Norway and a few others will hopefully take the plunge

Hopefully some of the other main contributors of the EU will now have their own referendum.

There are a lot of disillusioned people in Europe.
People who like us, didn't expect the EU to get so big, and have to support so many poorer recent members.

Hopefully the whole flawed sorry mess will now collapse.

Is this post a joke? I do hope so.

vichill · 24/06/2016 09:33

didn't churchill say the best case against democracy is a 5 min conversation with the avarage voter? ffs

Holowiwi · 24/06/2016 09:34

I despair......

And people like this vote we are so fucked.

DoinItFine · 24/06/2016 09:36

In a representative democracy, such as we have, you only get to make the big decisions if you can convince people to vote for you.

Plebiscites are a terrible idea because people use them a protest votes against the incumbent government, as seen with Brexit.

People who are pissed ofc with failing public services, low pay, financial insecurity have every reason to be pissed off.

And no reason at all to vote for Tory Brexit.

People have voted massively against their own interests to give the government a bloody nose.

It's a ridiculous situation.

RandyMagnum · 24/06/2016 09:38

If Norway leaves the EU, surely China will follow them and leave as well.

This is why referendums are not the way for a nation to decide important questions - because a high proportion of that electorate are completely ignorant as to the issues. Throughout the campaign Norway has been held up by the LEAVE campaign as a good example of a Euro country that can succeed outside the EU. So if a pro-leaver fails to even pick up that point then it raises the question as to their ability to appraise themselves of any other pertinent facts.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 24/06/2016 09:42

Is this the level of understanding of leave voters? Norway isn't in the EU.

AnnieNoMouse · 24/06/2016 09:44

Yeah, let's get back to the good old days in the first half of the 20th century when there was no union and we had all those successful and harmonious European countries living and prospering together.
Oh wait ...

t4gnut · 24/06/2016 09:44

Switzerland aren't in either and they seem to be doing ok.

Switzerland pay to access the EU market and follow all the EU rules - including immigration - without a say in setting them. So if we were to do the same we'd pay as we do now for less to follow same rules with no money back. Brexit genius.

With bells on.
The OP probably thinks Scandinavia is a country.

Kidnapped · 24/06/2016 09:45

I've heard that Canada is also thinking about it.

And Burkina Faso.

More news as I get it.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 24/06/2016 09:46

Oh and comparing anywhere in Europe with Switzerland displays a vast ignorance of Switzerland

roundtable · 24/06/2016 09:48
Shock
TheStoic · 24/06/2016 09:48

Australia is going to take the UK's place. Apparently it's a 'one out, one in' policy.

TheNotoriousPMT · 24/06/2016 09:48

You want other countries to join in with what we're doing?

Er...

DoinItFine · 24/06/2016 09:49

Well that makes sense, TheStoic, they've passed the Eurovision tests.

TheStoic · 24/06/2016 09:51

That was our audition.

And Cameron has just resigned, is that correct??

Shock I dont even know how to respond to this OP.

LunaLoveg00d · 24/06/2016 09:54

Norway is in the EEA but not the EU. Like Iceland, Liechtenstein and sort of like Switzerland.

Is this the same person who posted the hysterical "you know it won't count if you vote in pencil, don't you??" thread yesterday

thedancingbear · 24/06/2016 09:54

I think people are jumping all over the OP unfairly tbh. It's fairly clear she's taking the piss, and you've all fallen for it!

gingerboy1912 · 24/06/2016 09:55

Norway isn't in the Eu op

gingerboy1912 · 24/06/2016 09:56

Oh okay it was a joke. Well played op. A brave joke indeed seeing as how twitchy MN is this morning Smile

If there's a knock-on effect and other countries exit, I predict civil unrest and potential war in Europe within the next decade, as all the far right factions gain power.
