I am counting tonight, and whilst I get paid more the long the count goes on, it is so annoying when people have folded their votes into 4 or 8 or made a swan out of it before posting it in the ballot box.

Please please, just a simple fold in half - one crease- there is absolutely no need to do any more folds than this!!!

roses all counts have observers. They watch the opening of ballot boxes, the verifying and counting. They can query a vote if they think the paper isn't clear and this will be adjudicated by the either the assistant returning officer and returning officer. All queried votes are also shown to the electoral agents.

Ann and AndyPandy you should contact your local council's electoral services dept and get your name on a list.

Solidarity with you burn I will be up overnight counting as well. Wondering if I can get a sneaky nap in this afternoon after DS helpfully work me at 6am otherwise I'm looking at being up 24 hours.

KatsutheClockworkOctopus · 23/06/2016 10:10

Mine didn't fit without the extra fold. Feeling quite guilty now thoughSmile

GrimmauldPlace · 23/06/2016 10:11

Ours is in a school hall. Two tables as you walk in on each side with 2 helpers each. There's usually a queue to each of the tables. The ballot boxes are on the same tables as you collect the paper. Then a row of booths to vote. You then have to walk back and post it in front of the queue. Then you walk outside and have people from different parties asking for your name and address and how you voted.

SoupDragon · 23/06/2016 10:15

I am aiming for this swan.

The people outside asking you how you voted are 'tellers'. In a normal election, they will represent different parties, and are checking to see if all of the party faithful have voted. Those who haven't may get a knock on their door at some point in the day to encourage them to go and vote. Not sure how the telling will work today for a referendum, though.

One more thing - you don't have to give your information to a teller if you choose not to.

PortiaCastis · 23/06/2016 10:16

Nice swan soup

LaundryFairy · 23/06/2016 10:16
  • I should have said they ask you for your voter number, NOT how you voted!
girlinacoma · 23/06/2016 10:18

Oh bloody hell OP.

Here I was ready to present you with one of these ..... Grin

SoupDragon · 23/06/2016 10:18

Thank you - I've been practising for months I absolutely did not just google complicated origami

BeautyQueenFromMars · 23/06/2016 10:18

I tore mine into tiny strips and screwed them all up into a tight little ball. Was a bit of struggle getting it into the box, but I persevered. Put a cross in each box, too.

LittleLionMansMummy · 23/06/2016 10:21

Swans are so passé. I'm aiming for a giraffe.

AnnPerkins · 23/06/2016 10:22

Thanks pixieg1rl. I'm genuinely interested so will contact my council.

MrsFizzy A queue?! There has never been a queue when I've been to vote. Where I live now the staff usually say we're the first people they've seen in hours.

PortiaCastis · 23/06/2016 10:23

Of course not soup Grin

scallopsrgreat · 23/06/2016 10:25

I folded once Halo

Tiggeryoubastard · 23/06/2016 10:28

I was going to fold mine into this

Tiggeryoubastard · 23/06/2016 10:29

But then I thought that this would be more appropriate for my vote so did this instead (was a bugger to get into the slot).

horizontilting · 23/06/2016 10:30

Are doves symbolic of the EU? Could I do a dove? Save you opening the papers at all, OP, really, if we manage to represent our choice in origami.

horizontilting · 23/06/2016 10:31

See, exactly like Tigger just did. Render your opinion in craft.

LittleLionMansMummy · 23/06/2016 10:33

Render my opinion in origami... hmmm - does anyone have any instructions for this?

AIBU to ask you to please ONLY fold your voting paper in half!
Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/06/2016 10:34

You mean we can't fold it several times and cut little bits out of the sides to make one of those pretty "snowflakes" when it's opened again?

Bugger ...

SoupDragon · 23/06/2016 10:34

I thought about this but decided it was too ambiguous.

LittleLionMansMummy · 23/06/2016 10:40

Some great choices if you Google 'origami penis' as a feminist representation of politics. Just saying.

Toooldtobearsed · 23/06/2016 10:40

Wish i had been more original!

Just vited and we HAD to fold and fold again to get it in the ballot box. And we were told to do that, so curse the whatever you call people who hand out the ballot papers, not the voters😊

Wish i had done a swan now though........

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 23/06/2016 10:40

I did mine in a fortune teller complete with fortunes (on the back so as not to spoil it).

I made it referendum-y. Under the flaps it has things like
"We're all doomed"
"Everything carries on as before"
"Financial crash is imminent"
"Osborne gets his soul back"
"Bananas!!! EU regulation ones"

I think it will be appreciated.

LostSoreConfused · 23/06/2016 10:43

I've just been to vote and the woman handed me the card double folded.
