I am counting tonight, and whilst I get paid more the long the count goes on, it is so annoying when people have folded their votes into 4 or 8 or made a swan out of it before posting it in the ballot box.

Please please, just a simple fold in half - one crease- there is absolutely no need to do any more folds than this!!!

Never thought of it, my origami skills stop at paper hat and boat though.

PurpleRainDiamondsandPearls · 23/06/2016 09:28

I never understood why people folded at all to be honest.

JennyOnAPlate · 23/06/2016 09:29

The man who gave me mine pre folded it in half too!

I don't think many people in my area will bother to vote to be honest so maybe I could have made an origami animal.

At my polling station I was told to fold it in half, one fold only. Which I did cos I'm a good girl, me Grin.

GrimmauldPlace · 23/06/2016 09:32

When I last voted for the London Mayor I was told I wasn't allowed to fold it. So I had to walk back to the table where the boxes were and try to get it in there with the people queuing trying to have a good nose at who I'd voted for. I like to fold it once.

Minecraftmadness · 23/06/2016 09:36

We were specifically asked to fold ours twice by the people in the polling station this morning.

AdoraBell · 23/06/2016 09:36

Folding it is just to stop nosy buggers looking at your vote while you put it in the box. You don't have to fold it, but because we have the right to a confidential vote the advice is to do so to stop aforementioned nosy buggers getting their satisfaction having an excuse to cat's bum face at you in the polling station.

I will try my best OP, depends on the slots at my local polling station.

InsufficientlyCaffeinated · 23/06/2016 09:37

The people at the polling box told me to fold it twice because it doesn't fit easily in the slot otherwise

blitheringbuzzards1234 · 23/06/2016 09:38

Mine was pre-folded too Hello sunshine, so being an obedient type I put it into the box like that. I assume that some people fold it again because they think it'll be extra secret that way.

toomuchtooold · 23/06/2016 09:43

I postal voted. So no fold, but you'll have to open the envelope Sad

ThomasRichard · 23/06/2016 09:45

I folded once this morning. I would love to learn how to do an origami swan vote though.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 23/06/2016 09:47

Dammit I was going to do a shoe. I've been practicing origami-ing everything for weeks.

The lady who watches over voting at my station runs a tight ship, I reckon she'd make you do it again if you did above the required amount of folds.

2016Hopeful · 23/06/2016 09:51

Mine was pre-folded in half! It didn't enter my head that I could also make shapes out of it!

sw15mum · 23/06/2016 09:53

Just folded twice- sorry! Wouldn't have fitted otherwise...

ThoraGruntwhistle · 23/06/2016 09:55

Mine was pre folded in half too, so I went with that Smile

AnthonyPandy · 23/06/2016 09:57

How do you get a job doing the counting and what is the pay?

AnnPerkins · 23/06/2016 09:58

Gotcha. Will fold just once.

I would love to help with the counting. (Frustrated ex-supermarket checkout manager.) How can I get involved in that?

AnnPerkins · 23/06/2016 09:59

xposted with AnthonyPandy.

I'll do it for unlimited cups of tea free.

Goingtobeawesome · 23/06/2016 10:01

I fold in half for privacy which I know is pointless as they have a number on it which corresponds to my name Hmm

LaundryFairy · 23/06/2016 10:01

I've worked as a polling clerk and we were taught to pre-fold the ballot papers once, then open them up before handing them to the voter. As the OP said, multiple folds slows the count down. Some still chose to fold it more times though.

RosesareSublime · 23/06/2016 10:02

burn

silly question but how do we trust the vote counters?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 23/06/2016 10:04

Out of interest, how many other people are there in your polling stations to possibly see your voting paper?

We vote in a portaloo portakabin and there's only ever one person at a time in there! There are two officials/helpers/clerks but I shouldn't imagine they're interested in seeing everyone's paper are they? It would get a bit boring by about 7.30am.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/06/2016 10:07

Well, if we don't trust them, we're absolutely stuffed. I suppose we trust them because if they were discovered falsifying votes or throwing any away it would be instant dismissal. But in the last analysis most people in the public sector at some level have a strong belief in the value of what they're doing, so will do the right thing.

PortiaCastis · 23/06/2016 10:09

Do you tell people what to do at work. I'll fold my vote as I want and because of this will do some origami with it after all it is my vote not yours
