Bolognese and pizza (all they seem to want to eat lately!
What's your failsafe, everybody likes, dinner recipe?

OP posts:
EveOnline2016 · 26/06/2016 15:25

I know it's not heathy but egg and chips.

Lynnm63 · 26/06/2016 15:25

Lime, garlic and ginger marinated chicken either with couscous or in a wrap or baguette and salad.
All day breakfast
Gammon, pineapple and jacket potato
Chicken fajitas, quesadilla either chicken or ham and cheese with salad

dementedma · 26/06/2016 15:25

Lots of the above. Will try the spinach and gnocchi one.
Home made pizzas using flat breads or wraps, top with pasta sauce, wilted spinach, parma ham, crack and egg in the middle and grated cheese on top. In the oven for a few minutes to set the egg.

WeirdAndPissedOff · 26/06/2016 15:26

Pasta bake - either chicken and bacon or tune.
Wraps - cook a couple of breaded chicken/southern fried chicken, slice and put on a plate, with wraps, salad, cheese etc and let the kids make their own.
Takes more effort to clear up than to make! Grin

Naan bread pizzas. I always buy reduced naans and keep them in the freezer for emergency quick meals. Top with passata, cheese and toppings such as sweetcorn, ham, peppers etc. Pop in the oven for 10 minutes and serve with veg sticks. Cheap, quick, easy and delicious.

Mouikey · 26/06/2016 15:34

I'm going to try some of these - thanks x

Binkermum29 · 26/06/2016 15:35

My mum's chicken casserole. Sauté floured chicken pieces ( thighs are best ) in a little oil, add 2 tins condensed mushroom soup, chopped carrots and quartered mushrooms. Sometimes baby new potatoes. Salt and pepper. Medium oven for at least 2 hours. It's very forgiving. Serve with pasta, mash or new potatoes. Very simple but an absolute winner.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 26/06/2016 15:40

I love egg and chips, I don't consider it unhealthy at all.

CremeEggThief · 26/06/2016 15:46

I love city too, but I wouldn't consider it that quick a meal. 10 minutes to pre-heat the oven and at least 20 minutes for the oven chips to cook.

OvO · 26/06/2016 15:50

Vietnamese Caramelised Pork Bowls.

I've cooked a lot of recipes from this website and they have all been delicious. This one is a favourite as its so quick, good for the days when I'm fed up having to feed them again. I use the lazy (jar) versions for the garlic, ginger and chilli.

I change what I serve it with so it doesn't get boring.

Wdigin2this · 26/06/2016 15:50

Get a slow cooker, chuck meat, veg and stock in it, switch it on in the morning...hey presto healthy meal at dinner time!

CremeEggThief · 26/06/2016 15:50

It not city!

thebestfurchinchilla · 26/06/2016 15:54

Use a roasting bag, put in chicken with paprika, herbs, garlic ,oil etc. Roast in oven. Meanwhile make cos cos and a salad. Kitchen time is about 15 mins. Moan free dinner in this house.

thebestfurchinchilla · 26/06/2016 15:54

cous cous!

CancelTheCheque · 26/06/2016 15:56

We've also just got into ramen noodle soup. Tesco do a ramen base that's lovely or you can use your own broth/soup base. Add noodles, cooked meat (typically chicken or pork), a handful of spinach, spring onion and a boiled egg.

thebestfurchinchilla · 26/06/2016 15:56

Oh but my fave super quick for my children was always what they called 'breakfast dinner' . Basically a poached or fried egg, beans, a sausage and toast.

honeylulu · 26/06/2016 16:08

Chorizo and scallops, quick fried then sloshed with a bit of lemon juice. 2 cans chickpeas and some rocket wilted in another pan with dash of sherry and pinch of cumin.I can do this in less than 15 mins and both kids love it.
It's also (smaller portion) my go-to dinner party starter if I can't think if anything else.
Gotta like chickpeas though!
Nigella express recipe.

Penfold007 · 26/06/2016 16:13

I chop a pile of veg into roughly the same size (onions, celery, courgette, aubergine, mushrooms, tomatoes etc) thrown them into roasting pan, season and drizzle a tiny bit of olive oil on and mix around. Add some chicken thighs on top and roast until cooked. Serve with couscous. Only one pan to wash up and ready in around 45 mins.

magimedi · 26/06/2016 16:15

This has taken me longer to type (nearly) than it does to make:

I've got a nice fish one.

Quantities are for two:

Chop an onion & clove of garlic & fry up with chopped chorizo. Add about half a pint of water & a couple of desert spoons of tomato puree & a can of drained & rinsed cannelli beans. Let it simmer gently (covered) for 20 mins or so to let all the flavours mingle. Taste & season as you like. Then add a couple of fillets (chopped if you want) of white fish & cook until fish is done. (About 3 mins). Add a squeeze of lemon. Some chopped parsely on top looks good.

You may need to add some more water before the fish.

It's one of those dishes that is more than the sum of its parts - I often use frozen fish steaks so it's an easy store cupboard dish.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/06/2016 16:16

Very quick, easy and popular standby in this house was a tin of tuna, drained and flaked, stirred into a warmed up tin of condensed (not diluted) mushroom soup. This was all then mixed with freshly cooked pasta shells or penne, and served with peas. Might sound weird but it's a very tasty mix - the kids loved it - and I still make it now and then.

elfycat · 26/06/2016 16:30

Easy Peasy Pasta - from the TV program 'Bing' I hate Bing but never mind

Boil pasta shapes, add cooked sliced carrot, and peas. It's something they ask for, and like in the program you have to give them a spoon to separate the ingredients or to mix them. I usually stir in a spoon of olive oil.

I prefer to do anything something else, but they like it. They have a school dinner so I can get away with it as an evening meal (or when I'm out of time/ingredients/will to live) and it's good for when none of us want to eat because of the latest virus. The kids will try it because of the game.

Seior · 26/06/2016 16:31

Egg, oven chips and salad.
Chicken breasts in roasting bag with spices, or cheat with one of those Maggi ones. Slice and serve with wraps, cheese and salad.
Omelette or frittata and salad. My children love what they call pizza omelette, just before it's time to fold it in half spread tomato pesto or pizza topping, sprinkle with cheese.
Meatball subs and salad. Or any other hot sandwich, put chicken in marinade when preparing previous nights dinner. Fry, grill or oven and serve in bun and salad.
Chicken, egg, soba noodle soup thing. It's a good way to use up leftover roast chcicken and you can make it very filling.

yorkshapudding · 26/06/2016 16:33

A favourite in our house at the moment is pasta with Philadelphia cream cheese, peas, chopped fresh mint and either ham or bacon. Dead quick and easy and seems to go down well with kids.

Also fajitas, naan bread pizzas (with Passata, mozzarella, peppers and courgette), tomato and spinach pasta bake, jacket potato with cheese, reduced salt baked beans and a side salad.

SuburbanRhonda · 26/06/2016 16:38

eve

Egg and chips not healthy?

You take that right back!

Seior · 26/06/2016 16:38

Creamy chicken, it can be used with potatoes, pasta or rice.

Fry chicken pieces, add mushrooms, reduce a glass of wine if you like, add dollops of herb and garlic cream cheese and bit of stock for right consistency. Add handful of frozen peas or swetcorn. It's ready when they're warmed through.

It can be varied to taste, I often put a dried mushroom in, extra garlic and finish with fresh parsley. I keep the mushroms in large pieces because my daughter doesn't like thm and they're easy to fish out.
