To wonder where the Queen is at this time of crisis

The political system in the UK seems to be in utter chaos.

Surely this is a time for the Queen to step up and 'steady the ship'.

We're.alawaya told that she is a constant through times of crisis and I really think as a nation we could do with some calming words from our head of.state.

Doesn't have to be political but something surely??

But she isn't constitutionally neutral, and this is a constitutional question.

Probably drinking gin and applying for a German passport

In indyref1 her leaked view was that the UK should remain. She will v probs have the same view over us shunting ourselves into darker times and she loses the UK.

BillSykesDog · 26/06/2016 13:36

I don't see how an appeal for calm and civility from the Queen during this crisis could be construed as giving a political opinion.

It would be construed as saying that there was a crisis, when actually not liking the fact you've lost does not a crisis make. It would be completely partisan because it would be in support of the 'Oh, teh sky is falling' hysteria of Remain. So she can't do it.

Where I am life is carrying on utterly as normal. There is no unrest, no fighting on the streets. I don't see why the Queen would need to appeal for calm when the only problem seems to be the ubiquitous crowd of lefties in London having the predictable tantrum protest they have every time they don't get their own way, and the same people having a strop on social media.

The vast majority of Remainers are being stoic, no need for the Queen to play to a tiny gallery of nutters who are trying to pretend anarchy has broken out because it suits their own political ends.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/06/2016 13:55

The queen has to remain above politics so to make a comment would be inappropriate.

FledglingFridge · 26/06/2016 13:55

She's a bloody tourist attraction. Big Ben will comment before she does.

Livingtothefull · 26/06/2016 13:59

For a number of reasons stated by a poster above, this IS a crisis.

cosmicquiteprobably · 26/06/2016 14:01

Can Victoria Wood not write a jaunty ditty about it?

Lulu1083 · 26/06/2016 14:03

cosmic that's revolting

highlandcoo · 26/06/2016 14:03

cosmic Victoria Wood died recently sadly Sad

eyebrowse · 26/06/2016 14:04

I don't think the queen could say anything - this is a terrible crisis

Bogoffdailymail · 26/06/2016 14:15

The leave camp apparently voted to ensure that an unelected elite would no longer hold too much power over us.
In that spirit I think it's best she keeps schtum

DinosaursRoar · 26/06/2016 14:40

To be honest, it's not really that much of a crisis in the grand scheme of things, the PM has resigned, saying he'll stay in the job until October for a smooth handover - 10 Downing street isn't empty right now. The opposition has had a few shadow cabinet members have walked out, but that's not a national crisis, they aren't in power so it doesn't really matter.

The country has been asked if they wanted to leave the EU, and while I think it's the wrong choice, more said they wanted to leave than stay. Nothing has happened yet on that, it's not legally binding, there's no rush (even though the EU seems to want us to rush) to decide what to do with that, there may well need to be a discussion in HofC about it, we might well wait until the next PM is in place before doing anything about the vote.

If the Queen stuck her nose in it now, it will show the world it is a crisis, whereas right now, it's a bit of a mess, but not of the "can't be sorted out" type.

There's no rush, no need for the level of drama. While rolling news coverage seems to have conditioned us to expect things to keep moving forward and stuff has to happen ASAP, it's kind of fine to do nowt for a few months until we work out what the best thing to actually do is.

Lilaclily · 26/06/2016 14:54

Can't wait for the Xmas speech Grin

People are pulling out of house selling chains left right & centre

My house sale fell through 9am Friday Sad

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/06/2016 14:56

Wondering what she's going to wear when she dissolves parliament and thinking "I'm too old for this shit".

imother · 26/06/2016 15:00

Where are all the @Keep Calm and Eat Cake' cushions when you need them?

BertrandRussell · 26/06/2016 15:04

I think that there should be a new sort of government- the country should be led by Mary Berry, David Attenborough, Adele and Baldrick. I think they cover everything between them.

Allofaflumble · 26/06/2016 15:04

So I have googled people pulling out of house sales and there is nothing! Just because it happened to you lilaclilly doesn't mean its happening left right and centre. This only happened Friday!! Talk about dramatic. Hmm

MargotLovedTom · 26/06/2016 15:16

I don't care what she has to say about it, even if she did pass comment. I just wish the referendum could've been about becoming a republic, and not EU membership.

DinosaursRoar · 26/06/2016 15:17

And if people are pulling out of house sales, it might feel pretty shit if it's happening to you, but house prices have crashed before and she didn't feel the need to get involved.

Bulletpr00f · 26/06/2016 15:17

Big Ben has commented actually FledglingFridge. Smile
The big Ben clock twitter account has been around since 2009 and has only ever tweeted bongs every hour. On Friday it tweeted sad day for our country.

InShockReally · 26/06/2016 15:18

Again it's anecdotal but it's happened to two people in separate areas on my FB newsfeed alla; both explicitly told it was because of Brexit.

Hopefully this sort of stuff will settle fast, and especially for them I hope the buyers change their minds - but it's real and happening. That's what economic uncertainty does.

However we won't have stats online yet because it's not been long enough for people to pull them together, check, or publish them.

(On that note, is there a national database from estate agents or something that would pull that together? Or would that be a government thing?)

BillSykesDog · 26/06/2016 15:31

Said like a true Remainer. When working class people up North complain their wages have turned to shit, they're struggling to keep a roof over their heads or put food on the table and their kids can't get jobs or if they do them they're dead ends with no training; the response is put up, shut up and listen to your betters.

But as soon as a house sale falls through 'Where is the Queen? She must comment, I'm so traumatised, I'd already picked out curtains'.
